Léan opened his eyes to watch the sunset, seeming happy to do so. He was quiet, but he looked perfectly content, and he still leaned on her. He may not have noticed that he was still leaning on her, but nonetheless, he looked relaxed.
Sunsets were always beautiful sights to Léan. It was even better if the skies were clear... |
Glory sighed, watching the sunset as well.
"It's so pretty," she said softly. Slowly, she dropped her arms, figuring he didn't want her hanging all over him any more. She didn't say anything about him leaning on her, though. She didn't mind at all. |
Either Léan was leaning on her on purpose, or he didn't know he was doing it. The latter didn't seem likely. "It is," he agreed, admiring it. He looked...happy. Much better than he did just a few minutes ago.

"You seem more relaxed now," Glory said, glancing at him. "I'm glad. I don't like seeing you so tense and upset." Hesitantly, she lowered her head to his shoulder, leaning on him a little. She hoped he wouldn't push her off, but was ready for it anyways.

"I do feel better..." Léan agreed, nodding. He didn't push her off--in fact, he didn't seem to mind or react at all. He simply basked in the warmth of the setting sun, his eyes closing once more.

Glory was silent for a few moments.
"I think this would count as enough of a 'date' to satisfy your brother, wouldn't you?" she asked finally. "Watching the sunset, I mean." |
Léan coughed, going a bit pink.
"Maybe...I guess..." he replied, in a quiet mumble. He seemed nervous. |
"You don't have to think about it now," Glory reassured. "It's just a siggestion to get your brother off our back." Tilting her head back, she watched the dying sunlight play off of the wispy clouds, turning them rich red and gold.

Léan nodded slowly. "All right..." The sight of the sunset was endearing, and he watched it with a relaxed, content look on his face.

It was nice, sitting there with him... Involuntarily, Glory started to doze off as she leaned against him, tired from swimming all day. She didn't notice herself drifting off to sleep against him, just that he was so comfortable...

Léan noticed her falling asleep, but he didn't know what to do. He didn't want to disturb her...
He eventually decided to let her go, seeing as she looked so relaxed. The sunset was really an amazing sight to behold... |
Glory dozed for a little while, and then woke abruptly. She blushed when she realized she'd fallen asleep on him.
"Sorry..." she said softly, "I didn't mean to do that. Sorry if it annoyed you." |
"It's quite all right--I was not annoyed," Léan clarified, nodding reassuringly. "There is nothing to be sorry about." Indeed, he seemed far more relaxed than he did before...

"If you're sure," she murmured. Linking her arm with his, she leaned against him. "I don't really want to go back inside... But I have to eventually. I'd rather not sleep on the beach. Sand gets everywhere."

"Why don't you want to go back inside?" Léan asked, tilting his head slightly. "Because of laziness? Because of the sunset? Because of...me?"

"I like sitting out here with you," Glory replied. "The weather is nice, everything is calm... And I like being out here to enjoy it with you."

"If you miss me that much, you could always bring me inside," Léan offered. "Once the nice weather fades. I can't get around very well, but I can sit somewhere."

Glory looked at him and raised an eyebrow.
"I thought you didn't like it inside," she said. "Besides, once the summer ends, it's going to be getting cold around here, and I'm probably going to be working, so I doubt you want to stay inside all the time when I'm not there." |
"If I work at it...I can probably move from your home back out to the water freely," Léan informed her. "As long as I am not stuck somewhere...I will need to have someone open doors for me if I cannot reach them..."
He stared at his arms. "I will need to work on my upper body strength. Not that it isn't fine as it is now." |
"What if..." Glory trailed off, hesitant. She'd been thinking about it ever since Archie had mentioned it. The more she thought about it, the more sense it seemed to make. "What if I wanted to become one of you instead?"

Léan stared at her, and then coughed, tinting a little pinker. "I'm...assuming Arcturus had this talk with you already? About how you would keep your legs on land...no more showers--only baths...be careful in rain...no swimming in public...but..."
He glanced at her, as if in disbelief. "He didn't tell you how it was possible to change, did he? If he did, you wouldn't be so keen on it right now..." |
"He mentioned it once or twice," Glory replied, referring to the change itself, not the process. Now she was curious, though. "Obviously, you know more about it, so if you would care to enlighten me...?"

"I...uh..." Léan looked like he'd swallowed a lemon. "It's...a complicated process...but...it can't happen unless the human i-in question is in love with one of my kind," he attempted to explain, awkwardly. "I-in love...being..."
He didn't finish. He didn't trust himself to finish. Instead, he stared at the water pointedly, as if he suddenly found it fascinating. |
Glory blushed brightly when he explained.
"O-oh," she replied. She cleared her throat awkwardly. "I see..." |
"And, uh...that's not the only part of it," Léan continued, shuffling. "It has to be on land...and, uh...I have to..."
He paused, thinking of the correct way to say this. He wasn't even sure if he recalled it all correctly. "I think...bite you, if I remember correctly? On land, our bite can be venomous, if we so choose to release it. It can be lethal...but it can also change a human into one of my kind. But, uh...it only works like that...during...that," he mumbled, again becoming interested in the water. |
