((I'm late, I'm late!! I know, I know! Kit was feeling bad so I talked to him a little longer than normal. And forgives, but am finishing up something for another site XP))
Edward's steps started again, slowly and stayed that way. Winry....liked him? like...he liked Shiba? When had that happened, he remembered fighting with Al over who would marry her when they were kids, but....he never figured that those feelings would last...how could they, when they developed at eight? Alphonse glared with a pout and huffed. "Don't label us both like that Shiba, it's insulting." He sighed though and cocked his head in a questioning stance. "Are you sure? We've got plenty of room in the house if you really don't want to sleep outside." |

I smiled, looking back at Alphonse and winked at him. "Sorry sweets. I guess you knew all the time huh? And you never told Edward? What kind of brother are yah?" I joked. Shaking my head I grinned, entering the gate of the yeard of the Rockbell residence. Winry watched like a hawk from the window upstairs, seeing to be waiting for his return. I went to the far side of the yard and clapped, and transmuted the ground into a tent; a rather nice one, since there was grass to work with here. "Goodnight boys. If you need me for anything, I'll be out here." I knelt and clapped agian, creating a chair and sat down, reclined it and looked up at the dark purple star-scattered sky. |

Alphonse chuckled. "What point would there have been in that...he never listens to me anyway." Edward, who had trailed behind the two of them all the way home, now glanced up to Winry's window. She didn't look happy to see any of them, much less Shiba or him. Geeze..looks like it's time for that long talk I promised her. He thought as he scratched his head. Wonder what she's going to throw at me this time. |

"Youre right about that" I chuckled. I closed my eyes and looked to Edward, who seemed to be in a daze. "Yah better get up there before she throws more tools at you." Winry, up in he room moved away from the window and looked aorund her room. She quickly made her bad and shoved all the tools she had laying all over the floor under the bed, along with the rest of it. She put the photo of the three of them back up on the bulletin board, along with the drawings for his automail plans. Sighing, she sat on her bed and just waited... it was up to him or not to come up here and talk or not; she knew she wanted to spend time with her... |

"Huh? Oh yeah..." He waved goodnight and slowly walked into the house, Alphonse waiting outside. "You know...you shouldn't sell yourself short Shiba...Ed...really likes you." He looked up at the lit window and then shook his head as he went inside. Edward climbed the stairs up, and up till he reached Winry's door..he sighed and knocked twice before turning the knob. "Winry? I'm back...Shiba's fine..so...so I guess we can have that talk now." |

I glanced over at Al and closed my eyes. "If someone loved him for that long, who am I to interfere?" I sighed, keeping my eyes closed, I clapped and created a chair for Al to sit in beside me. "Besides.... he may love her, and not even realize it, yah know?" I said softly. [im gonna talk Winry as first person... ill change the color for her] I looked up as he entered and I smiled at him wearily and slide over, for him to have room to sit down beside me on the bed. "I missed you, Edward." I hid my eyes under my blond bands; the anger filling inside me was more than i could bear, knowing he loved someone else he just met... made my blood boil. |

Alphonse turned back when he saw the light of a transmutation. "..." He moved beside Shiba and sat down. "Shiba...that...'old friend' back there....that was Scar wasn't it?" He leaned forward and hugged his knees to his chest. "Take it from their example...if you wait too long...it may be too late..for once...why not worry about your own happiness?" "I-I know Winry...I missed you too....it's been a while since me and Al came back here hasn't it? What? Two years?" He scratched his head as he stood in the doorway...this was probably more uncomfortable than seeing the Colonel in his jammies...oh Winry would have a feild day with that wouldn't she? |

I nodded. "He's lonely without Kiri nagging him, I feel bad for him." I sighed and looked over at him. I shook my head. "Edwards happiness means more to me than my own. If he'll be happier with her, so be it. I'm behind him 100%. besides, he'll only leave me again when Roy decides to pull the slack from the leash he's on. Its only a matter of time." I stood and walked up to him quickly and hugged him, burying my face into his blond hair. "Edward... since.. you don't have automail anymore, does that mean you dont need me anymore..?" I muffled into his hair. Tears ran down my cheeks...I dont know why, they did... happiness? Anger? Fear of him leaving again? Not sure. I just... didnt want to let him go. |

