Shifting so that she curled into his side, Emelaide smiled as she placed a long, tender kiss upon his neck, "I very much doubt you would make me sleep upon that hard floor. Imagine how your children would view you if you did," she added teasingly with a light nibble on his neck.
Looking down at the magazine, Emelaide pointed to one on the page, "I like that one." Above her finger was a light oak framed four poster king sized bed, very antique and elegant in it's fluer de lis and sea shell design with a canopy. "What do you think?" |
"I think its perfect." Marreck said as he lifted the magazine and looked over the bed. "And I need to order it as soon as possible if you want it here by tonight." He reminded his fiancee. "Is there anything else you'd like me to order now?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Hmm, why don't you order the cradle we were looking at as well -- the one with the begonias? We can at least get that order placed so we have one less thing to worry about," Emelaide said with a warm smile. "And why don't you look at bedding? Something light and reminiscent of back home," Emelaide added with a light kiss on Marreck's lips.
"Sounds good, love." Marreck sighed as he rested his chin in his fiancee's hair to look around the barren home. "I am very excited to start this life with you, Emelaide." He said softly, as if speaking to himself. "I love you and I hope to spend every day of forever proving that to you." He finished before giving her head a last kiss and standing up from the couch. "I'll be back soon though I should stop at the market for some groceries. Otherwise we won't be eating tonight. Any requests?" He asked as he tucked the magazine under his arm.
"Mmmm," came from Emelaide's lips as she stretched a tad. Resting her head against the back of the couch, Emelaide smiled as she caressed her abdomen, which she could feel beginning to bulge. "Raspberries, blackberries, red grapes, oranges, ice-cream, and a large variety of donuts," Emelaide rattled off with a laugh, "And maybe some pasta for dinner?"
Marreck chuckled as he reached for his coat. "Alright, Em. I'll be home soon. Don't get into too much trouble." He teased before waltzing out the door and making his way ot the furniture store. The elderly elf behind the desk assured that the bed would be delivered that evening however the crib wouldn't be available until the next day.
With his furniture purchases behind him, Marreck walked to the unfamiliar market and took twice as long as he would've back home shopping as he kept confusing the stalls. With all of Emelaide's cravings in hand, Marreck picked up the ingredients for a simple pasta dish along with a few things for breakfast the next morning. Marreck's arms were laden with bags and eventually he began the trek back to his home with Emelaide. |
As Emelaide rested upon the couch, she was soon taken over by sleep from all the excitement that had passed that day. That is, until there was a large crash outside her door.
Jarred awake, Emelaide looked around in a daze, wondering what had awoken her. Her answer wasn't long to follow her inquiry because before long she heard a groan from outside the front door. Thinking it was Marreck, Emelaide fought through her pain and moved herself into the wheel chair. Hurrying as fast as she could, Emelaide sleepily wheeled her chair to the door and opened it. "Marre-? Oh.. You're not Marreck," Emelaide said lamely to the man laying before her on her door step, looking rather dazed and confused as he peered back up at her. "Are you alright? What happened?" Emelaide asked softly as she looked at him, feeling rather helpless that she could not help him stand. |
Marreck paused en route to his new home having spotted a small doll hanging from the side of a vendor's stall. It was simply made with silver strands of hair and bright blue eyes. "Like what you see?" The winter elf behind the counter asked as Marreck shook his head. It would be perfect for his soon to be daughter. "My wife made it, so many years of making toys for our daughter now she's all grown up but that hasn't stopped my wife." The elf joked.
"It'd be perfect for my daughter." Marreck smiled, loving the way it sounded when he said it. "I'll take it." He decided on a whim as he exchanged money with the vendor and tucked the doll into his grocery bag before continuing on to home. |
"I-I'm fine.. I'm sorry to have broken your vase," the man said weakly as he gestured to the broken pottery beneath and beside him. Rubbing his head, the man sighed as he tried to sit up. "Do you... Would you.. Never mind.. Forget it.."
"Sir, please. You don't look well. Come inside and rest a bit," Emelaide said worriedly, afraid this man may end up dying on her step. "No, no. That's quit alright." "I insist," said Emelaide as she wheeled her chair back so that the man could come through. As he slowly got up, wobbling and swaying, whether from the fall or from something else Emelaide couldn't quite tell, the man followed Emelaide inside and sat down on the couch. "Sir, can you please tell me what happened to you?" Emelaide inquired as she looked at the man cautiously, trying to asses if he were hurt badly or not. |
"I'm back Em." Marreck called as he opened the door to their home, heading straight to the kitchen and setting the groceries on the counter and grabbing the doll before heading towards the living room. "Darling, I found a-" Marreck stopped suddenly as he saw the man on his couch and knelt down beside his wife. "Hello." He said warily before looking over to Emelaide.
Emelaide smiled as she took his hand and placed a tender kiss upon his lips in greeting, "Welcome home darling. This man collapsed outside our door.. I didn't know what else to do so I asked him to come in and rest a bit. He was just about to explain what happened."
"Forgive me Sir, I do not mean to intrude and worry you. I will be alright shortly.. I just.. I've lost my home.. It burned in a fire.. i couldn't stay in my town along the border.. It was too much of a remembrance.. You see, my mother died in that fire.. I left without thinking, really.. I didn't even pack any food.." the man added with a sigh. "Oh you poor dear.. I am so sorry to hear about your mother, and your home. Marreck, we can't let him leave like this.." Emelaide added softly as she looked at her fiancee. |
"Of course not, Em." Marreck agreed though he was still a bit worried about having a strange man in his house. Perhaps he was just being overprotective of Emelaide but Marreck stood still. "I was about to make supper, I hope you like pasta carbonara." Marreck asked the man on his couch, subtly tucking the doll away in his pocket for a later time.
