Clint drummed his fingers against his thigh as he waited for Luna to pick up. He was bored and clearly this was now Luna's problem.
"What do you want, Clint?" Luna asked as she picked up. "At least, I'm assuming you're Clint."
"Please, you think Apollo would deign to use a phone?" Clint snorted. "I'm bored. And Tony just rolled in looked freaked as hell about something, but it's too soon to go poke him and find out."
Luna sighed.
"I was actually managing to doze," she said to him. "Because for once, Artemis didn't insist on driving out for the weekend to go camping." She sighed a bit. "You want me to bring my bow and come over so you're not bored anymore, don't you?" |
"You don't have to bring the bow," Clint said with a shrug. "We don't have to shoot things. I've got game consoles here that work just as well, Netflix, you name it."
"I'll bring it anyways," Luna said. "Because you and I both know that if I don't, we'll end up with both of them showing up unannounced and she will ask why." She grinned a bit. "So, may as well be prepared, even if all I plan to do is annihilate you in Mario Kart."
Clint scoffed. "As if," he said. "You won't beat me. Not this time." He grinned, though. This was easy and familiar.
"I will make you eat your words," Luna promised, already stretching a bit and pulling on a pair of sandals. She would have preferred closed shoes, but Artemis had this thing about being able to move her toes and feel air on her feet. "I'll be there in twenty."
"Good." Clint hung up and went to go set up Mario Kart, because a challenge like that needed to be met.
Luna snickered as she slipped her phone into her pocket and picked up her bow. She had meant it when she said she would bring it with her. Then she headed out to her car and started out for the tower.
Clint was there waiting for her. There was a bowl of popcorn on the coffee table in front of him, and he was perched on the back of the couch. Natasha was in the kitchen supposedly making a protein shake but mostly just snooping.
Luna grinned as she set her bow by the door and toed off her sandals.
"Ready to taste blue-shelled defeat?" she teased, plopping down on the couch and grabbing a controller. |
"You wish," Clint said with a grin, letting her settle in and pick the first track.
"It's on now," Luna said, smirking and getting ready to start.
Clint lost the first game, but won the next two, and was very pleased about that by the time Steve wandered up to the living room to find something to eat. He blinked at the new person on the couch with Clint, then shrugged and went to rummage around to make himself a shake.
Luna glanced over when she heard someone walk in. She could tell there was something a bit special about him, outside of the whole Captain America thing, but she didn't immediately say anything about it. She gave him a quick smile as he walked by, and then went back to playing the game.
Clint snickered a bit. "Hey Steve."
"Clint." Steve dropped things into the blender, still searching for one particular ingredient. "Having fun?" "I'm still winning so yes. By the way, this is Luna. Luna, Steve." |
"Hey," Luna said as she twisted the controller a bit. She cackled when she managed to grab a blue shell and nailed Clint with it, zooming into first place. "HA! Take that, you pretentious golden prophet!" She smirked at Clint, and there was a very thin ring of silver in the irises of her eyes.
Clint scowled at her. "Hey now," he protested, a little gold seeping into his eyes slowly. "I'm hardly ever pretentious, and I'll make you eat those words."
Eyes that became even more silver turned to him.
"That sounded like a challenge," Artemis said through Luna. "And I think we both know how those tend to turn out." |
Apollo smirked through Clint. "How much harm ever came from a video game?" he asked, still smirking.
Steve was watching them and idly wondering if he ought to go hide behind his shield now. |
"You say that now," Artemis said, though she was still smirking as well. "Do be careful, we have an audience to witness your defeat." Her smirk was identical to his own. She moved the game back to the start screen. "Your start, brother."
Apollo smirked and picked the course. "Oh don't worry, he won't see anything that will humiliate me," he said cheerfully.
"We'll see," Artemis said, watching the countdown start on the screen. As soon as it hit 'Go,' her kart took off, zipping ahead.
Apollo had to admit that he had as much fun razzing her as he did actually racing. Especially since he won.
