Story;
Mermaids and mermen live in their humble city of Bastian, though the laws are strict very few are unhappy with the royal family. Though, there is an evil merman, Pathius that lives outside the city and has banded together a group of rebel sharks to help overrun the royal family and become king. He was the third of Bastian Perami, band from the city when he was found taking dark magic lessons from a soothsayer in town. The soothsayer was killed, but Bastian did not have the heart to kill his own middle son. When he was banished, Pathius vowed that he would take over the city and that’s when he began to form is army of creatures that hated mermen/maids. Pathius’ brothers, Percius (eldest) and Lottick (youngest) rule the city their father had established together and try to protect their citizens from any harm. Together they have formed a royal guard that patrols and protects the city. Percius and Lottick have many sons and daughters themselves and several wives apiece. The weapons of the guards include tridents, which the brothers had enchanted by the royal witch, Justine. Usually, when an attack is not taking place, there is much hustle and bustle going on in the city. Using sand dollars as currency, the market place is full of hagglers and people trying to make a living.

Setting;
"Welcome to the Bastian, city under the sea!" a sign reads just outside this rather large city. The city is named after the original merman of the royal family, Bastian Perami

The Palace: The palace is just like every other building in the city, is made of reefs. Within, the royal family of Perami lives. It is the center of the town and the inside has over thirty rooms, a grand ballroom, two dining rooms, and a place for smaller groups of people to eat together. Being the tallest building in the town, the only actual sunlight is on top where builders have fastened a sort of deck on the roof for the royal family to sun bathe. There are several large mirrored bathrooms and all of it is made from the finest reefs sand dollars can buy. The basement of the palace is nothing but dungeons with guards patrolling the halls.

The Business District Surrounding the palace are several business, farmers (of a sort) selling food they harvested, merchants selling clothes they have made and much more. This also includes all recreational activities such as dolphin racing, plays and the like. Within the merchants area is the city baths, a hot-water vent had opened up in this area and the royal family built a seating area around it so that people could warm their fins. The schools are also in the business district.

The Middle Class District Surrounding the shops is the residential homes, where middle-class families live. Here would be where the farmers have their farms, the shops of the merchants and the whale ((bus)) station are in this area. The whale station is the safest way to get from one city to outside the city limits where some of the larger farms and other small villages are located.

The Slums The slums are where the thieves, bums and folks who are "down on their luck" live. The coral houses are much smaller and some don’t even have houses, they live in small caves that they have found.

Since there is no electricity within the city, glowing rocks attached to staffs are the only source of light. The glowing rocks are utilized in many ways. Outside of the slums is the open sea, which is a dangerous place for those who travel there, as it is filled with Pathius’ shark army and other creatures who just, in general, hate the merpeople.

=Mark your OOC somehow.
=All sharks will be NPC, so everyone can control them.
=PM me your profiles and I will put them up.

=Please don’t use Ariel as a name, PLEASE.
=You’re allowed a character in each of the districts, except the business district (i.e. royal family, middle-class, slums).
=You can have two companions per character. A companion being some kind of sea creature, of your choice, as long as it is on the list of creatures you cannot have. *See below.
=Please be somewhat literate. I don’t care if you can’t spell but PLEASE do not post like a sentence that’s not descriptive such as: “I drop my book and the pages open up to show some drawings I have done.”
=If you're having trouble with finding mer-pictures, you can use one of a human and eveyone will know to take off the clothes (sort of) and add a tail.

*Creatures that cannot be companions include: Sharks, sea urchins, eels, squids, octopi (octopuses sounded funny. >.>), whales and dolphins (they’re like a source of transportation), sting rays and other icky animals that I don’t like. Killer whales will NOT be transportation, they will be part of Pathius’ army. PM me some suggestion of creatures that would hate mermaids?

If you’re interested in any of the following roles, let me know:
Person running the dolphin races (will post when a race has started and decide the winner)
Pathius (who will post when an attack is taking place), Percius, Lottick or Justine. (If not, these will become NPC )
Head of the royal guard = Everstar

A sort of commanding voice when things need such, the male rose quickly through the ranks of the Royal guard. Natural charisma and a strong will aid him in leading troops into battle…The male is very strong willed, loyal, and jealous even…He is emotionally attached to a certain someone, and tends to lose himself when they’re…flirted with. ((For now, the brothers and whatnot will be NPC.))

