"I'm sorry." Lucina frowned into Adrian's lips before giving them another kiss. "But you're right. I need to be more independent if I'm expected to help here. I can't be babyed all the time." She teased with a wink, her fingers grazing the back of his neck.
"Bu' I like babyin' ye," Adrian said with a wicked grin as he placed long, sweet kisses on her lips. "'n' ye don' 'ave t' apologize, love, 'tis no' yer fault she's been in a miser'ble mood. Ye didn' help, bu' 'tis no' yer fault," Adrian added with a teasing wink, caressing her cheek as he began kissing her once more.
"Well hopefully things will get better now." Lucina mused as she returned Adrian's kisses before placing her forehead on his. "Who are you going to invite to the wedding?" She asked randomly, the thought popping into her mind. "I mean, I can't really invite anyone seeing as I don't know anyone but I was wondering who you'd invite." She asked as she stepped away from their embrace to lean on the counter.
"Well tha's a question ou' o' nowhere," Adrian laughed as he linked their fingers together, "We 'ave family in other parts o' Ireland. I plan on sendin' them invitations, bu' I don' think they'll come, will jus' send best wishes. Bu' Mum 'n' I 'ave long-time friends in town, so they'll be invited o' course. Bu' tha's abou' it, I think. Jus' a small weddin', love."
"That's what I was thinking." Lucina said as she stepped forward and leaned into Adrian. "I was just wondering because I'm getting a bit anxious about marrying you. I don't like waiting very much." She teased as she placed a kiss on his lips. "I love you, Adrian." She murmured.
"I offered gettin' married sooner rather than la'er, bu' ye shunned tha' idea," Adrian reminded with a teasing grin as he returned her kisses with a few of his own, "Would ye like t' get married nex' weekend, love?"
"That's because I want us to have a proper wedding seeing as you only get one." Lucina laughed before nodding. "I would love to marry you next weekend." She said with an excited smile, wrapping her arms around Adrian's waist. "Providing you still want to marry me, rotten temper and all." She said with wicked grin.
"I love yer temper," Adrian whispered as he pulled her close and placed long, tender kisses upon her lips. "Tell Mum th' news, 'n' I'll get dinner started."
"Yer gettin' married next weekend? Bu' wha' abou' th' Ball?" Lori asked softly as she came down the stairs. |
Lucina let go of Adrian's waist as she looked over at Lori who had just entered the kitchen. "Well the Ball is Friday night so we could always get married on Sunday." Lucina nodded as she ran it over in her mind. "It will just be a small ceremony so we won't have to worry about preparing all weekend." She smiled happily.
Lori brightened as she looked at Lucina. Hugging her, Lori whispered, "Thank you." Kissing Adrian's cheek, Lori went about shucking corn for dinner.
Adrian laughed as he shook his head lightly, "Th' way tha' girl works, I'll ne'er undertan'. I'll be back with th' chicken soon." Placing a kiss on Lucina's lips, Adrian went outside to kill and pluck the chicken for dinner. |
Lucina smiled at the peaceful meeting with Lori which was so opposite of whenever they'd seen each other before. "Do you need some help with those?" Lucina asked as she sat on the chair next to Lori's and began shucking corn as well though she wasn't nearly as skilled as Lori and each ear took her longer then her fiancee's sister.
"Don' ye 'ave t' tell Mum about th' weddin'? So she can get Adrian's suit done 'n' me dress done?" Lori teased with a laugh. "While I'm in town on Sunday, I plan on gettin' fabric fer me dress fer th' ball. Would ye like me t' pick somethin' out fer ye as well?"
"Yeah I'd like that." Lucina smiled as she finished her second ear of corn and set it down. "But you're right, I should tell Shinorah." She said before standing and walking timidly into the living room. "Shinorah?" She asked as she sat on the opposite side of the couch, her hands folding in her lap.
Looking up from her mending, Shinorah looked at Lucina with a worried frown, "Wha' is it girl? Ye look like yer abou' t' tell me someone died. Everythin' alrigh'?"
