Colbie frowned a bit at that, because that sounded like bad news. She stood a little straighter, shifting subtly so she was nearer Maya.

"What is it, Bruce?" Steve asked, looking concerned.

"Easiest things first, then," Bruce said. He picked up his tablet and shuffled through some of the results. "Maya's child is fine. It's healthy and growing right on schedule. And, according to the tests, it's a girl."

Maya gasped softly and put one hand to her belly, glancing at Colbie.

"I ran a DNA analysis on both Maya and Colbie," Bruce plowed on ahead. He glanced at Steve and Bucky. "They both have genetic markers that indicate enhancements very similar to yours."

Steve tensed at that. "What."

Colbie smiled a little at Maya before she glanced between the three men. "We were given a less successful version of the serum," she said, as if this were completely normal. "It is standard procedure for assets that prove useful and survive long enough."

Steve closed his eyes for a few moments, because that really made him want to punch something.

Bucky's expression went carefully blank.

"I see," he murmured.

Bruce gave them a few moments to process that before moving on.

"Out of curiosity," he continued. "I ran their DNA against the SHIELD database, to see if there were any matches. And, well..." He paused. "Maybe you should all see for yourselves."

A hologram screen popped up behind him, displaying pictures of Maya and Colbie. Lines branched out from them both, forming rudimentary trees. From Maya's picture, three lines branched out, two from above and one from below. The one from below was marked 'Baby Girl', and had its own single branch as well. One of the ones from above was marked 'Unknown Female' and the other was marked 'Anthony E. Stark' with a picture of Tony. The single branch from the baby connected to a picture of Bucky. From Tony's picture, a pair of branches came off noting Howard Stark and Maria Stark, but then a separate branch came off of Maria's picture to connect to Colbie's.

The moment Bucky processed what he was seeing on the hologram screen, the world around him went white and silent.

Colbie looked at the screen, memorizing the information. She was a little surprised at who her mother was; she'd never known, after all. The line to Bucky didn't surprise her at all.

Honestly, the fact that Tony Stark was Maya's father probably surprised her the most.

Steve stared at the screen for several moments before he noticed Bucky had gone still. Too still.

"Buck?" he murmured, looking at him.

Maya was also absorbed in memorizing the new information. She wasn't surprised about the connection to Bucky, either; she'd known from the start who the father of the child was. But the connection to Tony Stark was very surprising, and she couldn't help but glance at him.

It took several long moments for the world to thaw again enough for Bucky to hear Steve. He came back slowly, gradually unclenching his hands and his jaw.

"'M here," he muttered, his voice rough and slightly accented.

Tony was swearing inventively, and he wasn't looking at the girls. Because this, this was too much.

"Easy does it," Steve murmured to Bucky, trying to keep track of everyone.

Colbie shifted again, moving between Tony and Maya, because right now he was the biggest threat. For the moment, anyway. If Bucky slipped more into the Soldier, she wasn't sure which of them would be more unpredictable. So she kept an eye on both of them.

Bucky turned and stalked out of the room. He needed space, he couldn't be around so many people, not right then. He went back down to the gym. He needed a punching bag.

Maya stayed close to Colbie.

"Maybe we should go to our rooms," she murmured.

Steve watched him go but didn't try to stop him. He did sigh, though.

Colbie nodded. "Perhaps so," she agreed. She ushered Maya out of the room in front of her. Time to give everyone some room.

"Tony?" Bruce said carefully, watching the genius. "Honestly, I ran the tests as many times as I could before I ran out of materials. I'm as certain as I can be that the results are accurate."

"I don't believe this." Tony shook his head. "I don't, I don't have other family, Brucie, I don't, this makes no sense."

"I thought the first tests were corrupted somehow," Bruce said, nodding. "That's why I ran them again, because I was just as sure as you. But the science doesn't lie, Tony."

"Easy, Tony, it's okay," Bruce said, setting down the tablet. "Nobody's expecting you to be okay with this. It's a huge shock, it'll take time to get used to."

Tony made an indecipherable noise, shook his head, and headed for the elevators, because this called for scotch. Lots and lots of scotch, ALL the scotch.

Bruce just let him go. There was no point in trying to stop him, not when Tony was this upset. Instead, he picked up the tablet and sent an SOS to Pepper. She was the only one with a half-way decent chance of talking to Tony at this point. Once he'd done that, he glanced at Steve.

"You still seem tense," he observed.

"Yeah, well." Steve let out a short, humorless laugh. "Seems appropriate right now." He sighed. "This is going to change things."

"No kidding." Bruce sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "I thought it was complicated enough before, but this..." He shook his head. "And I'd bet my last research grant that they already knew about the father of that baby. Neither one of them was surprised."

"No, they weren't. They weren't surprised about the serum, either." Steve was quiet for a moment. "I wonder how much else they know that they just haven't told us yet."

"Let's just assume everything," Bruce replied. "And I'm going to assume they're as violently allergic to real medical professionals as Bucky was at first and plan accordingly, because I'm pretty sure neither one of them is going to let an actual doctor deliver the child."

"They seem okay with you," Steve said with a shrug. "And Bucky, they both seem okay with him. He's not a professional, but he's had a lot of crash-course training."

Steve nodded. "Thanks, Bruce," he said with a little smile for the scientist. At least that was done and hopefully, hopefully, that was the worst of it.