Sally sat on top of the palace, her long, green tailed spread out as far as it would reach. Her pale skin felt warm from the midday sun that just barely reached the top of the palace and she was happy. She rolled over onto her back, her hair lifting towards the surface, not nearly long enough to reach. She sighed deepily as she looked over to Matty "Don't you just love the feel of the sun on your fins?" She asked and smiled a little as the little brown sea horses nodded

"I s'pose so, miss, but I'd prefer if we could go back inside and get some food." He said, hinting at his sudden need for food. Matty had always called Sally miss. Even though her father had given him as a gift for her to abuse, she never did. She was very loving but out of respect for her royal status he always called her miss.

Sally laughed as she pushed her self off of the roof, and began to wave her tail and move towards the entrance to the palace "If you're that hungry, Matty, we can go inside to eat." She said and laughed again as the small seahorse struggled to keep up with the strides Sally made with her tail. Her long hair floated wildly behind her but her tiara, made from abandoned shells and a few star fish, never budged. She wore a bustiere of seaweed across her chest and had on several pieces of jewlery made from the finest pearls that sand dollars could buy.

"Well, miss, I'm glad you finally agree." Matty said with a small noise that sounded like a sneeze, which was obviously his laugh.

"I never said I was hungry," Sally replied, "But you're such a whiner I figured I'd better oblidge you before you drown yourself in anxiety." She teased, Matty was her long term friend and she loved him to pieces but he was such an active creature that he was always hungry.

Aruru lurked near a shop. The merchant was currently conversing with a customer. She had been inching closer the last few minutes trying to get close enough to grab something. Her silver colored hair blended in well with the cloth around the booth for the merchant. He turned away and Aruru snatched a piece of food as he turned back around. Her eyes widened as he yelled at her alerting any gaurds that were around. Aruru quickly turned and swan away from there.

Trevor sat inside what he called home, which was really more of a cave than anything else. He was debating whether or not it was time for him to get up and get some food. Stretching, he floated out of his bed and tapped on Lollers' shell. "You feeling a bit hungry?" He asked the sea turtle.

Yawning, Lollers head slowly extended from his shell. "Well, yes, I am," he said as he extended his legs out as well. Trevor had found Lollers when they were both quiet young, Lollers had been abandoned by his family and Trevor decided to keep him around. They were good friends and Lollers was the only person that Trevor would ever trust.

"Well, let's head out that way and find ourselves some food." And by "find," Lollers knew Trevor meant steal. Or maybe, this time, they'd just mug some stranger and pay for their food. Having both of them grow up around this, they saw no harm. One must do what one must to stay alive. As the swam out of the cave, Lollers trailing behind Trevor, they noticed that there wasn't the usual hustle in the Slums.

"I wonder if everyone else thought it was lunch time," Trevor thought out loud and laughed a little.

"Either that or the guards were in this area again." Lollers said. "Speaking of which..." he said as a guard swam past and paused only for a moment to ask the pair where they were headed.

"Just out for a mornin' stroll," Trevor said sarcastically.

Aruru turned the corner pressing herself against a building as two gaurds swam by. Breathing a sigh for the moment she had avoided capture. She looked down at the small sea fruit she had nabbed. It wasn't much but at least it was something. Sometimes she questioned how in the world she had managed to do this most of her life.
"There you are!" Cried a gaurd spotting her when he turned around. Aruru gasped and quickly swam down the alley into another street.

Lollers had been wrong on both accounts. Seeing as Trevor ran an illegal gambling chain on the dolphin races, the shop owner of the sea fruit shop owed him some money and Trevor and Lollers ate for free that morning, munching slowly and happily.

That was until the head guard of the royal guard spotted him. They knew he was the head of the gambling chain and they planned to throw him into the dungeoun to rot for a couple of months. Trevor would not allow this, and attempted to duck the guards by swimming down into the public baths, which were severely crowded.

