Tui read the note, his eyebrows going up as he did so.
"That certainly explains some things," he murmured, skimming the note a second time. He looked at the two newcomers. "How do we know you are who your... king... says?" |
Rose was quiet for a moment. "I'm guessing he said something about keyblades," she said. She held out her hand and called her keyblade, holding it up for him to see. "This is a keyblade."
|
Tui's eyes widened a little at that.
"Amazing," he murmured. He looked at Summer. "And you?" Summer raised a hand and summoned her own keyblade as well, holding it easily. |
Sina looked at them both appraisingly before looking at Tui again. "It seems the letter is correct," she murmured. "Perhaps we can ask them further questions after giving them a chance to dry off and change?"
Rose beamed at that, because that was a fantastic idea. |
Tui nodded.
"Yes, of course," he said. He looked at the two. "Please, feel free to settle in a little. We will talk more once you've gotten into something dry." |
"Thank you," Rose said, smiling.
"This way," Moana told them, beckoning for them to follow her as she led the way to a quieter, smaller hut where they could get changed and comfortable. |
"Thanks," Summer said as she followed Moana. She was definitely looking forward to getting her wet shorts off.
"No problem," Moana said as she went with them into the hut. "So, who are you, anyways? And how did you get to our island?" |
"We're travelers," Rose said, glancing over at Summer. And then she just decided to go with the truth, sort of. "We dropped into the ocean not far from here and swam to shore. Oh, speaking of, we saw a giant manta swimming around the island. At least it looked like a manta."
|
Moana was about to ask what sort of travelers they were, that they didn't even have a boat, but stopped when they mentioned the manta.
"You... can see her?" she asked, eyeing the two with a new sort of sharpness. |
"...Yes?" Rose asked, noticing the sudden shift. "Are we not supposed to?" Her hand tightened a little on her keyblade.
|
"Well... No," Moana said, shaking her head a bit. "Hardly anyone sees her. I can barely see her, sometimes." She eyed them both. "Are you demigods? Or magic of some sort?"
|
"Um." Rose blinked. "Not demigods, definitely not. Magic is... more likely, honestly."
|
"You don't know?" Moana asked, skeptical.
"We're kind of new to the whole keybearer thing," Summer said. "We just know that we're here because this world is in trouble somehow and we're the ones able to fix it." |
Moana blinked at that. "The world is in trouble?" she asked. "No, that's not right, it should be fine now."
"Should be?" Rose's eyebrows shot up at that. |
"What happened that it wasn't fine before?" Summer asked. "And how did you fix it?"
|
"The heart of Te Fiti needed to be returned," Moana said. "Darkness spread across the world. Fish died. Coconuts were bad on the trees." She shrugged. "But the heart has been returned, there shouldn't be a problem."
|
"Has anyone checked on it?" Summer asked after a moment. Only about half of what Moana had said even made sense, but it made enough sense that Summer still had to ask. "Like, has anyone actually gone and made sure the thing is still where you put it?"
|
Moana smiled a bit. "We haven't needed to," she said. "We can tell. And really there's only one person who could take the heart at this point, and he won't do it again."
|
"Well, something's going on with this world, or we wouldn't need to be here," Summer said. "There's nothing at all you can think of that's not right?"
|
"No," Moana said slowly. "Nothing comes to mind immediately." She frowned at them.
Rose's eyebrows shot up but she didn't protest. It was possible they just didn't know about the danger yet. |
"Okay," Summer said. She was quiet for a moment, thinking. "Alright, then maybe we should ask someone not from this island. Maybe the problem isn't here here, but it's just... somewhere here. Maybe whatever trouble it is is happening somewhere else."
|
"There are other islands," Moana said. "But most of them aren't inhabited. We've traveled to several of them."
Rose looked at her before she looked back at Summer. "Or maybe the problem just hasn't hit here yet," she pointed out. |
"I guess," Summer said, still a bit doubtful. "Why was it flickering, then, if the trouble's not here yet?" She made a face. "This makes no sense. I swear I just kind of want to shake Mickey until he tells us what exactly we're supposed to be doing."
|
"I don't think that'd work," Rose said, making a face. "He'd probably just give us some other distraction."
|
"Probably," Summer said. She sighed. "Well, may as well hang around and enjoy the tropical island for a little while and see if anything crops up. Either that, or see if we can find a suitably reflective surface and head back to Radiant Garden."
