Clara nodded.
Of course, talking to Tony Stark a few days later proved to be slightly challenging. Clara sighed a bit in frustration as she called for the third time and listened to it ring. |
Jarvis finally interceded since Tony wasn't taking the calls.
"You have reached Mr. Stark's workshop," Jarvis said, cool and formal. He knew who the phone number belonged to, but nothing more than that, since magic tended to not be on records. At least not ones he could access, which was minorly vexing. |
"Yes, I'm trying to reach Mr. Stark," Clara responded after a moment of surprise. "My name is Clara Johnson, I'm an associate of Stephen Strange."
"I see." Jarvis very nearly sighed. "Mr. Stark is not available at this moment. However, I can arrange a time with you now, if you wish, to come and meet with him."
"That would be fine," Clara said. "When would be good for Mr. Stark for myself and my partner to visit?"
"Wednesday, 2 PM," Jarvis said after a scant moment. "Mr. Stark has the afternoon open, so there will be no time crunch."
"Wednesday it is," Clara said, writing that down. "We'll be there. Thank you very much for your help."
"Of course." Jarvis hung up the call and put a reminder in Stark's calendar, so at least the others who bothered to check would know.
"Irene!" Clara called as she hung up the phone. "We've got a meeting on Wednesday!"
"Good!" Irene called back. "Hopefully he won't throw us out of the tower," she muttered to herself.
A few days later, Clara was headed to the tower with Irene, a basic travel-size magic kit stashed in her purse. Time to meet Tony Stark and see what they were working with.
Irene was a little surprised when they were admitted into the tower easily, and directed up to one of the higher levels. Above the working levels, certainly.
"Well, this is an adventure," she muttered. |
"No kidding," Clara murmured back. Even just the elevator was sleek and futuristic. She couldn't imagine what the rest of the place was like. "I honestly didn't know there were living floors here. I thought it was entirely a business building."
"That was maybe the point?" Irene ventured with a shrug. "I mean, even if I were one of the Avengers, I wouldn't be advertising where I'm living. Remember what happened in Malibu?"
"Point," Clara said. She shrugged a little and lapsed into silence until the elevator stopped. "Alright, time to see what we're working with."
Irene stepped out and looked around.
"If you will both please come this way." Jarvis lit up the little floor lights for them, creating a path to the labs. |
"Oh that's kind of cool," Clara murmured as she followed the lights. She glanced at Irene to see what she thought.
Irene shrugged and kept following the lights. So far this whole trip hadn't been what she expected, which was probably what she should have expected from Stark.
It didn't take them long to get to the lab, and Jarvis let them in. |
The music was blaring, though Jarvis turned it down as the door opened. Tony looked up when the music lowered.
"Hey hey hey, what is this, did I ask for you to turn down the music, J?" he asked, looking at the nearest camera. |
"You have a meeting, sir," Jarvis told him blithely. "Music at the levels you prefer are not conducive to meetings."
"A meeting?" Tony asked. "Since when? I do not recall deciding to ignore any meetings today, there were no meetings to ignore, since when is there a meeting?"
"Since last week. It is in your calendar, sir." Jarvis oh so helpfully pulled up a holo of today's calendar to show Tony that there was indeed a meeting.
"You scheduled a meeting for me and didn't actually tell me?" Tony asked pointedly. "I know I programmed you better than that, Jarvis, come on."
"If I had told you, sir, you would have canceled," Jarvis replied.
"This is kind of fun," Irene muttered to Clara. |
"This is awesome," Clara murmured back, grinning.
Tony just sputtered for a moment because of course he would have cancelled, that was the entire point of this argument. |
