"Yeah," Rose murmured. "Real thing." She shot a wide eyed look at Summer. "So what now?"
"We get dressed and then..." Summer paused for a moment. "Then we figure out where we go next. I mean, we were literally just handed a quest by the actual Mickey Mouse, I don't think that's the sort of thing you're allowed to take a pass on."
"No I don't think we can." Rose was quiet for a moment. "Okay. Clothes first. And then we can look at the map again. One thing at a time."
"Right," Summer said. Her keyblade vanished in a small flash of light, and she just stood there for a moment before heading into her room to get dressed.
Once she had managed to find a sturdy pair of jeans and a shirt that could take a bit of travel, if need be, she threw a couple more changes of clothes into a bag. No matter what ended up happening, she got the feeling she would need them. |
Rose was doing similar, throwing her necessities in a bag that she could still carry easily enough. Her hands were shaking a little, but she couldn't say if it was from fear, anxiety, excitement, or some combination thereof.
Once Summer had pulled on her favorite hoodie and a decent pair of boots, she grabbed her bag and headed back into the kitchen to wait for Rose. She blinked when she saw a neatly folded paper airplane on the table, and she picked it up.
Rose arrived a moment after her, already in comfortable clothes and with a bag slung across her back.
"What's what?" she asked, spotting the paper airplane. |
"I'm not sure," Summer said, picking it up. "But it has Mickey on it." She turned the airplane so that Rose could see the iconic symbol neatly stamped across the middle seam of the plane, touching both wings. "Three guesses who it's from."
Rose snorted. "The king," she muttered. "Well, go on, let's see what it says." She set her bag down for now.
Summer nodded and unfolded the airplane. The iconic seal disappeared with a shimmer and a faint 'pop' as she flattened out the paper.
Hiya, Sorry I couldn't contact you better, the door seems to be shut pretty tight for now. But don't you worry, I'm not about to leave you high and dry! The place you need to head first is called Radiant Garden. They're familiar with keyblades and keybearers there, and they can help you get started. They also have a copy pf the same map I showed you before, so you'll know where to go from there. Best to hurry, now. There are worlds that need your help, and something tells me more might start cropping up soon. Remember: Radiant Garden. --Mickey |
"Well, that's a start," Rose murmured. "At least we've got a name. And he's way too cheerful about all of this, I swear."
"Well, I mean, he's Mickey Mouse," Summer pointed out as she refolded the airplane and tucked it into her sweatshirt pocket. "I think he's designed that way." She hesitated for a moment. "So... I've got a full length mirror in my room. Should we try that?"
"Probably our best bet," Rose agreed. "Go ahead, lead the way. We'll see if this actually works or not."
Summer nodded and headed down the hall, back to her room. The full length mirror was on the door of her closet, just a plain mirror. She glanced at Rose.
"Here goes nothing," she muttered. She summoned her keyblade to her hand. As soon as she did, the reflection in the mirror seemed to darken a little, and she could see the faintest outline of a keyhole. After a moment, she pointed her keyblade at it, feeling just a little foolish as she did so. A thin beam of light shot from the tip of the keyblade to the center of the faint keyhole. There was a click in the back of her mind, and the surface of the mirror went completely opaque and a little swirly. |
"Well. That's new." Rose stared at it, amazed. She blinked a couple times, then took a deep breath. "Radiant Garden," she murmured. "That's where we need to go."
"Right," Summer murmured as well. "Radiant Garden." She took a tentative step forward and reached out to touch the mirror. She shuddered slightly when the surface gave under her fingers, but steeled herself and kept walking until she'd gone through.
Rose went through right after her, not wanting to get left behind.
She did blink a few times when she emerged on the other side, though, shading her eyes and looking around. Well. They definitely weren't home. |
Summer looked around as well, not letting go of her keyblade just yet.
"Well, we're not home," she commented as she looked at the odd buildings and terraces around them. "And we're not in that other world, either, it doesn't feel the same." |
"No," Rose agreed. "Well, nothing else for it. Shall we take a look around?" She picked a direction and started walking without actually waiting for a reply.
"Sure," Summer said, jogging a couple of steps to catch up to her friend. She couldn't help but gawk a bit at the town. It was so different than what she expected, although she hadn't really been sure what she had expected to begin with. "I kind of like this place, actually. There's something about it."
Rose nodded. "It's different, but it's a good different," she agreed. "Almost... welcoming, in a way." She smiled a bit.
"Yeah," Summer said, nodding. "That's exactly it." She looked around. "It's comforting, sort of. And I can see why it's called Radiant Garden."
"Yeah." Rose relaxed a little as she walked. "I definitely like this place."
"Well, we're kinda fond of it too," said a voice from behind them. |
Summer jumped and muffled a shriek. She spun around to see two girls around the same age as her and Rose, one a redhead and one a blonde.
"Oh I'm sorry," the blonde said. "We didn't mean to startle you. I'm Namine." |
"I'm Kairi," the redhead said, smiling at them.
Rose eyed them both for a moment before she nodded to them. "Rose," she said. |
