"Don't worry about it," Glory replied. "I can take care of dressing them. I won't make you if you don't want to."
Léan sighed and then nodded, chewing his lip slightly. "...All right. I'll just wait for you to finish." He was still facing in a different direction.
"Autumn should be almost done," Glory replied. "They were both hungry, it's been a while since I last fed them."
Léan nodded, stretching his arms out above his head slightly and yawning while he waited.
Once she was finished, Autumn looked around curiously as Glory dressed her and laid her down into her crib.
"Alright," Glory said, "they should be alright for a while." |
Léan turned around and then studied both of them curiously, making sure they were awake. "All right. I suppose you had better alert your Nana that I'm going to be singing...I don't want to accidentally make her lose her balance or something."
Glory nodded and left the room to find her grandmother. Once she did, she let Nana know what was going on and gave her the proper warnings. Then she went back to Léan and the children.
Léan waited for her to return before slightly turning towards the twins' cribs. He cleared his throat, and then he let a few long, soft notes of his song spill forward.
Orion didn't notice it at first, but then he lifted his head a little, squinting. He didn't seem very entranced by it--more curious than anything else. He probably had more of the blood of a merperson in him than the blood of a human. |
The song caught Autumn's attention right away. She seemed more entranced than her brother, but she wasn't completely pulled under. She seemed to be a bit more human than merperson, but not human enough to be completely ensnared.
Léan finished his song once he noticed that both Autumn and Orion seemed a little desensitized to it. "That should do, for now. We'll just have to keep an eye out for my father in the water."
"Alright," Glory replied. She looked down at the children. Now that there was nothing to hold her attention, Autumn looked ready for a nap.
Orion was less ready to nap. He looked like he wanted something to occupy himself--he was kicking playfully at the bars of the crib and waving his arms around.
Reaching down, Glory gently tickled Orion's sides. She tried to think if she had any sort of toy she could give him. Most likely she did, since she'd bought one or two in preparation for having twins, so she just had to dig them out.
Orion squealed a little and harmlessly kicked out at her arms, a happy look on his face for once.
Léan looked clueless, as usual. It hadn't occurred to him that children would need much else besides food, water, and someone to watch over them. |
Glory grinned and tickled him gently again. She was glad she could make him laugh. He was far too serious for an infant, the polar opposite of Autumn. His sister found everything fun and amusing.
Orion made a similar squealing noise and kicked a little more. He seemed frustrated that his little legs weren't warding off his tickling attacker, and he scowled a bit. He looked a lot like Léan when he scowled.
Glory stopped tickling him and leaned down to kiss his forehead. Then she went into one of the boxes of baby things and looked for some sort of toy to give him. Once she found a stuffed animal, she made sure there were no tags and set it down next to him.
Orion seemed startled of the stuffed animal at first, but he eventually warmed up to it. He reached out and batted at it playfully with his hands, looking content.
Autumn saw her brother being given something and made grabby-hands towards it. Whatever it was, she wanted one too.
"I have one for you too, sweetie," Glory said as she managed to dig out another stuffed animal. She popped off the tags, and then set it down next to Autumn. The infant reached for it curiously, and pulled it closer to snuggle with when she found out it was soft and fuzzy. |
Léan watched absently, not understanding the point of stuffed animals. As a child, he and his brother had gotten few luxuries, especially after their mother was pulled up in a net.
"Alright, they should be okay for a little while," Glory said softly once the twins were occupied with their toys. She took his hand gently. "Should we head into my room and settle in for a little while?"
Léan squeezed her hand, flashing her a smile. He had fallen into his old habit of not smiling that often anymore, so it was nice to see a smile on his face. "Sure..."
Leaning over, Glory gave him a kiss.
"I like it when you smile," she said softly. She tugged on his hand a bit and led him into her room. |
"I see..." Léan's tone was amused. "I don't smile that often, I guess...it's a rare sight." He followed her to her room without any kind of protest.
Once they were in her room, Glory quickly slipped into some comfortable clothes and settled down onto her bed.
