"Long hair is nice. My hair and Léan's hair can't get long or it gets really curly." Archie wrinkled his nose. "I don't wanna look like a complete copy of Uncle Mycroft."
"Yeah, I wish my hair had texture to it," Glory scoffed. "It doesn't even have a wave."
"Not underwater, you don't want curly hair...unless it's really, really short. Wavy hair is okay...curly hair gets caught on coral if you swim too closely to it...plus, I don't wanna look like Uncle Mycroft. I'm already enough like him, as Father used to complain about all the time..." Archie scratched his head sheepishly. "He never liked Mycroft."
"I think I hear an interesting story there," Glory said, grinning.
Archie giggled--a clear difference between him and his brother, since Léan never giggled. "And where do you hear an interesting story?" he challenged, amused.
"Well, I've never heard anything about your guys' family," Glory explained. "I mean, I used to live with my aunt and all that, and you know I live with Nana right now..." she trailed off.
"We don't have a lot of family members," Archie explained, smiling apologetically. "It was just me and Léan...our father, and he has no living relatives other than us...and our mother, and her brother Mycroft. Mycroft is where we get our blonde hair and blue eyes...our parents don't have that."
"I noticed," Glory murmured, thinking a bit. She'd wondered about it for a little while, when she'd first seen Honeydew, but it had been pushed out of her mind at the time, since she'd kind of been stuck in a tank.
Archie shifted, then patiently waited to see if she would ask about Mycroft. Truth be told, the twins had only seen Mycroft four times in their entire life.
"Well, I guess it's kind of obvious that I look just like my father," Glory said after a moment of thought. "Since my mother's a redhead and I'm very much not." She wrinkled her nose a bit. "I would look terrible with red hair."
Archie chuckled. "There's nothing wrong with red hair. Myself, I don't like orange-red...red is okay..." He stretched himself out. He seemed more relaxed now that they were talking comfortably, and he wasn't focusing on the fact that she was human.
"I rather like my own hair, thanks," Glory replied. She ran her fingers through her hair, and grimaced a bit when they caught. "And it needs to be brushed out really bad."
Archie yawned, softly. "I rarely brush my hair. 'Cept with my fingers. It's short enough that it rarely knots..." His tail flicked back and forth thoughtfully.
"Lucky," Glory teased. "Again, long hair. It tends to tangle fairly easily."
"That depends on how you wear it," Archie reminded her, rolling over onto his back. Yes...even when being serious, he was much more playful than his brother. It was odd to see, since they looked so alike.
"It would take too long to dry if I kept it back all the time," Glory pointed out. "It's either keep it back and leave it to mold or something, or leave it loose and let it dry and tangle."
The concept of needing hair to be dry was alien to Archie, and it immediately brought to light that the two of them did not share the same species. He attempted to combat the almost xenophobic fear rising up inside of him. "Okay..."
Glory blinked at his sudden change in mood, wondering what caused it. When she realized what it was, she looked down a bit.
"Sorry..." she said. |
"No, really...it's...it's okay." Archie looked down, as well. "I do need to try and get over it...at least, when it comes to specific people..."
"It's my fault," Glory replied. "I wasn't thinking." If she had been, she wouldn't have mentioned anything that would have reminded him about their difference in species.
"No, it's okay...really...I promise," Archie insisted, nodding. He seemed a little less comfortable...it was an improvement from how he'd acted before. He didn't mind greeting friendly humans, if he knew that his brother cared for them...and talking wasn't a big deal. It was more of an emotional roadblock. Getting to know them was incredibly difficult for him.
"Are you sure?" Glory asked. "I don't want to make you uncomfortable..." At least, no more than she had already. She could probably find something to do topside, if she had to, in case it was best for her to leave for a bit.
"No, trust me, I'll...be fine." Archie seemed half-sure about that...better than his complete lack of confidence the last time they tried this...
"Alright..." Glory replied. She didn't want him to be uncomfortable, if she could help it.
Archie closed his eyes, curling up slightly. "...Okay, what do you want to talk about, now...?"
