By the time they got there, Maya was gone, Steve was panting, and the agents were all in heaps on the ground around him.
Colbie didn't even go check on Steve. She just started scouting around, going to investigate the agents and trying to figure out where they came from. |
Bucky, however, did go over to Steve.
"What happened?" he asked, checking Steve over and then glancing around to make sure none of the Hydra agents were going to get back up. |
"They ambushed us," Steve muttered, rubbing his shoulder where someone had gotten in a shot. "They weren't even trying to take me down, just distract me long enough to get Maya." And oh did he look murderous about that.
|
"Yeah, I bet," Bucky muttered. "Prob'ly wanted that kid back." He glanced over to see if Colbie had found anything.
|
Colbie kicked one of the agents when he started to move, looking rather viciously satisfied with that, and finally plucked something out of his vest.
"Better," she murmured to herself, looking around briefly. Without a word, she went over to Steve and plucked out his phone, ignoring his rather indignant yelp. |
"What'd you find?" Bucky asked her as he watched what she was doing. He kept an eye on their surroundings so she could focus.
|
"A location." Colbie smiled, and it was not a nice smile. "Follow me." She held onto Steve's phone as she started towards the base.
|
Bucky nodded and nudged Steve to follow as well. He knew his friend would come with them regardless.
|
It took Colbie a little while to get to the base, partially because it was well hidden, and partially because it was a ways away. But once she was in she left the fighting to the two of them, instead trying to find Maya as fast as she could.
|
Bucky followed Colbie, providing cover for her. He knew exactly what she was doing, and he was going to make it as easy as possible for her. He might not be okay with the fact that Maya's baby was his, not yet, but damned if he was going to let Hydra get their hands on it.
|
Colbie disarmed the first agent who tried to stop her and proceeded to use his gun with extreme prejudice.
Fortunately it didn't take her too long to find Maya. |
They hadn't had a chance to do more than sedate Maya and strap her to a table. She was dressed in a thin medical gown that was loose even across her belly, and restrained at the wrists and ankles with a few monitors hooked up to her that were softly beeping. The table was warped in places, as if from someone struggling. She didn't stir even when the door was opened.
|
Colbie let out a slow breath and moved over to the table, working on unstrapping her. She was careful, though, since this amount of stress couldn't possibly be good for her, or the baby.
Steve finally joined the other two again after taking down seemingly half the base, and he only got madder when he saw Maya. He was actually trembling, just a little bit. |
Maya stirred very slightly when Colbie started unstrapping her. She gave a thin, breathy groan as the muscles across her lower belly spasmed and tightened.
Bucky moved to intercept Steve when he saw how furious his friend was. "Careful," he murmured. "We don't know what they did to her, yet." |
"Easy," Colbie murmured to her. "Take it easy. I've got you." She finished unstrapping her but didn't try to sit her up just yet.
"I know what I'm going to do to them," Steve said, still quite murderous. |
Maya barely managed to get her eyes open, and she turned her head a bit towards Colbie.
"The baby," she murmured, the words slurring together a bit. "We need to get her out of here first," Bucky retorted to Steve. "She's obviously drugged. We'll come back later and take care of things here once we get her back home." |
"Safe as well," Colbie replied. "You'll both be fine, we're taking you back."
Steve nodded shortly, moving over carefully to Maya, though he didn't pick her up yet. Not until she was free of all the monitors and things. |
Bucky moved to guard the door until Colbie and Steve were ready to head out again. Nothing was going to get past him, no matter what.
Maya's breath hitched when the muscles in her stomach tightened painfully again. She was still pretty heavily drugged, so all she could really do as whine softly. |
"Easy," Colbie told her again, moving and motioning to Steve to pick her up. "We'll be back soon." She used Steve's phone, which she still had, to order Tony to send a pick-up for them.
Steve handled Maya as gently as he could, trying to make things easy on her. |
Bucky made sure their way out of the building was clear, cutting a path as needed until they were outside. As soon as he was sure nobody would try to follow them, he moved a bit closer to Colbie.
|
Colbie glanced at him but didn't protest, instead making sure that Steve and Maya were safe.
Steve bundled Maya carefully into the car that was waiting for them not far away, sitting next to her. |
Bucky guarded everyone until they were all in the car.
"You go with them," he said to Colbie. "I need to grab the bike. I'll meet up with you again at the tower." Maya leaned against Steve in the car. She still hadn't been able to fight off the sedatives yet, so she was barely conscious even as she was settled into her seat. |
Colbie nodded after a moment, getting into the car as well and keeping her attention split between the trip back and Maya.
Steve just kept Maya bundled up as close to him as he could, rubbing her back soothingly and assuring her in a quiet stream of words. |
Bucky went and retrieved the motorcycle, and then headed back to the tower as quickly as he could.
Maya made a small, pained sound as her stomach muscles visibly tightened and then slowly released again. |
Steve frowned when he noticed that, and he started rubbing her stomach instead, gently, trying to help.
As soon as the car stopped, Steve was out and picking up Maya again so he could take her up to medical. |
