"I doubt that," Léan replied, quite sure of himself. "I highly doubt that...I'll be just as clueless as ever. Trust me." He became teasing as he went on, but he really felt like an idiot for not being able to think of a good name.
"Then next time I call home, we can ask your brother for ideas," Glory said. She was half-teasing, and didn't expect him to really go for the idea.
"Uh...I wouldn't do that. Not unless you want it to have a ridiculous name," Léan warned. "He's owned a pet before. He named it Sir Snuggles."
"...Do I even want to know what it was?" Glory asked. It sounded like a name some little kid would name a stuffed animal. "Tell me it was at least something relatively cuddly."
"It was a small octopus," Léan sighed, shaking his head. "It hated me. I would wake up and find it stuck to my arm, giving me a death glare..."
Glory couldn't help but giggle.
"Maybe if you were a little nicer..." she teased. |
Léan immediately scowled. "I ignored it all day. I was never nasty to it. And yet, it hated me anyway." He huffed, folding his arms across his chest.
"Maybe it didn't like you because you didn't pay any attention to it," Glory pointed out. "Pets tend to like attention, that's why they're pets."
"It was his pet, not mine. I felt I didn't have to associate with it. I don't like octopus-like creatures...them, or squids..." Léan frowned.
"That's a terrible excuse," Glory replied. "You can't ignore it just because it technically doesn't belong to you."
"It hated me from the start, so I didn't want to go near it," Léan argued, irritated. He closed his eyes and swam ahead again, this time not to catch fish but to gaze at the coral idly.
Glory rolled her eyes.
"If you say so," she said. She wasn't going to argue with him anymore. |
Léan floated along in the water on his back after a moment, closing his eyes. He seemed content to float along beneath the waves, relaxing...it was almost like underwater sunbathing.
Glancing at her oxygen gauge, Glory sighed inwardly.
"Time to head back," she said. "The tank is almost gone." |
Léan frowned, but nodded. He returned to her side, flanked by the seemingly hyperactive shark. It didn't want to head back yet.
"We could always call the thing 'Sweetums' until we think of a name for it," Glory teased as they headed back to the shore.
"Oh, no. That sounds like something my brother would name it," Léan groaned as he swam beside her. "He'll have a fit when we return if we call it that..."
"Then we have to think of a better name," Glory said.
Léan nodded as they reached shore. He pulled himself up onto wet sand near the water and stretched himself out, shaking his hair out.
Glory settled herself on the sand, taking off the tank and breather. Somehow, it felt good to be on solid ground again, and it made her realize how tired she was.
The shark stayed up in the shallows, watching them with a somewhat curious look on its face. Léan also seemed tired. He looked like he was going to fall asleep on land.
Stretching, Glory made herself stand up.
"I think I'm going to head inside and relax for a while," she said. "You look like you're about to pass out." |
Léan was jolted out of sleep. "Mm...? Oh. All right..." He slid back into the water. "I'm going to go take a nap, then..."
"You do that," Glory said as she picked up the diving gear. Quietly, she made her way back into the house. A nap sounded wonderful... Stripping out of her wetsuit, she changed into a tank and sleeping pants, falling into her bed. It didn't take her long to fall asleep.
Léan had a strange feeling all throughout his nap. It woke him up several times, and made him paranoid when he finally decided to stay awake.
