Kagome nodded. "Go ahead," she agreed. "Just be careful. Try not to give yourself a migraine this time."
Peggy snorted quietly at that, because clearly the potential threat of migraine wasn't going to stop Winter. |
Winter grinned.
"Yeah, well, we'll see what happens," she said. She stood up, and then hesitated. "Which way to get back outside...?" |
"That way. About thirty feet." Kagome grinned and pointed her in the right direction. She was rather looking forward to this, actually.
"Thanks," Winter said. She looked at Peggy and grinned. "Any bets on what will happen?"
"I give you a fifty-fifty chance of doing it alright," Peggy said after a moment. "You're definitely more used to doing it now than you were when we first showed up at Genkai's temple."
"Right," Winter said. "Well, wish me luck. Unless you want to come out and watch?"
"I'll come watch, just in case." Peggy stood as well and followed Winter outside. She took a slow, deep breath, looking around. "This is still damn awesome."
"It really is," Winter agreed. She looked around, judging the size of the courtyard. "This should be good enough for a first test." Going over to the edge of the courtyard, she took a breath to steady herself. "Here I go."
Reaching out, she pulled aside the metaphysical fabric and dashed through, appearing on the other side of the courtyard with a small ripple. She stumbled as the portal closed, and she closed her eyes for a moment, one hand going to her head. |
"Migraine?" Peggy asked, crossing the courtyard to get over to her. Just in case. It had worked, though, which was better than last time.
"Dizzy," Winter muttered, hand still over her eyes. "My head is spinning."
"Probably a sign to not do that again," Peggy commented lightly, keeping one hand under her elbow, just in case. "Guess we should settle in here for now, then."
"Gonna have to keep working at it," Winter pointed out. She didn't fight the hand on her elbow. "At least to try to get us home."
"Yeah but maybe not today after crossing worlds already?" Peggy pointed out. "Even though you didn't do it intentionally, it still seems to take a lot more energy than normal."
"Yeah, maybe," Winter said. She opened her eyes and shaded them from the light. "Not doing it anymore today, at least."
"That's a good plan. Come on, let's head back inside and see if we can find somewhere to flop for a bit." Peggy grinned a bit, sliding her bow over her shoulder to help Winter back inside.
Winter nodded and let Peggy help her back inside.
A few days later, the clan summit had ended and Inuyasha was free to come back to the shrine to see what was going on with the girls. He didn't announce his presence right away (not that Kagome wouldn't sense him immediately anyways, he knew) and instead investigated a little first, following his nose and his ears to see if he could piece together where the girls had gone in the shrine over the last few days. One of the trails was weirdly spotty, and there was a faint scent in the air similar to ozone that made his ears fold back a bit. |
Peggy had thoroughly explored the place, having had a great time in the shrine. She also noticed Inuyasha first, and she blinked and turned towards the central courtyard. "Someone's here," she murmured to Winter.
Sesshomaru was a couple hours behind his brother. The other clan leaders had decided they wanted to pay their respects to the resident miko at the shrine. As a young upstart foxling said, "They're all thanking her for letting them stay and not purifying them into oblivion." |
"What?" Winter looked around and blinked when she saw Inuyasha. He wasn't wearing the illusion, which seemed odd, but she supposed it was alright since it was the shrine. "Wonder why he's here."
"Dunno." Peggy shrugged, though she also peered out at him. "Doesn't look like he's in a hurry." She grinned. "And he still likes red, he's just switched over to t-shirts instead."
"I wonder if he actually likes the red or if it's just habit to wear red?" Winter mused. She paused. "Or maybe the tee is made of the fire-rat robe? That wouldn't surprise me."
"On the one hand, yes," Peggy agreed. "On the other hand, I can't see him altering the fire-rat robe." She shrugged. "I suppose we could ask... but I'm not sure he'll appreciate questions."
"Also that would require explaining how we know about the robe," Winter pointed out. "And I'm not sure how that conversation will turn out."
"Probably not well." Peggy shrugged. "Best let that sit for a bit, then." She grinned. "So, are we just going to watch?"
"I was going to do that, for now," Winter admitted. "If he comes over and wants to talk to us, great, but I don't want to go looking for that yet."
Peggy snickered a bit. "And here I thought dark hair was more to your tastes," she teased. "Or at least more... decorations."
