Winter couldn't help but smile too.

"I'm fine, as well," she said. "But I do appreciate it."

Yukina smiled and nodded.

It ended up taking the girls a couple days to adjust, but they did. Genkai was nice, in her own was, as was Yukina. But that didn't mean the girls were prepared for what happened next.

"Hey, grandma! You home?" Yusuke yelled as he headed for the door.

The sudden shout wasn't what made Winter jump and spill her tea. Oh no, it was the fact that she knew that voice.

"Oh shit, that's Yusuke," she whispered to Peggy as she tried to shake hot tea off of where it spilled all over her hands.

Peggy mouthed a few very bad words, her eyes wide.

"In here, dimwit," Genkai called back, loud enough that he could hear. "No need to shout."

Winter shot Genkai a look that screamed 'WHY?'

"That's cruel," she said. "That is not okay."

"Since when do you sit in the kitchen, grandma?" Yusuke asked as he came into the room. "Don't you usually drink your tea outside?" He paused when he saw the girls. "Guests?"

"Yes, guests." Genkai smirked. "Yusuke, these are Winter and Peggy, they dropped in unexpectedly. Since I wasn't expecting guests, I don't have time to entertain them. Why don't you take them around the city for a few days?"

Peggy shot Genkai a frankly panicked look.

"Aww, come on, really?" Yusuke said. "I just got back from a case. Not even gonna let me relax first?" Even as he spoke, he was sizing the two newcomers up. Definitely human, but something was a little off about them, and he couldn't quite put his finger on what.

"Quit complaining," Genkai told him mercilessly. "Just take them with you for a few days. By then I'll know what to do with them in the long run."

"Damn it, grandma," Yusuke grumbled. "This is not my job. And I'm supposed to go out with Keiko tonight."

"So have Keiko help entertain them." Genkai smirked. "You can't grumble your way out of this one, dimwit."

"You owe me for this," Yusuke said. He glanced at the girls. "May as well come with me."

Winter blinked.

"Okay...?" she said uncertainly, glancing at Peggy.

Peggy still looked spooked, but she nodded. "Okay," she agreed mildly. "Thanks for everything, Genkai."

"I'm sure I'll see you again soon," Genkai said with a knowing little smirk. "Go on now."

Winter shot one last look at Genkai and got up to follow Yusuke.

"Man..." Yusuke grumbled. "Keiko's gonna kill me... I promised her a date tonight."

"Sorry?" Peggy offered after a moment. It seemed appropriate, and was literally the only word she could squeak out.

"Hey, I can't exactly blame you for it," Yusuke pointed out. He looked at the two of them. "You alright? You look kinda spooked."

"Yeah, nope, we're good," Peggy said. "Just a little spooked. We're not from here, and we weren't expecting to take a trip."

"Not from around here, huh?" Yusuke asked. "Genkai doesn't get many visitors." He stretched his arms over his head. "Now what'm I gonna do with you? Keiko will really kill me if I skip out on another date..." He thought for a moment and then grinned. "Got it. I'm sure Kurama owes me one somewhere, I'll see if he'll keep an eye on you two."

With that, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a phone, hitting one of the speed dial buttons and waiting.

It didn't take more than two rings before Kurama picked up.

"You can't possibly be getting us into trouble again already," he said in lieu of greeting.

"I'm hurt that you would think that, Kurama," Yusuke replied, smirking. "Just who do you think I am?"

"The same Spirit Detective I have known for years now," Kurama replied dryly. "Now, if you're not dragging me into another case, what do you need?"

"Actually, I was hoping you kept a tally of the favors we all owe each other, because I'm calling one in," Yusuke said. "The old lady dumped a couple of girls on me for me to babysit, new apprentices or something. But I promised Keiko I'd go out with her tonight, and, y'know..."

"No," Kurama said. "If anything, you owe me, Yusuke. Besides, I can't take in a couple of human girls, not here." He frowned. "Just postpone your date a night or two, Keiko will understand."

"Aww, come on, Kurama," Yusuke wheedled. "Besides, I already had to postpone with Keiko twice, she might actually try to kill me if I do it again."

Kurama sighed after a few quick moments of deliberation. "Very well," he agreed. "Just for the evening, though. No more than three or four hours."

"Got plans later or something?" Yusuke asked, curious. Normally Kurama was a bit more lenient.
