"A date?" Glory repeated. She thought about it for a moment. "Well, I guess that probably would make him stop for a while... But how could we make it work? I can't hold my breath for more than a minute or so, after all."
|
"I believe Arcturus has been talking about an idea to hoist me up onto land and in public without other humans noticing, am I correct?" Léan asked, tilting his head.
It was a curious idea, to say the least. He didn't know what precisely his brother was cooking up...but if it worked, then the idea of a date could be quite possible. "Perhaps we should see if he has a plan?" |
"I'm not sure how we would pull such a thing off," Glory mused, "not at the height of summer... But we can ask, and see what kind of idea he has." She had no idea how they would be able to do it... People in little towns tended to look fairly closely at everyone, and gossip flew faster than the wind. She couldn't imagine what would happen if they were found out. It might just be easier for her to turn into one of them instead... Immediately, she beat that thought back into submission.
|
Léan nodded. "Let's go and see what his ideas are, then. It can't hurt..."
He turned and swam at a gentle pace out of the rocks, heading for his brother. Archie was curled up with Damon, floating on his back with him in slightly deeper water. It was an adorable sight. ---------- ((I have to pop out for a bit to buy something--I'll be back.)) |
Sliding off of the rock, Glory followed him, trying her best to keep up. She just wasn't made to glide through the water like they did... A small part of her was sad about that. She wanted to be able to maneuver like they did, and she knew that she couldn't. Pushing those thoughts aside, she did what she could to keep up and not look like a fool in the process.
|
Archie straightened himself when he saw them coming.
"Hey, guys! Did you talk it out?" He looked excited--his tail was swishing back and forth. Léan playfully bopped him on the head before glancing at Glory. He didn't know much about Archie's planning--though he overheard a bit--so he was relying on her to talk to him about it. |
Glory sent Léan a wry look.
"Well... We talked, if that's what you're asking," she replied. "Now we're kind of wondering what your next scheme is. We figure you've planned ahead, so..." |
"Oh, right! I, uh...wanted to see if I could find a way to get Léan onto land, so he'd blend in with humans...I think I have a good idea!" Archie assured, them, nodding. "It involves tying up his tail, though..."
He paused. "See, I've seen humans that move around in little...chairs, I believe they're called. They have big wheels on the side, and they use their hands or a button to move the chair. I was thinking that we could put Léan in one of those chairs, if we could find one...tie up his tail so that it doesn't show and kinda looks like legs...and drape a blanket over his tail, tucking it in tight enough to make sure it won't fall off." Archie grinned. "The only problem would be...finding a chair like that!" He was obviously talking about a wheelchair. |
"A wheelchair?" Glory asked. "An interesting idea... But with it so warm out this time of year, a blanket isn't practical. It would work better in the colder weather, I think..."
|
"Oh, no, I think it'd be okay," Archie assured her, nodding. "Maybe a thin blanket. When we're out of water, we do need a lot of heat, after all. In the water, our bodies act warm-blooded. But when we're out...it's not that simple." He nodded. "It could work."
|
"Interesting..." Glory mused. "I'm not sure where to find a wheelchair, though. It's not exactly as if they're left lying around, you know..."
|
"True..." Archie mused, brow furrowing. "Maybe...you could ask around? Do you have neighbors? Maybe one of them has one you could use, that they maybe don't use anymore."
|
"If I have neighbors, I don't know them," Glory pointed out. "Nana and I just moved in a few days ago." She sighed. "I don't see how this is going to work..."
|
"You could always go and be social...introduce yourself." The comment was quite teasing. Léan was grinning at her.
"...For once, I agree with him," Archie quipped, nodding cheerily. |
"Well, as Léan has demonstrated so wonderfully," Glory replied tartly, teasing, "socializing is overrated." She shrugged, but grinned.
|
"It is not overrated! Léan's just an old man," Archie snickered, grinning.
Léan rolled his eyes. "Well. It might be beneficial to at least introduce yourself to someone who looks like they may have an old wheelchair you could use." |
"I'll see what I can do," Glory said, "but I can't guarantee anything." That was the best she could do, after all. She had no idea where to even start to look for a wheelchair, let alone how she would convince someone to give her one. Sighing, she leaned back in the water, floating on her back.
|
Léan did the same thing, just laying back to relax. He seemed to be content, for now. His eyes were closed.
Archie was tempted to dunk his brother once again, but he resisted the urge in favor of letting him rest. |
Glory didn't hear the distinctive 'splash' of Léan being dunked... But that didn't mean she wasn't fair game, either. Opening her eyes, she gave Archie a wry grin.
"I dare you to try to dunk me," she said, trying to sound sufficiently threatening. She had a sneaking suspicion that she had just invited trouble, instead. |
Archie stared at her for a long moment, then lunged over Léan and dunked her, gleefully.
Léan grunted at having Archie leaning over him so close, and he reached over and shoved him underwater. "You're way too near me. I have a personal bubble. Respect the bubble." |
Glory sputtered when she came back up, laughing. She had seen Archie get shoved under just after he'd dunked her, and it had taken some substantial self-control not to start laughing underwater where she couldn't get more air. She broke the surface just as Léan was whining about his personal bubble.
"Oh, quit whining," she teased, tackling him. "You're such a baby sometimes." |
Léan wheezed a bit, having the wind knocked out of him, but he frowned, pointedly. "I am not a baby. I am perfectly mature."
Archie, who just came back up, coughed into his hand. It sounded suspiciously like he was coughing 'old.' |
Glory giggled when she heard Archie, but still clung to Léan.
"Could have fooled me," she teased. "You whine that he jumps over you, but you don't say a thing with me on your back." |
Archie stared, and then he began to snicker, a big grin spreading across his face.
Léan grumbled. "You are not as irritating as he is," he protested. "Having him hovering over me is like having a very heavy rock being dangled over me. Not safe, and not practical." |
"Uh huh," Glory said, clearly not convinced, "because having me hanging off you like this is clearly practical." Squeezing gently, hugging him from behind, she let go and slid off his back, slipping under the water for a moment before coming back up and treading water.