Alphonse smiled. "I suppose anyone would be lonely without having their shadow around." He sighed. "Even so, Shiba, it's your life, fight for something, else you're only going to let anything and everything slip right by you. Edward brought you here, so that you could meet our family...and see what it was like, and if you wanted to stay here....and if you don't care about any of that...then it'll kill him." "WINRY!?" Edward said with a slight jerk. Her touch had surprised him...for once, she didn't throw anything. "No, that's not it at all! Winry..." He looked off to the side and sighed. "I'll always need you....you left a light burning for me...you're the only home I have, you and Granny." |
I nodded looking over at him
"Now, he has noone again....so he came to talk with me." I closed my eyes again and turned away from him. "Alphonse...I love Edward, but I feel like I dont deserve him. I feel fortunate to have met the both of you... for that, i'm grateful enough. My life... is my art, owning my own land, and one day having a family, if life and love permits. I will achieve my goal, with or without Edward. The love in our relationship is still young; he could easily fall out of love with me any any given moment, and I wouldn't blame him for it. Winry has been waiting all these years for him.. its my job to step aside and let him choose for himself. If he chooses me, or her, Ill be happy for him either way because he's become a man." I truly meant whatI had said, and had no bit of sadness or remorse in my mind or voice. I let him go and stepped back a bit and looked him over. "You got taller...I had to stand on my tip toes to get to the top of your head this time." I said though tears, smiling a bit. "But...is that all I'll ever be? A burning light in a window for you and Al for when you decide to visit when youre hungry? Don't... DONT I MEAN ANYTHING TO YOU, at all?" Again, I lowered my head and looked the the floor. |

"I wonder, if you two didn't need each other." Alphonse smiled and mused over that thought a moment, and then looked back. "What I mean is...maybe you two are more alike than anyone, you're both lonely, and not willing to admit things, or allow yourselves to find peace. You're hurting yourself, watching all this between Edward and Winry, and yet you won't say anything, you won't allow yourself to want anything." "Winry!" Edward started as she blew up at him. "Why are you doing this!? I don't understand if you don't tell me! SHIBA had to explain what I guess I didn't see before, but I have to wonder why you didn't say anything to me before now! Winry...if...if you liked me..." Here he trailed off and blushed profusely, turning his own gaze to the floor, hoping that he wouldn't have to meet her stare. |

I sighed, closing my eyes. "I dont see Edward as being lonley... he has you. And yes, it will hurt when I lose him, but I dont ever wish anyones unhappiness for my own happiness. Ill always want him... but if I can't have him, so be it. Like I always hear...'life sucks, then you die.' Thats just how it is." I yawned. "Why am I doing this? You should have figured it out by now, all these years...and now that you found someone else, I have no choice but to tell you my true feelings... I thought I had all the time in the world, but I guess... I was wrong. I thought you would have been smart enough to figure it out by now... that... I LOVE YOU, EDWARD ELRIC!" I yelled, looking at him; his eyes were hidden. I placed my hand under his chin to look at my tearing eyes. "I've... always loved you... Ive always wanted to be with you, and longed for you to look at me the way you look at her... Ive longed to be in your embrace... human arms or not... Ive always been there for you, and always gave you hints... why...can't I get those feeling returned?" I sobbed harder, tears streaming down my cheeks. |

Alphonse smiled and looked sideways at the sky, his head on his knees. "I meant you and Scar." He put simply. "Ed's never going be alone, there's always going to be something there that will dull the edge of whatever he's feeling, but I wonder...how long it will last?" Edward now backed up a few paces, he hadn't expected it to hit him this hard...there was no place that he could hide, and he found himself facing a very scary word that had hounded him ever since East City....Love "Winry....I...I.....I need to think...sorry." With that he turned and pounded out of the room, finding no escape but to run. Enemies he could handle with a swift kick or punch...but this crying girl...was a completely diffrent matter. "Ed? Ed Where are you going!?" Al called as his brother raced out of the house. "What got into him?" |

"Oh, well, I have you to talk to about things about Edward I guess, but I have noone to...'squee' about him with, I guess." I laughed, thinking back on memories of me and Kiri in the bath talking about how cute he was. "Edward..." She stayed and just watched him run out of her room and down the hall. She fell to her knees and buried her face in her hands. "I knew this would happen..." Hearing the door slam open, I opened my eyes quickly to see Edward running as fast as he could away. I decided to let him be. "Winry just confessed his love to him. Isn't it obvious? Now he's lost and confused and he's not sure what to do." I rolled over onto my side, closing my eyes and reclining he chair so it was flat. "Ill leave him alone to think." |

Edward didn't stop for his brother, he didn't even hear when Pinako called after him as he hit the bottom of the stair. There was too much going on his mind to sort through it all in that house...and where the duce was ROY when he needed him! Honestly, with all the women that that man juggled, he should be an expert on this by now....Edward should write a book... 'how to screw up your love life...two different ways' "You think?" Alphonse looked after Edward as he slowly dissapeared into the dark...wondering if what he was seeing was the start of his breakdown. |

"Yeah, Its only a matter of time before he A. Runs away, or B. Breaks up with me and goes with her or C. Declines both of us and goes back to the military to work full time, in the blue dog uniform and all." I yawned. "You should go after him and talk to him." In a long, black over coat and his hat haning over his eyes, He glanced at the boy who ran past him and only smiled, taking off his hat. "I knew things were gonna stir...oh why me?" He asked himself, running a gloved hand though his sleek black hair, and he about-faced and walked after the still pacing Edward. |

