Azilis got the message and nodded, taking Clarissa's hand and slowly getting closer to them.
Glory glanced at Léan, silently asking whether or not he thought it was alright for his mother to hold one of the twins. |
Léan nodded in Glory's direction. Honeydew was an angel. He trusted her. He didn't trust Betelgeuse...not in the least. He was glad he was keeping his distance.
Both he and his father kept an eye on each other. It was unnerving to see their stare-down, of sorts. It was like a silent fight between the two of them. |
"Go ahead and hold Autumn," Glory said softly to Honeydew. "She has a much better attitude towards being held."
|
Léan had no problems offering Autumn to Honeydew. He held her out, hoping he wouldn't drop her.
Honeydew took her gently, holding her close. "Hi, honey," she cooed. |
Autumn blinked and looked up at the unfamiliar face, blue eyes wide and curious. She didn't mind being passed around, now that she wasn't being squeezed so tightly.
Glory kept an eye on them as she held Orion. She knew by now he didn't like being passed around too much. Azilis kept his distance for the moment. He knew he and Clarissa could always see the children later on. |
Honeydew examined Autumn rather closely, taking note of her eye color. "Ah..." She glanced over at Orion, as well. "Lucky children. I don't know if you know where Léandre and Arcturus get their looks from, since they clearly don't get them from Betelgeuse or I...no, they get their blonde hair and blue eyes from my brother, Mycroft..."
The mere mention of Mycroft seemed to tick Betelgeuse off, for he flashed Honeydew a rather murderous look. |
"I've heard him mentioned once or twice," Glory replied.
|
"Probably not talked about in detail, though," Honeydew surmised, thoughtfully. She was holding Autumn close to her and gently rocking her back and forth as she spoke. "Mycroft is my brother. My elder brother. He stopped growing at a young age and still resembles a teenager in many ways, but he is indeed my senior. Léandre and Arcturus don't know much about him...he only visited once or twice and left rather quickly."
She paused, and then sighed. "Betelgeuse does not like him." |
"It must be nice to have a brother," Glory replied softly. She looked down at Orion in her arms. "These two are lucky."
|
"They are. Twins are quite lucky..." Honeydew glanced back at her mate, who was still curled up rather defensively between the two stacks of coral.
If looks could kill, everyone in the immediate area other than Honeydew would probably be dead. Even with his mate back, Betelgeuse's nastiness had not faded away. The only person that seemed to be spared from it was Honeydew... |
"Did you want to try to hold Orion?" Glory asked her. It was only fair that she got the chance to hold both of the children.
|
Honeydew seemed uneasy about Orion, for some reason. She nodded towards the side, where she noticed that Azilis was hanging around rather patiently. "Perhaps he wants to hold him?"
|
Glory noticed her hesitation, but nodded. Going over to Azilis, she gently handed him Orion.
"Here," she said softly. "His name is Orion." Azilis took the infant, holding him awkwardly. He'd never learned how to properly hold a baby; he'd never needed to. |
Orion immediately complained when he was handed over, his hands balling into fists and a definitive pout settling on his face. But he didn't cry or scream. He just curled up into a ball, determined to continue resting.
|
Glory kept an eye on them, making sure Orion didn't start crying. She didn't know why he complained whenever she let someone else hold him.
|
Honeydew, noticing that it seemed like Autumn wanted to sleep, held her back out to Léan and Glory, hoping one of them would take her. "Seems like she wants to rest."
|
Glory took Autumn back, holding her close. The infant was asleep, and didn't stir when she was handed back.
|
Léan was leaning against one of the rock structures, the one closest to Glory, and simply observing everything that was going on. He kept an eye on Betelgeuse, but he was watching Azilis and Orion as well.
|
Glory went over and handed Autumn to him gently. It wasn't that she didn't want to hold the infant, but she got the feeling that her father was going to try to hand back Orion fairly soon.
Indeed, Azilis was starting to look distinctly uncomfortable, since he had no idea how to deal with babies at all. |
Léan had no problem taking her. He held her awkwardly, eerily like Azilis held Orion. But he kept her still and rested his cheek against the rock, gently.
((Heading to bed. Not feeling very well. :( )) |
Autumn snuggled into her father's arms, comfortable. She had no problem sleeping like that.
Glory went and took Orion back from Azilis. Her father looked uncomfortable with the infant, though it was probably more from sheer inexperience than anything else. |
Léan seemed like he wanted to rest his eyes, but he kept them forcibly open. This was only because he was keeping an eye on Betelgeuse.
Betelgeuse continued to keep his distance, coiled up between the coral like a rattlesnake poised to attack. |
Glory kept an eye on Betelgeuse as well. She didn't want to take the chance of anything happening.
|
Honeydew, noticing the unspoken tension, seemed to sense that their presence was no longer wanted, or welcome. She gave a slight bow, a sign of respect--she acknowledged that the territory belonged to Glory and not her. "We should be going. I don't want to cause any trouble." She swam back around the coral, gently ushering her mate out of hiding. The two politely left.
|
Glory watched them go.
"I'm just glad nothing bad actually happened," she said. |
