"I kind of do." Nika grinned a bit. "I wouldn't mind seeing him again. But the rogues are all taken care of now, so who knows?"
"Could always go looking for him," Cassie teased. "I mean, you seem into him, moreso than anyone I've seen you like in a long time."
Nika snorted. "I could, but I don't know. I'll think about it for a bit." She shrugged. "'Parently he used to be a real ladykiller back in the day. Remember the exhibit? And the documentaries? And the history textbooks?"
"I remember," Cassie said, nodding. She grinned. "Means he knows what he's doing."
Nika laughed at that. "Well, I'll think about it. For now, though, I think I just want a bath."
"Go for it," Cassie said, nodding. "I'll call Jack and let him know the job is done."
"Awesome, thanks." Nika headed upstairs for the master bathroom so she could go soak for a while.
"No problem." With that, Cassie pulled out her phone to call Jack. Hey, it was her turn to talk to their brother, anyways.
"What's up, sis?" Jack asked as he picked up the phone. "Everything good?"
"Hello, little brother," Cassie replied, settling on the couch. "Seems like everything's fine. Nika just finished up the rogues job."
"Oh good." Jack marked them off his list. "Need to arrange a pick-up for them or has she got them stashed somewhere?"
Cassie sighed.
"The Avengers got to them, apparently," she said. "Nika was complaining about the pretty one." |
"Which one?" Jack asked reflexively, because damn if they weren't all kind of pretty, really. "Do we need to bail her out?"
"I'm betting the one with the dark hair and the arm," Cassie said. "He's kind of her type. And no, she's home now, it's all good."
"Okay, good." Jack paused. "Wait, hold up, are you telling me she has the hots for the Winter Soldier? I so need to get Dad in on this."
Cassie snickered.
"She seems kind of distracted by him, yeah," she said. "Maybe don't go shouting it from the mythological rooftops just yet, though, you don't want her coming after you." |
"Oh please, I know how to keep quiet about things. This is just too good, though. I have to keep an eye on this." Jack grinned.
"Please, your dad's the god of gossips, I don't know who you think you're fooling," Cassie retorted teasingly. "Just hope that Nika doesn't catch wind of your rumor-mongering."
"Okay, I'll wait until after she goes on a date with him to tell Dad," Jack said with a grin, because he had a good feeling that was going to be a Thing.
Cassie snorted.
"Good luck," she said. "You know Nika's practically allergic to dates." |
"Well, okay, after she brings him home in some capacity or another," Jack amended. "That is much more likely to happen."
"Probably," Cassie agreed. "That's far more likely. I've got a better feeling about that one happening."
"Not surprised. Let me know what ends up happening, I'm really kind of curious about this." Jack grinned.
"I will," Cassie replied, grinning. "Promise." She lapsed into momentary silence. "So out of curiosity, which of the Avengers are you in contact with? Since you never seem surprised when we run into them."
"Come on, Cass, you know I can't just tell you," Jack said with a huff. "But I won't disagree if you guess right."