"Oh, OH Right!" Alphonse jumped up out of the chair and took off down the road, his feet thumping along the ground, would Edward really do one of those things? Would he really give up on Shiba to go with Winry? Or give up on both of them in order to return to the military? No, that didn't seem like Ed, he was far too stubborn to give up even when faced with terrible situations...but then again...most of those, he thought ruefully, never involved GIRLS. "Oh dear..." Pinako said wiping her hands on her apron. "Those boys never will change will they?" She smiled at Shiba and chuckled in her smoke laden voice. "Food's ready, it's stew." |

"Oh Edward, you know that Ive always loved you!" ... Ed runs away. "WHY MEEE!!!~~~"] I kept my eyes closed as Al made his run after him. I only sighed. "I hope youre happy in the end, Edward..." i muttered to myself. There was a silence for a few minutes until Pinako broke it. I sat up quickly, kind of startled. "Oh, I dont think they'll ever change either." I sent her a sheepish grin and scratched my head. I nodded. "Thank you ma'am." I stood up and followed her inside, where all the bowls were set up, but only two were filled; mine and hers. "Uhm, Isn't Winry joining us?" I asked, sitting down. He kept his pace, and saw the younger brother run afetr as well. he stopped. 'Dammit.. Oh well." he kept on, placing his hat back on his head and walked on. |

Pinako sighed. "I don't know Sweetheart, she's been so moody lately, even before you all showed up...she gets like this at times when Ed's not here. If she gets hungry she'll come down, until then you can keep this old woman company, it's been a long time since we've had guests in this house." For a breif second Edward was afraid that Winry was thumping after him, but with a glance over his shoulder he found Alphonse there. "Al?" He breathed. "Who else?" "What are you doing out here?" A look was all he got. "Oh right...I ran out huh?" "You sure did, what was up with you anyway?" "Winry....she...she.." "She told you she loved you?" "How did--" "Shiba.""Geeze it's like that girl has a sixth sense about these things.""I think it's because she is a girl that gives her the edge in these situations." "Oh..right." |

Pinako set her spoon down and reached across the table to pat Shiba's hand.
"Well then, let Edward think things through, he'll come to the conclusion that he needs to, to rectify the situation. Hearts break and tears are shed, but life will go on Sweetheart, life will go on." "HOLY--COLONEL!" "Oh! Colonel, what are you doing here?" Both boys turned, but Edward found his hand grasped tightly onto his shirt....right over his heart. "KILL ME NEXT TIME WILL YA!?" |
I glanced from the hand up to the old womans face and I smiled wearily back to her.
"I know, I'm quite used to drama like this. I go to an all girls college; it happens left and right constantly." I looked down at the bowl. "I cannot thank you enough for this wonderful meal. I only wish the others were here to enjoy it." I took another bite of the soup. "Yeo. How's it goin'?" He smiled warmly and looked around. "isn't it kinda dark and late for you two to be running around for no apparent reason?" He asked, folding his arms. The moon shone brightly above them, and he looked somewhat noble, having come after him to talk. |
The old woman just laughed.
"It's just stew, it's nothing special or fancy, but it does warm the blood, Heaven knows, a little old lady like me needs the heat." ((Like me right about now...*Shivers*)) "I'm not out here without reason.." Edward said defensivly. "I'm out here...to...to...""Winry told him she loved him and he bolted." "Alphonse..." Behind his brother's head, Edward was making strangling gestures. "I'm going to kill you." |
"Its a nice summer's night outside this evening. You can see the stars so clearly out here." I sipped more.
He laughed. "Ahh, women issues. Alphonse...you should head home, and leave this to me. I'll drag him home when I'm done my long talk with him." He walked up beside Edward and put his arm over his shoulder. "C'mon, lets go by the lake and you can tell me all about it." he said seriously. He was hoping he would become a good friend of Edwards, he was already a good alli[sp?], why not become friends? he led the walk. "So... who loved you first?" he asked flat out. He'd kept his gaze forward; he knew talking about this was embarrassing, so he knew better. |
"MM...it's good pipe weather." Pinako smiled, thinking back on her younger days, when her eyes wern't quite as dim, and her lungs not quite as blackened with tar....oh those were the days....yes, those were the days, and those are the days that her children were living in...no matter what they thought, those who entered into the Rockbell household, became as family, and though it pained her to see her kids so troubled, Pinako was sure that things would work out...if just given time.
"Wha--How the heck should I know!" "He doesn't pay any attention." "Shut up! I do so....to some things....well...lemme think.." Edward mumbled a few moments to himself and then looked back to the Colonel...and his blasted smug face. "Winry said that she'd been dropping hints...but I can't remember any....Geeze...she just blew up at me too...." |
