Amaryllis took the bowl, drinking carefully. "Thank you," she murmured.

"Not at all," Fili said. "You seem a little better than a couple of days ago, at least."

"I still feel pretty awful," Amaryllis said with a weak grin. "Hard for me to tell."

"I will not deny that I am worried," Fili admitted. "This illness has claimed some of the people of Dale."

Amaryllis blinked. "Really?" she asked, a little worried now. Sure, it wasn't fun, but she'd thought it was more along the lines of a bad cold. Nothing deadly.

"Not many people," Fili elaborated. "A few of the elderly. But still, it worries me that you are so ill."

Amaryllis shrugged a bit, and then winced when that hurt. "I've been this sick before," she said. "Not for a few years, but it's happened. Still sucks." She pouted, just a little.

"I await the day that you've recovered," Fili said. He grinned a little. "Then you can watch my brother fawn over your sister."

Amaryllis laughed at that, at least until it turned into a painful, wet cough instead. Then she just looked miserable again.

"Easy, now," Fili said, helping her lay back. "Just rest. Don't make yourself worse."

"'m trying," Amaryllis muttered, getting comfortable again. "Ugh." She made a face.

Amaryllis huffed a bit but settled down. Somehow she got hold of one of his hands.

Fili blinked when he realized she had one of his hands. He wasn't entirely sure what to do; it would be rude to just take his hand back and to be honest, he wasn't sure he wanted to.

Amaryllis noticed too, but she just shrugged a bit. She got kind of clingy sometimes, especially when she wasn't feeling well. And that wasn't a look of panic on his face, or disgust or anything, so they were good. She settled down a bit, relaxing.

A few days later, Amaryllis was getting better, and Hyacinth was coming down with the illness. Hyacinth coughed miserably as she curled up under a thick quilt, the dragon-scale baby blanket set aside for the moment.

Kili had pretty much taken over taking care of Hyacinth, since even though Amaryllis was getting better she wasn't well yet. He didn't envy Fili having to talk her into staying in bed.

"Here we are," Kili said, setting a tray down and bringing over a cup. "Uncle Bilbo's tea that he swears by."

Amaryllis was watching Kili, not exactly pouting or upset but in an odd mood none the less.

"Are you alright?" Fili asked as he brought Amaryllis some tea of her own. "You seem troubled."

Hyacinth gave a small smile but was stopped from actually thanking him by another coughing fit. She groaned a bit afterwards, rubbing her chest a little.

"Not used to this," Amaryllis said after a moment, taking her cup of tea and looking into it. But she didn't drink it.

"Easy does it," Kili soothed. "The tea's supposed to help with that cough, according to Bilbo."

"Being ill?" Fili asked as he handed her the cup. "I would hope not." He glanced over where his brother was taking care of her sister. "Or is it that someone else is looking after your sister?"

Hyacinth just nodded a little and took the tea, sipping it slowly. The honey and mint in it soothed her throat, and she gave a soft, raspy sigh.

"...Both," Amaryllis admitted after a few moments of silence. She took a sip of her tea to hide her expression.

Kili nodded his satisfaction of that and settled in next to her. "Uncle Bilbo said lots of tea, some broth, and rest," he said, watching her.

"Kili will look after her," Fili said gently. "Besides, it gives you time to recover more, which you need."

"I'm sure he did," Hyacinth murmured, still sipping the tea. "He doesn't need to be worrying about us right now."

"I know," Amaryllis said. "I can't do much until I'm well again." She made a face. Inactivity didn't suit her well.

"He's going to anyway," Kili said. "And, by the way, how exactly does that work? Is this a hobbit thing? Uncle Bilbo being pregnant?" He still looked a little shocked when he actually said the word, because this was Not A Dwarf Thing.

"I understand," Fili said, nodding. He was quiet for a moment. "Perhaps you could explain something for me? Bilbo made an announcement earlier... About a coming child...?" He tried to phrase it delicately, looking extremely baffled and a little distressed.

Hyacinth accidentally inhaled some tea at that, which set off a coughing fit.

"Oh he told everyone," she gasped as she tried to catch her breath. "Yes, well... Hobbits... Tooks, specifically... Some males are able to bear children. Uncle Bilbo happens to be one of them."

Amaryllis blinked. "Yes?" she said, tilting her head. Then his expression cottoned on. "Oh, right, dwarf males can't, huh?" She nodded. "It's actually a very specific thing, not all male hobbits can. It's only some of them, and only from the Took family. Uncle Bilbo just happens to be a carrier."

Kili caught her tea and took it away before she spilled it everywhere, hovering over her while she coughed. At her explanation, he blinked. "Why only Tooks? What Tooks? Why Uncle Bilbo?" he asked rapidly, clearly turning this over in his mind.
