It took Glory a moment to figure out what Léan was saying, but she did.
"...How well can you keep a secret?" she asked Viktor. "Like, a secret you have to take with you to your grave?" |
"Ask my parents," Viktor joked, then shook his head. "I'm good at keeping secrets. I don't tell secrets."
"If you tell, I will know, and I will skin you alive," Glory said. "This is serious."
"Okay, okay...sheesh. I'm not gonna tell anybody," Viktor muttered, scratching absently at one of his arms.
Glory studied him for a moment.
"Tell anyone, and I'll hit you with my car. One more dent won't matter," she said, stepping aside. |
Léan let the shark come out first, but he didn't come out afterwards. It seemed he was a little frightened, and needed some encouragement.
Glory ignored the shark as she turned towards the tunnel. She knew what was wrong. Taking a breath, she ducked below the surface. She could barely see Léan in the back of the tunnel. She held out a hand to him, and hoped he would take it before she needed more air.
Léan froze for a split second, and then he reached out and took her hand, holding onto it for dear life.
'It's okay,' She traced on the back of his hand. She surfaced as slowly as she could, to give him time to adjust a bit more, but eventually she needed to break the surface for more air.
Léan surfaced once she did, very plainly in sight now. He hid behind her, his shoulders up to his chin.
Viktor didn't say anything for a long moment. It seemed he was contemplating something. |
Glory held onto Léan's hand, giving him support. She didn't mind him staying behind her. She knew he was afraid, and she was doing what she could to help.
"That answers one question, and raises a million more," Viktor said finally, scratching his head.
Léan said nothing. He held onto Glory's hand tightly. |
"Now you know why I was trying to get you to go the hell away," Glory pointed out. "And, you know, the massive suitcase and all that."
"I was wary about the suitcase, but I didn't know you were carrying a stowaway," Viktor chuckled. He seemed...relaxed about it.
Léan still seemed wary, frightened. |
"It was Selena's bright idea," Glory protested. "Anyways, you have to take this secret to your grave."
"I'm not gonna tell anyone," Viktor promised, sheepishly.
Léan rested his head on Glory's shoulder, seeming a little more relaxed, now. |
Glory let Léan rest his head on her shoulder. She was glad he was more relaxed.
"Come on, let's go sit in the shallows," she suggested. |
"I'm going back to catch more waves...ankle feels fine, now." Viktor watched the shark, which was swimming around them. "You plannin' on taking that shark home? I can get you a tank."
"Good, that solves that problem," Glory said brightly. "I was going to ask about that."
"All right-y, then..." Viktor looked between them--Léan was still silent.
Glory noticed the look and sighed.
"If you're going to say something, then say it," she said. |
"I don't have much to say, but...how in the world do you two spend time together?" Viktor asked, mystified. He reached up and scratched his head--his hair was semi-damp from surfing, yet. "You can't breathe underwater, and he can. You know how to scuba-dive?"
"No, actually," Glory replied. "I literally live on the beach. My grandmother bought the old cottage."
Viktor chuckled. "It'd probably be in your best interest to learn, then. I can teach you. I'm taking everyone scuba-diving sometime this week, but I could teach you today or tomorrow, if you'd like."
Glory didn't reply, glancing at Léan instead. If he didn't want her to go, she wouldn't.
