"It's still so tiny," Maya marveled, both of her hands on her belly. Her eyes prickled with tears. "It's so tiny and perfect."

Colbie smiled a little. "And yours," she murmured. Because now she was definitely going to make sure nothing happened to the baby or Maya.

"And mine," Maya echoed, nodding. She sniffled a bit and wiped her eyes. She leaned over so she could watch the feed some more. "It's moving around so much. Why can't I feel it yet? Is it still too small?"

"Yes," Bruce answered. "It's too small yet for you to feel, but you'll start feeling the movement soon."

Maya nodded and just kept watching the feed. It was incredible, being able to see the little one, and she couldn't quite bring herself to set the tablet aside yet.

Colbie watched with her part of the time, spending the rest of the time looking around. Bruce wandered off to give them some privacy and to start running the blood tests.

Maya finally reluctantly put the tablet down.

"I'm not going to let anyone take this child from me," she said quietly. She wrapped one arm around her middle protectively.

Colbie nodded, accepting new mission parameters. "Agreed," she murmured.

Steve finally made his way with Bucky back up to the area where the girls and Bruce were. He looked from the girls to Bruce to Bucky and shrugged a bit. He never claimed to be good with dames.

Maya noticed him and shrank back just slightly. She still wasn't sure how he would react to her condition, and she didn't want to risk anything.

Bucky just gave Steve a bit of a wounded look. Really, Steve was going to make him deal with this? With a sigh, he stepped forward.

"Colbie? Maya? How was it?" he asked.

"Everything is within normal parameters," Colbie replied, and then shook herself a bit with a little grimace. "Healthy," she corrected herself.

Steve nodded. "Good. And the little one?" He nodded at Maya.

Maya looked at him warily for a moment before nodding once.

"Healthy as well," she said. She was also a little surprised; she hadn't expected him to show any concern for her health or the child's, since he wasn't the handler.

"Good," Bucky said. He looked at them both. "You know you're allowed to wander the living floors. You aren't being confined to your rooms at all."

Colbie blinked, because she thought they were being confined. But she nodded slowly to show she'd heard.

"You're both free to go," Bruce added to the girls. "The blood work will take a little while, you don't need to hang around for it."

Maya looked at Colbie, silently asking for direction.

Colbie was quiet for a moment before she nodded and nudged Maya upright. She nodded quickly to Bucky and Steve before heading back to their rooms. She wanted Maya somewhere safe again before she went exploring.

Besides, it was just about snack time for Maya.

Maya followed closely behind Colbie.

"They seemed genuinely interested in the welfare of the child," she murmured. "I don't understand why. Do they plan to use it like our old handlers did, once it's born?"

"I'm not sure," Colbie murmured. "But I intend to find out." She frowned a bit. "I will learn what I can and report back."

Maya nodded a bit.

"I will stay in our rooms until you say it's safe," she said.

Colbie nodded and then went to go explore. She tested how far she could go, how many floors she could visit, and made a mental map of the tower. Because these were definitely good things to know, just in case.

Maya settled herself in their quarters, curling up on the couch. She managed to wheedle a small hologram out of Jarvis, and was watching a live feed of the baby again.

Bucky kept an eye on Colbie as she explored the tower. Really, he just wanted to make sure she didn't run into Clint or Natasha and didn't get into anything she shouldn't.

So, of course, Colbie ran into Natasha. She tensed, immediately recognizing the other woman as a threat, and she shifted back a bit. She hadn't been told the rules about engaging anyone else in the tower, so she wasn't sure how she should respond.

Natasha coolly sized Colbie up. She'd been informed about the guests in the tower, and she knew better than to pick a fight, but she would still take the opportunity to study the newcomers when it presented itself to her. Finally, Natasha gave Colbie a single nod.

"The gym is open," she said evenly. "If you feel you need to work for a while."

Colbie blinked once, and that was all the indication of her surprise. She nodded her assent of that, though, and mentally upgraded Natasha to the scariest person in the building.

Natasha gave Colbie one last once-over before continuing on her way to her rooms. Best to let the girl explore first before trying to learn more about her.

Colbie finished exploring (and she did check out the gym and approve it) before she went to report back.

For the next month or so, she and Maya both slowly broke their programming. It was harder for Colbie; she'd been in and out of cryo a few times, so her programming was more set. But she did relax and start showing real emotions, even if she wasn't necessarily good at talking yet.

Maya had an easier time than Colbie did when it came to breaking out of the programming. Her programming hadn't been reinforced since she'd been pregnant, and it had been weakening since before they'd defected from Hydra, so it was easier for her to relax.

Though she did end up waking Colbie in the wee hours of the morning the first time she felt the baby move. She was too excited over it to wait.
