"Ah. Those." Rose gulped as her stomach dropped. "Looks like we've still got some work to do." The problem now was how to get to the heartless.
"What the actual and entire fuck," Summer whispered as she watched the writhing mass of heartless. "How are we supposed to deal with this?"
A group of heartless dropped from the ceiling, landing near them, and Summer yelped and skipped backwards. |
Rose jumped back as well. "Well, that's one way," she muttered. She took a deep breath and dove right back at the heartless, working on banishing as many as she could.
Summer jumped back into the fray as well, laying about with her keyblade. She couldn't help but laugh a bit as she got into a good groove and destroyed one heartless after another.
It didn't take long for the little creeping heartless to fall back. A much larger one came forward, looking like a dark, faintly-smoking copy of Tamatoa with glowing yellow eyes. "Well now that's just insulting," Tamatoa said. |
"I guess they figure if it works, run with it," Rose said, eyeing the heartless Tamatoa. "You go high, I go low?" she asked Summer. "Or would you prefer the other way around?"
"You go left, I'll go right?" Summer suggested, keyblade ready. "Let's see how hard we can hit this thing."
"Done." Rose started to the left, going to attack the claw first.
Summer smirked and lunched forward, ducking under the claw and going for the legs. Her keyblade glowed faintly as she smashed it against the armored limbs with a series of satisfying crunches.
The heartless made a shriek-like noise and swung at them, scuttling around. Rose yelped and ducked a claw swung at her, and then jumped after the claw and used it to scramble up on top of the heartless to smash at its head and eyes.
While Rose went high, Summer stayed low and continued to take out the legs of the heartless. She smashed through the last one and the body of the heartless crashed down to the ground.
Rose nearly got thrown off, but managed to stay on. She got in a lucky blow to the head, and the heartless went still, and then started to dissipate into smoke.
Summer watched as a cluster of hearts fluttered up and away as the heartless dissolved. The heartless on the ceiling seemed to squirm uncertainly, and then they disappeared in a series of cracks and pops until none were left.
"I guess that's it?" she asked, glancing at Rose. |
"I guess so?" Rose looked just as uncertain. Really, she wasn't entirely sure. But they'd beaten the big bad guy, so that should be it, right?
"Well, now that that's over..." Tamatoa limped to the other side of the cavern. "Get out of my lair. I don't care how shiny your things are, nothing is worth this, now go."
Rose looked at Summer. "I think we've wailed on him enough," she said with a little nod. "Now we just have to figure out how to get topside again."
"I don't have the faintest clue," Summer said. She didn't dismiss her keyblade just yet as she looked around. Her gaze was drawn upwards, and she could see the weak light coming through the gravity-defying water. "We might be able to swim if we could just reach that."
"So now the question becomes how to reach up there." Rose bounced a bit on the balls of her toes. "Hmm." Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted one of the geysers spouting up. "I... might have an idea."
Summer blinked and looked over to where Rose was looking.
"What." She watched the geysers go off. "Are you kidding? Please tell me you're kidding." |
"Do you see any other way up?" Rose asked, frowning a little. "'Cause I don't."
"Let's take a quick look around," Summer said. "If we don't find anything else that looks viable, then we'll figure out how to ride the geysers back to the top. Sound good?"
"Sounds good." Rose started looking around, although she didn't have to go far. She just had to get around a rock formation before she saw something very out of place.
"What the hell is a police box?" |
Summer saw it as well and blinked.
"I have no idea," she said. "But it doesn't belong here. It doesn't match the rest of this crazy monster world." She looked at Rose. "Let's go see what it is." |
Rose jogged over to it and tried the door. "It's locked. Damn." She made a face and turned to walk away.
And then turned right back around. "I have a big bloody key, what am I doing," she muttered, shaking her head. "I'm going nuts, Summer." She pointed the keyblade at the door and grinned at the distinctive snickt of it unlocking. |
Summer couldn't help but snicker.
"If you hadn't thought of it, I would have," she said, hefting her own keyblade. "Let's go in." |
Rose pushed open the door and did a double-take. "Wow," she muttered. "Okay, bigger on the inside, good to know." She stepped inside, looking around.
