Steve snorted. "I forgot," he murmured. "The stove is fine, it'll work, I promise." But he was grinning.
"I've never heard a stove make that noise before," Mavin said, still eyeing the stove.
"Well, it's a unique stove," Steve said, still grinning. "Tony may have been on the tail end of a three-day bender when he made this." He patted the edge of the stove.
Mavin opened her mouth and then closed it again.
"I don't even know what to say to that," she finally said. |
"There's no correct thing to say," Bucky added dryly. "It's Tony."
Steve just snickered in agreement, still working on chopping things up. |
Mavin just shook her head and stepped out of the way of the two cooking. She absently checked her phone for any messages from her sister, although she wasn't necessarily expecting any.
Steve finished up his portion of work and got out of the way too, letting Bucky handle things.
"All okay?" he asked, noticing where her attention was. |
"Yeah, everything's fine," Mavin said, nodding a bit. "Or, I suppose I'm assuming everything's fine, since I don't have any frantic messages."
Steve chuckled. "That's generally a good indicator," he agreed.
"It's amusing, sometimes, I'll randomly get pictures from some of the others at the mansion," Mavin said with a bit of a smile. "Jean, Kurt, Bobby, sometimes even Logan. I'll just randomly get a picture of Connor and whoever is watching him, like they're trying to prove to me that they're not doing anything I wouldn't approve of."
Steve snorted at that. "Or they just want to share how adorable he is," he said with a bit of a grin. "One of the two. It's good that they send you pictures, though."
"Do you want to see some?" Mavin asked, just slightly hesitant. "I have a ton." She smiled. "Connor hasn't quite gotten to the point of growing an opinion on me taking his picture."
Steve grinned. "Sure," he agreed. "Once he gets there, he'll either hate having his picture taken, or love it. I'm not sure which one is better."
Mavin grinned.
"He's a bit like my brother, and knowing my brother, Connor probably won't like pictures when he's older." She pulled out her phone and opened her picture albums. |
Steve grinned as he looked through the pictures. He did pause briefly at a cute one of Connor and Lucy chilling on the couch watching Moana. "Can you send me that one?" he asked her quietly with a devious little smile.
"This one?" Mavin asked. "I suppose." She forwarded it to him, grinning a bit. "Going to send it to Bucky?"
"Thinkin' about it," Steve agreed with a little grin. "Little reminder of why he's playin' nice."
"Well, tomorrow I can send my report to the UN and hopefully it will get them off everyone's backs for a while," Mavin said. "Honestly, he seems like he's doing fine, and he's definitely made progress."
"He has." Steve smiled. "More than most people know, I think."
"Well, I am kind of being paid to keep an eye on his progress," Mavin pointed out, grinning a bit.
"Oh I know." Steve shot her a brief grin. "Awful job, isn't it?"
"I was a paper-pusher before this," Mavin said, giving him a bit of a wry look. "Good government job, desk work, excellent benefits. My job was never supposed to include superheroes."
"Life works that way," Steve told her, shaking his head. "Never thought I'd live past thirty, way back when, with all my ailments."
"And look at you now," Mavin replied with a bit of a grin. She flipped through a couple more pictures until she found one from when Connor was really little of Logan napping with the toddler on the couch.
Steve snickered at that one. "Kid has a way of melting everyone," he noted, still grinning. That was adorable, honestly.