"We're so going to jail," Lollers said unhappily as they tried to find a way to hide themselves within the groups of people already sitting around the heat vent that was the public bath.

"Don't be so negative," Trevor said, only to have himself pulled out of the group of people the minute he said it. "Hi." He said, smiling sweetly to the guard who had nabbed him. Trevor knew what was coming next as he was placed into a pair of handcuffs fashioned from cartiledge of former sharks. Lollers himself was thrown into a small cage, seeing as he was not quite his adult size and carried along by another guard.

Myri simply let Gizelle play around, swimming in circles while the girl watched. Idly, she attemtped a spell on her bed to make it smoother. Half of the furniture compied, the other half ignored her. From the other room, she heard Gizelle giggle. "Keep practicing."

Myri sighed, blue tail hitting the water annoyed. " Oh please. Like I do anything else." she murmured. Long blue hair whisked around her tail. It was a big no-no for her to cut her hair...Why, she didn't know...Still, she smiled with delight as she came forward and gave the angelfish a hug. "Oooo, Gizelle~"

Commotion was heart outside. Was Balint getting in trouble again? She moved to her window to find out, to see what would appear to her eyes.

"Aren't you done yet?" Sally groaned as Matty finished his, what felt like, sixth serving of seaweed wrapped sea fruits. "I want to go shopping" she exclaimed as the sea horse shook his head.

"I'm almost done, miss," Matty said with his mouth still full, so the words were a bit muffled. After swallowing his bite he mumbled "Don't you have enough clothes?" He shook his head. Spoiled, this girl was.

Sally giggled at this and shook her head "You can never have enough!" She exclaimed as she swam around the table, "I'd really like to get going before the afternoon rush, though" she mentioned pausing at the other side of the table "All the stuff in my size is gone by then." She laughed again, as she knew Matty had no idea what she was talking about. As the seahorse swam from the table, Sally followed it out.

Long blue hair moved with the water as she sighed. Trouble indeed. She didn't need stairs or halways. She simply pushed out of her window, swimming down to the commotion below.

"What's going on here?"

She picked out the face of soemone she was delighted to see, but held in such delighted emotions, looking as stern as someone who was as childish as her could look.

((Nina, your signature is REALLY oversized and normally it wouldn't bother me, but it's taking up a lot of the page and that bothers me. Can I ask if you'd put it in as a link or find a way to shorten it?))

"Can this be considered racial profiling?" He asked to the stone-faced guards, who he knew wouldn't say anything. They were practically dragging him along, considering Trevor would not make any move to help them take him into the dungeons...again. As a matter of fact, he tried his hardest to pull against them, though it was to no avail, the first time he'd done it, it had worked. "Hey Lollers," he hollered "You okay?" when a few moments had passed he shrugged, he probably retreated into his shell or something. Trevor looked from the guards' faces and none of them even seemed excited that they had him in cuffs. "Well, you've caught me, it was I that peed in the public baths," he tried to joke again. He was never one to fret over these situations, he was in them so frequently that they had ceased to bother him.

“Racial profiling? Hardly.” An affront to the royal family…there were things within the law, and things without. Gambling was outside of the law, and that was clear fact. As such, Balint had a duty to uphold, the male arriving in the garb befitting his job. A bit of a prodding by a subordinate who was assisting him at the moment, who had prodded the prisoner beforehand.

“Mister Andrews. You have been convicted not of…peeing in the public baths, but of not only partaking in gambling, as what is against the rules of our kingdom, but running a gambling ring, thus enabling others to break our sacred laws as well. As such, it is my duty to incarcerate you, for the duration of your sentence. Your…friend…will be held prisoner as well until you both have paid your debt to the kingdom.”

A bit of a sigh, not in the sense that the male didn’t want to uphold these laws…heavens no, he did, but that people broke them. It was…disheartening to know the public wished to break the code they were all to live by, but not just that. There was more to it, but Balint was pulled from his thoughts to turn to the female coming, bowing quickly as did the Guard with Trevor in custody, pushing at the male’s back to get him to bow as well.

