"Hi." Peggy grinned and held out her hand. "I'm Peggy." She didn't recall seeing him at the table when they'd dropped in, but that didn't mean much.

“I’m Shippo,” he replied. He grinned. “So how’d you drop out of thin air like that?”

"Teleporting," Peggy told him with a little grin aimed at Winter. "My friend Winter is still in training."

“Teleporting?” Shippo asked, green eyes bright. “How does that work?”

“Like this,” Winter said. She focused on a spot about ten feet to the left and pulled aside the metaphysical fabric, jumping through and appearing on the other side.

Inuyasha took the opportunity while Shippo was distracting the girls to pull Kagome aside.

“Hey,” he said. “So what’s the story with these two?”

"Wow." Shippo's eyes were wide. "That's awesome. Is there a distance range? Is it harder to do with passengers?"

Kagome looked over at him. "As far as I can tell, you already know most of it." She smiled mischievously.

“I can go maybe half a mile,” Winter said. “And I’ve been able to take two people before.”

“I want your take on it,” Inuyasha said. “What did they tell you?”

"Wow." Shippo looked suitably impressed. "So how'd you learn? Or is it an intrinsic thing?"

Kagome was quiet for a moment. "That they're a long ways from home, and got a little lost trying to get back." She shrugged. "I like them. I don't think they intended to interrupt the summit, nor do they mean any harm." She smiled again slyly. "At least, as long as no one starts trouble with them."

"Honestly, I have no idea what actually brought it about," Winter admitted. "It's a fairly new ability. It just sort of happened the first few times, before I figured out how to make it happen on my own."

"What do you mean?" Inuyasha asked, raising an eyebrow. His ears twitched a bit.

"Didn't have anyone around to teach you?" Shippo asked sympathetically. "Sounds kinda rough, actually."

Kagome grinned, because of course she'd noticed the girls' abilities. "What does the teleporting smell like, to you?" she asked instead of answering, glancing over at Winter and Peggy meaningfully.

"Someone we met said she knew someone like me a long time ago, but I've never met anyone else who can do what I do," Winter said.

"Ozone," Inuyasha replied. "Mostly like ozone, with a bit of a spark I can't quite put my finger on." Wariness crossed his face. "Why?"

Shippo nodded. "Yeah." He grinned then. "Shoulda seen the others, after you left," he told her in a conspiratorial stage whisper. "All glowering and pouting!"

"And does that spark remind you of anything?" Kagome continued. "Something you've had a lot of experience with?" He'd get there eventually, she knew. With some gentle guidance.

"Really?" Winter replied. "We were just glad to get out of there in one piece. What even was that that we dropped into?"

Inuyasha thought about that for a moment, going over what he knew about the teleporting scent. He blinked when something occurred to him, and his ears went back as he glanced at the two girls. "Since when does purity do that?"

Shippo gave a little apologetic smile. "A summit. Meeting of clans. Can't tell you much more than that," he admitted.

"No idea," Kagome admitted. "I think her abilities are singular, though. Peggy's are much more familiar."

That told her quite a bit as it was, and Winter nodded a bit.

"Okay," she said.

"Both of them?" Inuyasha said. He eyed the two warily. "That can't be a coincidence. There's just no way."

Shippo grinned at her easy acceptance. "Has Kagome given you two the grand tour yet?"

"Not really, she just let us explore," Peggy said with a little shrug.

"I know. But they're good people," Kagome reinforced. "I don't think you have to worry about them."

"I've seen all of the courtyard," Winter said. "Not a whole lot else."

"Kagome, we have no idea who they are, they apparently have skills nobody's ever seen, and on top of that they're miko," Inuyasha pointed out. "That doesn't seem just a little suspicious to you?"

Shippo nodded. "Come on, then, I'll show you some of my favorite spots," he offered the two.

Kagome frowned at him. "And what would be the purpose of coming here, then?" she asked. "If they wanted to do damage, the summit would have been a perfect time, but they left there easily enough, no arguments."

“Sure,” Winter said, grinning.

“I’m telling you, Kagome, something’s not right,” Inuyasha said. “There’s something they aren’t telling us, and I’m betting it’s important.”

Shippo glanced over at Inuyasha and Kagome before he started on the grand tour, showing them around and enjoying having a new audience.

"Well if you're so sure, why don't you go find out?" Kagome suggested, frowning at him.

"Because they danced around the subject on me when I asked them anything," Inuyasha replied. "They didn't lie to me, but I know they aren't telling the whole truth. I was hoping they'd talk to you."

"Maybe they're not comfortable telling everything to virtual strangers," Kagome pointed out reasonably. "You wouldn't be telling them anything if the situation was reversed."

There was nothing he could say to that, so Inuyasha just crossed his arms and looked away, ears still folded back a bit.

Kagome huffed. "Go talk to them," she encouraged. "Relax a bit. It won't kill you. Who knows, maybe you'll even gain a couple more friends."

"Keh," Inuyasha said. "Shippo's got 'em right now, let him have his fun."

Kagome laughed quietly. "Will you be staying?" she asked, her eyes glinting. She already had an idea that he'd be saying yes.
