Steve sighed and ran a hand through his hair again. "There were some revenants around, not a problem to take care of. There were a couple hunters that actually found them, so we hopped in to help, and..." He trailed off, struggling for the right phrasing. "I... think they might be... ours."
"Yours?" Natasha asked, prodding delicately. She knew what he meant, of course, but she wanted to hear what he thought. "And what, exactly, happened?"
Steve sighed again. "They both got hurt during the fight, not badly, but enough that Buck and I both accidentally got a taste." He flopped down into a chair for about three seconds before he was up and pacing again. "I don't even know her name."
"I see," Natasha said. She was quiet for a moment, considering that. "I can't say I'm surprised. You and James would be the ones destined to be with hunters."
Steve groaned. "Not helping," he grumbled at her, flopping over in a chair again. "Really not helping."
Natasha smirked.
"What else are you expecting me to say?" she asked. "Only you and James could get yourselves into something like this." She was quiet for a moment. "It seems like I should bring Clint and pay you boys a visit." |
"I thought you might say that," Steve said with a little grimace. "Are you going to help us or just stand around laughing at us?"
"Who says I can't do both?" Natasha asked. She delicately flipped open her calendar. "Clint and I will be there in a week. Try to refrain from turning into lovesick puppies before then, hm?"
"I hate you sometimes," Steve groused. But he would make sure the guest room was ready for them in a week, anyway. He hung up on her and went to go find Bucky to let him know too.
"Love you too," Natasha replied. She hung up, still smiling a bit. "Clint?" she called. "Start packing yourself a bag, we're going to visit Steve and James in a few days."
"What did they get into this time?" Clint asked, still sprawled lazily across his hammock for now.
"Steve seems to think that they've each found their one," Natasha replied, stretching out next to him on the hammock. "And, unsurprisingly, both are hunters."
Clint snickered. "Go figure," he agreed with a grin. "So we get to go help 'em sort themselves out?"
"Essentially," Natasha replied, settling in next to him. "And to have front row seats to the whole debacle."
Clint cackled. "That'll be fun." He shifted a bit so they'd both be more comfortable. "Sounds exciting."
"Indeed," Natasha replied. She smiled. "I told Steve we would be there in a week. I have no idea how long we will be staying with them, though."
"We can do laundry, no big deal," Clint said with a shrug. "For front row seats to this drama, we can stay as long as we have to."
"Exactly my thoughts," Natasha agreed. She kissed his cheek. "So be ready to leave in a couple of days. We have a pair of boys to watch."
"Sounds good to me." Clint grinned and settled in there to just relax with her for a while, for the meantime.
Natasha settled in next to him with a soft sigh.
Elsewhere, Aurora was also settling in, except with a hot mug of tea and a really big brownie. The swipes on her collarbone hurt, but she was more focused on something else. Namely, the guys that had shown up at the revenant fight. |
Reilly settled across from her with a sigh.
"So who the hell were those guys?" |
"Beats me," Aurora replied, taking a sip from her mug. "They came out of nowhere."
"But other hunters don't just pop up out of nowhere," Reilly grumbled. "And ones that we've never heard of? Even stranger."
"Considering we know most of the other hunters," Aurora added, nodding. "And Tony knows the ones we don't." She sighed a bit. "There was something about them that felt a little off, though, too. Something wasn't quite right."
"Right." Reilly frowned, mulling it over. "But I can't tell you what exactly was wrong, or off. Just that something was."
