For once, there was complete silence on Archie's end. No matter how happy he usually acted, Archie was scared stiff of his father. "Okay. I'll go and get him, and we'll go somewhere else," he replied, sounding...a lot like his brother.

"Alright. Léan and I should be back in three days," Glory said. She didn't know if he and Damon would come back once she and Léan were back home, but she let him know anyways.

"I'll be back to greet you when you return," Archie promised, still sounding mostly serious. "I'm going to hide Damon...and only I'll know where he is."

"Alright," Glory replied. "Sounds good. Go ahead and give the phone back to Nana and do what you need to."

"Okay, bye-bye." Archie held the phone back out to Nana, all business. He was rarely ever like that...
|
"Glory?" Nana's voice asked. "What was that all about?"
"Don't worry about it, Nana," Glory replied. "Listen, Until I get back, don't go out to the beach unless you absolutely have to, alright?" "Glory, what's going on?" "Nana, please, just trust me?" Glory asked. "Just a little?" There was a pause on the other end. "Alright," Nana finally said. "I'll trust you. But I want an explaination when you get home, do you hear me?" "Loud and clear, Nana," Glory replied, sighing in relief. The two exchanged a brief goodbye, and Glory hung up. |
Léan looked pleasantly surprised. "I'm glad Arcturus is taking it seriously. If there is one thing he fears more than anything else, it's our father..." He dipped down below the water to check on the shark, which was looking around the tank curiously.

Glory looked through the glass at the two of them, grinning.
"I think the shark is kind of cute," she said. |
Léan frowned at her. "If you say so..." His voice was echo-y, since he was still underwater. Somehow, it sounded more...natural...for him.

"It is," Glory insisted. Glancing around the room, she spotted the remote for the TV. Picking it up, she clicked on the TV. "Let's see what channels they get in Hawaii. Here's to hoping that they get Discovery."

Léan curled up on the rocks at the bottom of the tank, nearly level with her, and watched the TV with interest. He still had that odd gleam to him when he was underwater...his tail shone, his hair shone, and billowed out...even his skin looked a little more healthy.

"You're too pretty," Glory commented as she glanced at him. "It's just not fair."

Léan blinked, then flushed a little pink. "Erm...thank you? My apologies...our species is known to look just too alluring to humans...it's always been that way."

Glory couldn't help but giggle at how flustered he looked.
"Just take the compliment," she said. |
Léan cleared his throat, frowning at her giggle. He was amused, however. "All right, all right...it was simply unexpected, that is all."

Glory grinned.
"Honestly, you're prettier than the girl you hang out with, and you don't notice?" she teased. |
"I don't pay much attention to looks," Léan replied, grinning. "And that is some wonderful self-esteem you have there, my companion."

"I rather like being a realist," Glory shrugged. "And I never said my self-esteem was all that great."

"Huh. I suppose you didn't. Myself, I don't think I have any. I'm just me, and that's all I'll ever be," Léan hummed. "I never aspire to be anything more or anything less." He tilted his head as she stopped on a channel where a bunch of humans were scrabbling to make elaborate cakes.

"Ooh, Challenge is on," Glory said, and stopped on the channel. "Watching Food Network Challenge is always fun, because lately it's all Extreme Challenges. Like with motorized parts and sparklers and such."

Léan shook his head, grinning, as one of the humans, rushing to get everything set up right, toppled her cake over. "You humans are so silly. What is the point of this? What are they making?"

"It's a competition between pastry experts," Glory replied. "They're competing to see who can make the best cake under a time limit, and the one who wins gets ten thousand dollars. Most of the competitors have been on the show before."

Léan nodded slowly. "Mm...I see. It is strange how money runs 99% of your society. I would say that is about 75% under the water in my world..."

"Money can pretty much get you anything up here," Glory said. "As long as you have enough of it, which most people don't. Or at least they never think they do."

Léan nodded, idly. "I suppose the reason money isn't as important in my world is that there is no central government for anything at all. There are very few big cities--though there are some, and they live like humans live...the rest of us, most of us, live in small villages, or in nomadic packs. The best way I can describe the nomads, like myself...like...wolf packs?"