“Milady.” Softly spoken words…how long had it been since he had seen her last? Too long, by any means…”We have nothing more then another lawbreaker on our hands, Lady Myri.” The male smiled softly, rising from his bow, “We will have him put away in no time at all. There’s nothing to worry about.” Of course there wasn’t…Balint did his job to the best of his ability…Well, for Myri there’d be absolutely nothing to worry about…or Balint would not be the happiest person…

"You got me there, can't argue with the big boss, can I?" Trevor laughed and then said "Take me away." He really wasn't in the least bit sorry for his behaivor. He'd grown up in the slums and they were a part of him now. Also, he'd been in jail many times before, and it was better than his cave, in his opinion. He peered up from his bow as the other guard thrushed him down and smiled. "Sorry for the interuption," he smiled innocently "They don't look kindly on a man trying to make a living." He said and looked from her and the head of guard. "Alright, officer, I'm ready. Take me away." He exclaimed, almost happily.

((I totally just realized that I'm not even sure how a merperson would pee...))

Sally's hair flew behind her as she swam hurriedly towards the shops. She really didn't know why she was rushing, but it seemed urgent that she be there right away. "Come on, Matty," she exclaimed as the seahorse fell behind. She sighed as her escorts paused to wait for the small creature to catch up, meaning she had to stop too. "You don't have to wait for piggy." She explained as she grew more impatient. Sally was rather self-centered and wanted everything to go her way, and right now, it wasn't. When things didn't go her way she turned into a teenager again and made a huge fuss over nothing. But that's what palace life would do to someone.

Blane Aurora could be summed up in three words: smiley, mysterious, and kind. Pushing white hair away from his face, smiling, talking; he was letting people discover the trio of personality traits. Closing his fist around a good amount of currency, he handed a fellow merman the products he asked for. As he waved the customer on, Blane's smile grew larger as he finally checked over the amount of 'money' he'd actually gotten. Kind-hearted or not, he needed this stuff to live! He placed his profit into a pouch that seemed to be attached to his waist, tightening the opening so it wouldn't float away on him like it had done in the past. Stupid? Yeah, pretty much.

As the midday rush dissipated before his eyes, Blane stretched with a large, satisfied sigh. Today was going well, and for that he was glad. Crossing his arms at his chest, the merman looked down at his small, but adequate, market. With a proud smirk, he gathered the items in a large sack, tying it securely. He'd come back later, of course, but he felt as if he deserved a break. With both pale hands, Blane lugged his large load home.

Returning to the bustling market place, the turquoise-tailed man swam through the center. He was nodding to and waving at people left and right; greeting people and being greeted. He loved the company, but sometimes he wished he could just have a nice swim through the marketplace without having to remember names and faces. Sooner than later, though, he was cut a break, swimming around and playing with the kin of the town.

"Know anyone older I could bond with, kids?" he asked with a smile. They, of course, didn't acknowledge his question and continued chasing him with random objects. He hoped to Neptune someone would come to his rescue.

Myri gave Balint the most comofrting and condescending glance she could muster. She recognized the prisoner, sighing and shaking her head. "You sure spend a lot of time here..."

She cast a glance at the turtle however and visbly softened. "I doubt there is any reason to hold the poor turtle captive in those dreary cells. May I request that the creature be allowed stay in my chambers?"

A simple question, directed to the turtle, the prisoner, and Balint at the same time. It had been too long indeed...

And Balint questioned what the condescending part of the glance was for. In any case, as the prisoner spoke, the male listened with a sigh. Again, there were things within the law, and without…”Trevor, if I remember correctly. I’d be able to look much, much kinder if you made your living inside the law. I don’t understand what’s preventing you from leading an honest life…but judging by the number of times we have on record of locking you away, it appears to me there’s a need for a change somewhere along the line.”

With a pause, he added, “And the laws are not going to change.” Which left it on the prisoner to conform to the standards. To live within the kingdom there were certain possibilities you had to forfeit, those being what the laws covered, for the good of the kingdom, and for yourself. They helped, entirely, to keep everyone safe, so the prospect of someone not wanting to abide by them? Completely outside Balint’s comprehension.