"Yes, yes, anything is fine. Thank you so much for your kindness, both of you," the man said softly.
Emelaide smiled, "You are very welcome, Mr...?" "Gholdridge. Jessi Gholdridge," the man replied. "My name is Emelaide, and this is my fiancee Marreck. It is a pleasure to meet you," Emelaide said with a warm smile before turning her chair and beginning towards the kitchen. |
"Make yourself at home." Marreck said politely before disappearing to the kitchen as well and unpacking the groceries from their bags. "I found something for you." Marreck said to Emelaide when they were alone, pulling the doll out of his pocket. "Or rather for our daughter I suppose." He grinned sheepishly as he handed the doll to his fiancee before placing flour into a bowl and stirring in the eggs and kneading slightly before placing he mix aside to rest.
Emelaide grinned as her fingers lightly caressed the doll. "I love it," Emelaide murmured softly as she held the doll in her lap. "Are you angry with me? For letting him into our home without you here? I must admit, I thought it was you coming home and slipping on ice.. I didn't realize it was someone else until I had rushed to the door as fast as I could.."
"I'm not angry." Marreck assured his fiancee as he began making a sauce on their stove. "I promise, I'm just concerned about bringing a stranger into our home. Maybe I'm just being overprotective." He reasoned before moving over to Emelaide and giving her lips a quick peck.
Emelaide smiled as she rolled her chair towards the ice box. Grabbing a handful of berries, Emelaide sighed as she set the doll on the counter and began eating the berries. "Marreck? I'm sorry I cause you to worry so much.. I guess until our twins are safely here all I'll do is worry you," Emelaide said with a small smile. "I guess it's true... I really am weak and small in comparison to Ariala... I mean, look at her.. She's out running around building up her strength and magic, and here I am confined to a wheel chair until the pregnancy is over..."
"Ariala has never been one to be held down. Dimitrius would have to strap her to a wheelchair before she ever got in one." Marreck laughed quietly before he rolled the pasta into a sheet before cutting it into strands. "Your bodies react differently, Em. You can't help it. The only thing we can do is just take care of our babies." Marreck said as he dropped the pasta into boiling water and stirring it slightly before checking the sauce again.
"Yes, I suppose... But it still doesn't mean I like it.. I hate letting her show me up at every turn.. It's just not fair," Emelaide admitted with a small laugh as she finished her handful of berries and wiped her hands on the apron to her dress. "Is there anything I can do to help with dinner?"
"I'm just about done, love." Marreck smiled as he tossed together the drained pasta and the sauce. "If you want to set the table then we'll be all set." He said as he finished stirring the pasta and filling a bowl which he set ont he table and cutting up a small mix of vegetables for a salad.
Emelaide sighed as she went about setting the table. 'Of course he has everything nearly done... Heaven forbid I lift a finger..' Emelaide thought to herself as she sat in what would soon become her usual place setting and awaited dinner. "Mr. Gholdridge," Emelaide called into the living room, "Dinner is almost ready if you would like to freshen up in the bathroom. I am afraid there is not much at the moment, for we are still moving in and getting settled. But there should still be enough to get you feeling a bit more refreshed."
Marreck tossed the salad into a small bowl and set it beside the still steaming pasta on the table. "What would you like to drink, Em?" Marreck asked as he picked up three glasses, setting one on the table for their guest and filling up one with water for himself.
"Mmm, that berry drink you make," Emelaide said happily as she caressed her abdomen before adding with a laugh, "That handful of berries didn't satisfy our craving of fruit all that well."
-- Jessi sighed as he looked in the mirror, ashamed of himself for imposing upon this new couple. "Just one night, and you're gone. One night, that's it. You're not lying to them anymore. It's bad enough you lied about where you came from. Just one night, and you're gone," Jessi decided before freshening up a tad and heading out into the kitchen. "It smells delicious... Marreck, was it? You're quite the cook," Jessi said with a smile as he sat down at a place setting at the table. |
"Thank you." Marreck smiled at the man as he crushed up a mix of berries, adding them to Emelaide's cup and giving it to her. Marreck made his way to the table and sat at his own place before filling his plate and waiting for the others to do so.
~~~ "Dimitrius." Ariala sighed as she laid back on the grass completely worn out. "Its almost dinner time. Do you think we should head back?" She asked as she turned her head to face her husband. The afternoon of swimming and running had taken a toll on her young body and Ariala let herself rest into the grass around her. |
It wasn't long before Jessi had his plate piled high and he was scarfing it down as if he hadn't eaten in two weeks, which was honestly nearly the case.
Emelaide laughed softly as she looked at Jessi before sipping her juice. Placing a scoop of pasta onto her place, Emelaide began slowly eating the delicious food before her, afraid that if she ate too quickly she would get nauseous once more. "This really is delicious Marreck," Emelaide said with a grin as she continued to caress her abdomen. Turning towards Jessi, Emelaide inquired softly, "So, Mr. Gholdridge, how long have you been in Winterglade?" "Please, call me Jessi," Mr. Gholdridge said with a smile as he dabbed his mouth with a napkin, "And I've been here for about a week." --- "Eager to get back to Dimeria," Dimitrius teased as he placed light, feathery kisses upon his wife's neck and cheek. "But yes, if you wish to return home we may. Did you have fun today?" |
