Having had a rare day to himself, Bruce happened to decide to go on a walk in the park. He was just passing the pond when he noticed someone familiar running and then dropping to the ground. Remembering what day it was, Bruce decided to check on her. He came up beside Lori and quietly sat next to her, close enough that she knew he was there but giving her enough space that she didn't feel suffocated. After a minute or so of silence, he decided to speak. "I'm guessing it went badly."
"You could say that." Lori gave a short laugh sighing when a trash can caught fire. "Damn it." she put it out and flopped into the water. "I'm just going to lie here and drown slowly...or get pecked to death by and angry duck. Either way."
Raising an eyebrow, Bruce waded into the water and pulled Lori out. "I would really rather you not die." He said, then blushed awkwardly. "I mean...Clark would kill me." He added quickly.
"You would be fine." Lori sighed. "I'll write him a note and tell him a duck pecked me to death." she leaned against him. Then flinched when Clark landed next to them. "You are so lucky no one is around." she sighed looking up at him.
"I was more worried about you." Clark frowned at them. "Bruce was just protecting me from the ducks." Lori stood and took Clarks hand. "Ducks?" Clark smirked and glanced at them. "They do look deadly." "They totally are." Lori smirked. |
Bruce gave a tiny chuckle and handed Lori over to her boyfriend. "Of course. Ducks are deadly predators, you know." He kidded. "Well, now that you're here to keep Lori safe, I think I'll head home and find some dry clothes." He said.
"Thanks Bruce." Lori smiled at him then turned to see Clark frowning. "I swear there is nothing going on." she placed a hand on his cheek. "I love you Clark." He kissed her palm. "I know...I just." he trailed off. "What?" Lori frowned. "Never mind." Clark smiled at her.
Gemini, meanwhile, had lost sight of Lori and now was wandering around with no real hope of finding her. She only hoped that Clark had found her, and that Lori would be alright.
Joker emerged from a alleyway at that moment and blinked. "For a big city we sure do come across each.other a lot." he chuckled.
Gemini jumped, then sighed. "What the hell, are you stalking me or something?" She said, but there was no anger behind it. She just seemed...tired. "Look, I'm not in the mood to kill you right now, so if you don't mind, I'm just going to keep walking..."
"Fine, fine." Joker blinked at the sound of sirens. "Forgot about them." he chuckled.
Gemini rolled her eyes. "You seriously care that little? That even running from the cops is a non-issue? I don't get it. How do you manage to cause trouble on a constant basis, and never get nervous? One of these days, someone's going to shoot you."
"Technically you already did that." Joker smirked. "Or had you forgotten?" he spotted the cop cars. "Poor Gordo." he chuckled. "He knows Bats is the only one who can keep up with me.
"I meant a fatal shot and you know it." Gemini said, rolling her eyes. "Really, though. Who the hell stops to chat while they're running from the police? You could at least pretend to be afraid of them, give them a little confidence." Seeing the police cars, she started moving. Though she was technically a good guy now, she still didn't like to be around when the cops showed up.
"This way." Joker speed toward the on coming cars. "If you don't want to be caught of course." he dodged into a small deadend alley.
Without thinking, Gemini followed him. "A dead end. I'm assuming you have a plan?" She could get out of the alleyway easily enough, but she was curious about what he was going to do.
Joker smirked and moved a dumpster out of the way revealing a small door. "Come on." he opened it and ushered her in before following. "Don't trip." he warned and started to walk vanishing into the darkness.
Gemini shook her head in disbelief as she walked through the door. Leave it to this guy to have secret passageways. "I won't trip." She said. As if to make her point, she glanced back at him with glowing eyes, much like a cat. "I see better in the dark than most."
Joker shrugged then vanished from view. When she got to the spot there was a slide like tunnel.
Gemini rolled her eyes and took the tunnel.
Joker eventually came to a door that opened onto a street near her house. "Can you get home from here?"
"I can get home from anywhere in this city." Gemini answered calmly. This tunnel explained how Harley always got to her place so quickly.
"Well then this is your stop." Joker nudged her out. "See you around." he grinned. "Oh and for the record I didn't set it on fire." he closed the door.
Gemini climbed out, avoiding being touched by him at all. His words caused her to turn back, looking quizzically at him just as the opening closed. Set what on fire? Suddenly worried, she made her way quickly towards her apartment.
Lori was watching Gemini' apartment burn. "Oh Gem I'm so sorry." she was sobbing uncontrollable. "I didn't mean too."
Gemini blinked rapidly. "Whoa." Shaking herself out of her surprise, she turned and hugged Lori. "It's alright, really. Did my boss get out safely?" Since she lived above the restaurant she worked for, and the restaurant didn't open until later that night, the only person who could have been hurt besides her was her boss.
((Wasn't Lori just with Clark?)) |
