"Right." Rose shrugged a bit. "Either way we've got a bit of time." She grimaced as she dumped her wet jeans off to the side.
|
Summer also peeled off her wet shorts, sitting there in just her damp bathing suit.
Neither of them got to do anything else before the sound of a horn rolled over them from the shore. "What...?" Summer said. Moana was already turning towards the beach. "Something's coming," she said, heading out of the hut. |
Rose glanced at Summer before she swore and took off, running down towards the beach after Moana. Well, this was probably a good indication of what was wrong with the world. Probably. Hopefully.
|
Summer followed.
As soon as she reached the beach, she could see what was going on. A massive ship, seemingly cobbled together from anything and everything, was just out past the reef. It was crawling with what looked like... coconuts? An enormous red hawk circled the patchwork ship, occasionally diving and attacking. Moana was already unmooring a canoe, clearly intent on getting out to the invading boat. |
Rose looked from the patchwork ship to Moana to the canoe. And then she helped push the canoe out into the water.
"We're going with," she said. "To help. Those things don't feel right to me." She eyed the coconuts. |
"Kakamora," Moana said as she jumped onto the canoe and started to adjust the rigging. "They're pirates. But they've never come so close to us before, not to the island."
Summer jumped up onto the canoe as well, calling her keyblade. "There's something definitely not right about them," she agreed. |
"Well, guess we'll have a chance to practice our new moves," Rose said with a little grin, watching the kakamora ship approach. It couldn't get past the reef, though, being too deep and heavy. "Let's go get rid of them."
|
"Guess so," Summer agreed, standing ready as the little canoe got closer. She could hear the cackles and war cries of the coconut pirates getting louder.
The red hawk dove at the canoe, and there was a brief flash of light before Maui stood on the crowded little deck. "Moana!" he said. "I've got no idea why they came here, I tried to turn them back but they're incredibly determined." He paused and looked at the other two. "And... who are you?" "I'm Summer, she's Rose," Summer replied, a bit distracted. She could sense something from the ship, something that tugged at her heart, and it made her want to go an investigate. "We can help with the heartless if we can get on that boat." |
"Heartless?" Maui looked at her. "Those are kakamora."
"Fight now, explain later," Rose said, twirling her keyblade between her fingers. "Can we get closer?" "You want to get closer?" Maui asked, looking at her like she was nuts. "Yeah, I want to go hop on one of the ships." |
"I can get you closer," Moana said, already adjusting the sail and oar. "But how do you plan on fighting the kakamora?"
"We've encountered other monsters like them," Summer said, hefting her keyblade. "They feel the same as the other ones did, so our keyblades will work on them." |
Rose grinned a bit. "Oh this will be good," she murmured.
Maui looked at them both like they were crazy and then shook his head. "Right," he said. "If you two are gonna be crazy heroes, you need someone experienced at it." With a whoop, he transformed into a bird again and went to go distract the kakamora enough to give the two a chance to get on the ship. Rose grinned at that. "I like him," she said in an aside to Summer. |
"I do too," Summer said, bracing herself as the little canoe got close to the kakamora's behemoth boat. "And I kind of want to see if we can learn how to do the thing." He tilted her head towards the huge red hawk. "That would be awesome."
As soon as the canoe was close enough, Summer jumped across. She was almost immediately confronted by the little pirates, and she grinned. Time to crack some coconuts. |
Rose leapt after her, and grinned as she literally started using her keyblade like a baseball bat, sending coconuts flying. She even caught one as it was jumping at Moana.
|
"Rose!" Summer grinned as she hooked one of the kakamora with the end of her keyblade and flung it towards her friend. She noticed that every time she cracked open a coconut, a heart fluttered out and disappeared.
|
Rose whacked it as hard as she could, accidentally sending the one bowling into half a dozen others. "Wow. Lookit that." She grinned as she noticed the little hearts fluttering out. "This is kind of fun."
|
"They just keep coming," Summer said as she swept her keyblade around and cracked open a bunch of them. The hearts twinkled as they fluttered away. "Like a never-ending flood of coconut pirates."
|
Rose laughed. "Just think of how much coconut water we could be getting," she said as she smacked another one to pieces. "But we do I think need to do something more than hit the little ones. Aren't there usually bigger ones? Leaders?"
|
"You'd think so," Summer said, nodding. She stumbled and nearly fell into the water when the boat suddenly shuddered and changed course. The shell horn sounded as the boat started to move away from the island.
|
"I think that's our cue to go find said bigger bad in charge." Rose kicked one of the coconuts out of her way and headed towards the center of the ship to see what she could find.
|
"Probably towards the inside," Summer said. Already, the water was starting to rush past the enormous boat. "Unless these little ones are heading back to the big bad, you think?"
|
"No idea," Rose said. "Either way, I think it's best we stay on the boat and keep freeing hearts." She punted another coconut off the ship and watched the heart flicker away.
|
"We can do that," Summer said, hooking another pirate and flinging it at her sister. Then she spun around and whacked a few more.
|
Rose cracked open the one flung at her and then just kept cracking coconuts. After a while she noticed not only were there fewer kakamora, but they seemed to be congregating in the center of the ship, preparing for something.
"What do you think that's about?" she asked Summer in a murmur. |
"No idea, but we should find out," Summer said. "It can't be good." She started to pick her way across the deck, being careful not to trip over any of the coconut shells littering the boards.
|
Rose headed across as well, peering around. They seemed to be moving quite fast now, and approaching something. Something moving in the water.
With a lurch of horror, Rose realized it was a giant whirlpool. "Oh shit." |
