"So help me God, I will be on the next flight out there," Valerie replied. "I'm going to look for my sister, with or without the Round Table's help, if need be."
|
Merlin let out a short sigh. "If you come out here, you will have to stay out of the way," he told her. "You're not a field agent either."
|
Valerie bit back a retort at that.
"Then I'll go and book my flight," she said. With that, she promptly hung up and got up from her desk. She needed to tell Coulson she was taking emergency leave. |
Merlin just sighed. He had worried she would do something like this. But he could still work with that, he'd make this work.
Coulson was at his desk, as usual, with Clint bugging him by throwing little paper planes at him from the vent. |
Valerie knocked once and then let herself into the office.
"Sir?" she said. "Sorry to interrupt, but I need to take emergency leave pretty much right now. Just needed to let you know." |
Coulson looked up at that. "What happened?" he asked calmly, setting his pen down. Clint swung down from the vent, frowning and paying attention as well.
|
"Family emergency," Valerie replied. One hand fidgeted with the hem of her shirt. Belatedly, she added, "Sir."
|
"What kind of emergency?" Coulson asked. He wasn't denying her, certainly, but he was still asking questions. Partially to see how much he could find out, and partially because Callie would have told him with only a little prompting.
|
Valerie hesitated.
"It's my sister," she finally said. "Something happened, and I need to go." |
Coulson nodded after a moment. "Of course," he agreed. "Where are you going? Clint will get a jet prepped for us."
|
That made Valerie pause.
"Sir, I can't ask you to come with me, I'm sure you've got your hands full here," she said, holding up her hands. "I was fully intending to go on my own." |
"Oh I'm well aware of that," Coulson agreed. "But this is a rather serious something, it sounds like. Backup might not be a bad thing."
|
Valerie looked at him for a moment.
"Absolutely nothing I say is going to change your mind, is it?" she finally asked. |
"No." Coulson smiled serenely at her. At least she was learning.
|
Valerie wanted to argue, but she knew it was pointless.
"London," she finally said. "My sister works for a tailor shop." |
Coulson's eyebrow shot up at that. "She wouldn't happen to work for Kingsman tailors would she?" he asked mildly. Oh this might make things very interesting.
|
That made Valerie stop.
"How the actual fuck, sir?" she finally asked, just looking at him. |
Coulson just smiled. "Well, at least I know where we're going," he said, pulling out his phone. "I'd suggest you go gather whatever you need, we'll be leaving shortly."
He typed out a quick message to Harry first. Trouble over there? |
Valerie watched him warily for another moment before nodding and going to get her emergency bag from her locker.
Bugger off. After a moment or so, though, a second message arrived. How the bloody hell do you know? |
An agent of mine is rather distressed because something happened to her sister, who works for your agency, came the quick reply. We'll be there in eight hours or so. At least this way Harry couldn't say he didn't warn him.
|
Harry raised an eyebrow.
Your distressed agent wouldn't happen to have long hair hazel eyes, would she? he asked. Approximately 174 centimeters tall? Because he vaguely remembered that Callie was a twin, so of course her sister would look similar. |
And how woul you know that, Harry? Coulson's eyebrows shot up at that. He didn't know how quiet Valerie was, but he did know Callie hadn't mentioned a twin before.
|
One of our agents mentioned she was a twin, once. Harry growled a bit. The same agent who is now in trouble.
|
Well then, I guess you get to meet the twin soon. She's determined to get over there, so I'm smoothing over the process a little. Coulson smiled to himself.
|
Lovely. Do keep her out of the way, then. Harry was not in any mood to corral a desk agent while he was trying to find Callie.