"Yeah everything's fine. I was just talking to Adrian about the wedding and we want to get married next Sunday. I just don't want it to be a burden on you with all the dress making for the ball and the wedding combined." Lucina explained softly, wondering if she could learn how to help somehow.
"Don' worry, love. I nearly have Adrian's outfit finished, 'n' he already 'as ssomethin' fer th' ball. So all I 'ave left 're Lori's dresses 'n' yer dress fer th' ball. I'll spend this weekend preparin' them, once I get more fabric fer th' ballgowns," Shinorah explained with a warm smile, "So don' worry yer pret'y lit'le head. Ye'll be married th' Sunday next. Just be sure Adrian writes ou' th' invitations. I'll 'ave Lori bring 'em t' town Sunday."
"Thank you, Shinorah." Lucina smiled happily as she wrapped her arms around the older woman's shoulders. "I'm sorry this is such a burden on you but I promise I won't be needing any more dresses." She laughed as she put her hands back together. "I better help Lori with supper." She mused before uttering another small thank you before walking back into the kitchen and continuing the chore of shucking the corn.
Finishing her third ear of corn Lori picked up the mess and tossed it in the barrel for garbage. Brushing her dress off, Lori filled a pot with water and placed it over the fire, placing the ears of corn in shortly after. Grabbing the basket of potatoes and a bowl, Lori went about peeling the potatoes. "After ye put th' corn in th' pot, will ye look in the ice box 'n' see if we 'ave any berries left?"
"Sure." Lucina said as she finished up the corn she was cleaning and ran her fingers over them to make sure they were clean as possible. She scooped up the corn in her arms and dropped them carefully into the pot of water. Making her way to the icebox, Lucina peered inside and moved a few bags of food when she spotted a full bag of blackberries at the bottom. "We have blackberries, Lori. What do you want to do with them?" She asked as she lifted the bag to hold it up.
"Perfect! How would ye like t' learn how t' make Adrian's fav'rite dessert, as a thank you fer th' compr'mise on everythin'," Lori said with a small blush before taking out her cookbook and flipping to a page. "Blackberry Tarts. We 'aven't made 'em in years. No' since Da' died.." Lori added softly.
Lucina frowned as she stepped forward and put a hand on Lori's arm, giving it a small squeeze. "I'm sorry." She offered a smile at the girl before turning to the cookbook. "These look delicious. Adrian'll love them." She said with a smile as she scanned through the ingredients and began collecting them, carefully measuring each twice so she wouldn't mess anything up.
"I'll leave this t' you fer awhile while I preheat th' oven 'n' finish cuttin' these potatoes," Lori said with a warm smile as Adrian walked in carrying the cleaned chicken.
"Where d' ye wan' me t' put this Lor?" Adrian asked as he held it up, it's feet and the like taken off. "On th' counter away from Lucina. Unless ye wan' t' fill th' pan with wa'er 'n' put it in it?" Lori asked with a wink. "Sure," Adrian said with a laugh before going about doing as he was asked. Washing his hands, Adrian looked over Lucina's shoulders with a grin. "Mmmm, Blackberry Tarts! Ye bet'er no' burn 'em, darlin'," Adrian added teasingly with a tender kiss upon her cheek. |
"I'll try not to." Lucina laughed as she mixed together the filling for the tarts and cleaned off her hands. Lucina began to shape the dough shells, her eyes focusing between the shells and the book to be sure she was doing it right..
Placing another tender kiss upon her cheek, Adrian grinned, "They look wonderful." With one last peck on her cheek, Adrian got down a baking sheet for her and buttered it. "Put 'em on these 'n' I'll get th' stove started fer ye."
Putting the peels in the barrel, Lori wiped off her hands before taking the cut potatoes to the sink and rinsing them off. Putting them in with the chicken, Lori walked back to the table and went about cutting the carrots and onions into chunks and slices. |
Lucina only nodded as she carefully filled her tarts and lifted them onto the baking sheet, being sure to leave enough room between them. "Do these look right?" Lucina asked the siblings in the kitchen as she eyed the book carefully, flour peppered on her face.
