Glory's nap didn't last very long, but she woke up feeling a bit more refreshed than before. Stretching, she wondered what Léan was up to.
Léan had been going to go hunting...but instead, after being bothered by his fishy friend, had played with the shark, a tad unwillingly.
Switching her sleeping pants for a pair of shorts, Glory made her way back out to the beach. She made sure her cell phone and wallet were in her pocket, in case she went somewhere on the island, and slipped some shoes on. She didn't intend on going back out into the water, so she didn't change into her bathing suit again. She grinned when she saw Léan playing with the shark.
Léan was playing a strange sort of tag with the small shark. He immediately paused when he saw Glory watching, and scratched his head sheepishly.
"Don't let me interrupt," Glory teased, "keep going, by all means."
Léan frowned. "No, no...I think that is enough for today. Our friend pestered me out of resting to play. Now, I get to relax."
"You act as if you weren't having fun as well," Glory said. "I could tell you were."
"I was not," Léan huffed, folding his arms across his chest. There was a hint of a smile on his face, however.
"That's called lying through your teeth, and I can tell when you do it," Glory teased, settling on her rock. Reaching down to the smaller stones around the rock's base, she picked up a flat, relatively round rock and skipped it across the water. It only made four skips before it sank.
Léan frowned. "Gah. Fine, fine...I was enjoying burning off some energy." His shoulders suddenly went up to his chin, and he looked around. "...There it is again...that creepy feeling."
"What do you mean?" Glory looked around, but didn't see anything out of the ordinary, at least above ground.
"I had a nightmare during my nap that I can't remember for the life of me. And ever since I have been awake, I have felt paranoid, like I'm being watched," Léan murmured, looking around.
"Well... The big rocks are close enough together that I can jump across them, do you want me to have a look around from up here?" Glory asked.
"If you want to, go on ahead...I won't stop you," Léan replied--it seemed like that would bring him a lot of relief. "Just don't hurt yourself."
"I'll be alright, you know me," Glory replied as she slipped off her shoes. She could jump better on the rocks barefoot. "What's the worst that can happen? I get wet again?"
"You could fall and hurt yourself," Léan informed her, quite amused. "And then possibly get wet when you fall."
"I spent all summer doing this, remember?" Glory replied tartly as she jumped to another rock and looked around. "I seem to recall being knocked of my rock a few times by a ball of seaweed, though."
"I seem to recall that, as well," Léan teased, stretching out. "I'll leave you be so you can look around...please don't fall." He ducked back under to play with the shark some more.
Rolling her eyes, Glory jumped to another rock a little further out and looked around. A few times, she thought she saw something out of the corner of her eye, but she didn't see anything unusual when she turned to look, although it was enough to set her a little paranoid as well. When she didn't see anything else, she started to make her way back to the shore. She'd feel better when her feet were on dry land.
Léan was waiting for her near shore, looking a little concerned. When he saw her approach, he frowned a bit. "Did you happen to see our shark friend while you were out there? It was chasing me for a while, and then I turned around and it was gone...like it had spotted something."
Standing up on her rock, Glory looked around for the shark.
"I don't see it..." she murmured as she looked. "That's strange, it was just here... Did you check the little caves and tunnels? Maybe it's hiding." |
Léan paused for a moment, then looked around. "Ah...there it is," he mumbled as the shark returned. It seemed to have something in its mouth, but it didn't look like a fish or crab...
"What is that thing it's got?" Glory asked. She couldn't see it clearly from above water, and she wasn't about to stick her head into the water to get a better look now that she'd actually gotten her hair to dry for the first time since she arrived.
Léan ducked his head underwater and tried to take whatever it was from the shark. Surprisingly, it released it. He rose slowly, staring at whatever it was, before turning around to show her. Scales, much like his own. But dark green...almost black.
Glory blinked and sat down on the rock.
"Would I be right in assuming that's not a good thing?" she asked. |