“Lady Myri…” The male paused once more in thought, at her request this time, and figured it out, “While liable as an accomplice to the crimes committed…I suppose it would not be too much to ask for such. As you wish, Lady Myri.” As long as things stayed within the law, Balint was rather flexible…there was the only exception…that, and the fact that what Myri wanted, Balint tried his best to ensure happened. “I trust there are no complaints, Mister Andrews? Surely we could come to some agreement.”

“Mister Andrews, I ask that you take my words to heart. I would much rather see our citizens outside of prison then inside, you included.” With that, the male sighed a bit, waiting on the prisoner’s reply to Lady Myri’s question before he would be whisked away.

Trevor didn't reply to the comment about abiding the law. He knew he had no other way of making money except by stealing and by gambling. Having grown up on his own, he had no trade such as jewlery making or farming passed down to him. He learned to survive the only way he could.

"Well, officer," Trevor said "I suppose it'd be okay." He replied and nodded. One less stop to make anyway... he thought to himself with a smile. "As long as he's alright with it." Trevor added and reached out to tap on the cage "Hey Lollers, want to come to jail or would you rather stay with this pretty young lady?" He said, he knew Lollers would reply with the young lady, but he had to ask for the turtle's sake.

"That's a foolish question, Trev." Lollers replied as he slowly extended his head from his shell again, "I'd like to stay with the lady." He knew he wouldn't be staying there for very long, anyway.

"Alright then," Trevor laughed, "Take me away."

Myri gave a little laugh. "Mister Andrews, I'd take you with me too, but I think the head of the guard might have a complaint to that..." She gave him a bow. "I'll take good care of him, rest assured..

Creatures didn't deserve a cell..or a cage for that matter... Gizelle swam down, she was about 50% bigger than the average angel fish.. as she came down she slipped inside the bars on the turtle's cage. "Hiya. I'm Gizelle..."

Myri gave a smile, and gave a bow to Balint, and a secret smile to him before she took the cage gently from the merman (Boas was it?)holding it. The condescending part? it had to do with her station... She was expected to be more austere than she really was..and the only way for someone as light hearted as Myri to be austere is to fake a condescending expression.. Sad, huh?

"So...your name is Lollers?" She murmured quietly. Truely, this girl couldn't stand the dungeon, and she would love to just keep all the prisoners upstairs in her quarters. Regrettably, she couldn't swing that.. she could however, save their companions...

Balint had to pause a bit. A tinge of anger of course had risen from the mere comment of taking the prisoner with her, but it wasn’t anger…it was jealousy, and Balint could be a very violent jealous person. In either case, he calmed himself, keeping appearances in public as there wasn’t anything overt… “I would, while the dungeons may not be the best quarters to stay in, they are the quarters for those whom break the law. It’s meant to be punishment.” That last bit was a small hint to Myri…

She couldn’t keep them all, they were supposed to be being punished, not enjoying themselves under Myri’s care…Boas it was, was about to open said cage anyway, but let the Lady take it instead, pulling on the cuffs a bit tighter to restrain the male while the Lady took her leave. A bow in return for hers from Balint, coupled with a soft, hidden smile in return, and the captain of the guard held the position.

“A good day to you, Lady Myri. I ask that you return to the palace, however…at least for the moment until we can remove the prisoner from the area.”

It was always safer –away- from the law-breakers…which was what Balint was considering. Myri’s safety came first and foremost. The guard with the Captain merely held the prisoner still until the Lady was safe…or away, or whatever she was going to do. He didn’t move until Balint gave the order.

Myri gave him half a sigh at his hinting. True, she held a lot more compassion wise than Balint did. Perhaps this was their only point of conflict. But it hardly mattered. With one more half pitying glance to the prisoner she gave Balint a nod.

"Of course..."

She swam upward, up to her quarters again, swimming into her balcony and setting the cage down. She drew the heavy seaweed curtains (fortified byher mother as well as herself- this was to keep their magic from exscaping, but it worked for other purposes as well) closed and then opened the cage.

"Please, come out. I won't keep you in that stuffy half hearted box..." Gizelle giggled and swam a few loopdiloops before burying herself into Myri's hair. The mermaid giggled.
