"If you're certain..." Lorabelle sighed as she nodded. "Then I shall do my best to learn quickly and become the best human I can be," Lorabelle said happily with a laugh as she unconsciously placed a tender kiss on Ben's cheek before finishing her sandwich. As she swallowed, her eyes grew wide at what she had done.
"I.. don't know why I did that.. My body just... did it.." Lorabelle said softly, quite confused about her actions. "I kissed you, without thinking one wit about it.. The curious thing is, I wanted to kiss you... I rather liked it.. But I don't understand why..." Lorabelle rambled to herself as she just stared blankly at the counter. "Why did I want to kiss you and why did I like it?" Lorabelle asked as she turned to Ben. "Why do I feel comfortable and calm today, when my cheeks were burning and I was so red last night. I don't understand...." |
Ben, coming out his bit of shock from Lora's kiss, smiled softly at her. "I don't know, Lora. Sometimes you just want something then, without thinking, you do it." He tried to explain, wishing nothing more then for her to kiss him again. "The one thing I do know is that its alright to be confused. I'm confused about at least four things every day." He said, scratching the back of his neck nervously.
Lorabelle laughed as she clasped her hands behind her back, "I think I have you beat. I'm confused about everything nearly all the time every day! But I must admit, human emotions, wants, and desires are what very much confuse me the most. Is the feeling you called 'more than friends'?" Lorabelle asked with a small blush on her cheeks.
"And now that burning feeling is back in my cheeks!" Lorabelle exclaimed as her fingertips felt her cheeks, "Is this what it feels like?" |
Ben couldn't help but smile as he walked over to Lora and put his arms around her waist, careful to be tentative in case she asked him to stop. "Does it feel like your stomach is in strange knots and you feel very happy and very nervous at the same time?" He asked softly.
Lorabelle nodded as she fidgeted with a section of her long black hair, "And my heart is beating really fast and I can't calm it. Is that normal?"
"Perfectly normal." Ben murmured as he leaned forward, his lips hovering over Lora's. There was a split second of hesitation as he prayed that his actions wouldn't scare Lora away. Ben pressed onwards, his lips softly brushing against Lora's for longer then before, his hands resting chastely on her hips.
Lorabelle's eyes close as she leaned into his kiss, her fingertips shifting from her own cheek to caress his. Resting her forehead against Ben's, Lorabelle asked softly, "Is that what a real kiss feels like? I rather like it.. It is everything I pictured it would be while watching the humans.. Am I very bad at it?" Lorabelle asked hesitantly with a scarlet blush rising in her cheeks.
"You're very good at it." Ben encouraged with a small smile, tugging only slightly on Lora's hips as he pulled her closer. "And I rather enjoy kissing you as well." He murmured before lowering his head for another soft kiss, this one lasting longer then the two previous. When Ben came up for air he leaned back a bit as to not crowd the girl in front of him.
Lorabelle smiled as her fingertips slid into Ben's hair and she pulled him back for a tender kiss. Wrapping her arms around his torso, Lorabelle buried her face in his chest with a warm smile. "Thank the Gods the Courts chose to send me here and not somewhere else in this world...
"I guess my brother knew what he was doing, hm? I really must thank him for making my punishment a pleasure instead of a torment, for making sure I arrived just as you were coming back from school... I cannot imagine if I had arrived too late..." Lorabelle's smile faltered as a tear fell down her cheek and her voice got quieter, "Why is it I feel so attached and safe with you, and I feel happier than I ever did living as a Fairy? Why is it that the thought of never seeing you again, hurts me more than never seeing my family again? I don't understand it... What is this human emotion that I cannot seem to stop feeling in my chest and in the pit of my stomach?" |
"I don't have a word for it, Lora." Ben said softly as he rested his forehead on her's, lifting his hand to wipe away her tears. "All I know is that I care for you and that I want you to be safe here with me." He explained before pulling Lora to him for a soft hug.
Lorabelle felt more tears run down her cheeks as her fingertips lightly dug into Ben's back and grasped his shirt. "There is so much I don't know and don't understand... I do not even understand why water is coming from my eyes without provocation... I cannot imagine how ridiculous I seem, so dull... I don't know how you can stand it," Lorabelle said with a small laugh as she wiped her eyes and went back to cleaning the kitchen.
"It doesn't bother me, Lora. But I hate how much it bothers you not knowing things. I wish I could teach you everything but there's just so much." Ben shook his head as he continued to help cleaning the kitchen. "I can't even imagine how fustrated you must be. I promise I'm trying to show you everything." Ben said.
I know you are," Lorabelle said with a warm smile as she washed the dishes, "I just wish the Court had given me a better understanding of this world... Ben? Will you teach me the written language? I think things may be easier if I could at least make visual connections."
"Of course." Ben nodded as he finished cleaning the kitchen and disappeared for a few moments before returning with a notebook and pencil. "Sit here, Lora." He said as he plopped onto a stool and gestured to the one next to him.
Wiping her hands on a towel, Lorabelle sat next to Ben and pulled her hair over the opposite shoulder out of the way. Twirling it in her fingers, Lorabelle asked curiously, "Is that how one uses the written language?"
"Yes." Ben nodded as he wrote each letter of the alaphabet, nearly twice the size as he usually would to teach her. "Every word is made up of letters and these are all the letters. They're called the alphabet." Ben explained as he walked through each one, even teaching Lora the small song that kindergarteners sang to remember the order.
Lorabelle laughed as she repeated the song, failing miserably at remembering them. Still, she practiced on and eventually got the song down after many, many repeats. Then, it was time to practice writing. When it came to holding a pencil, Lorabelle was like a baby trying to hold a spoon. She got the concept, but just couldn't get her fingers and hands to form to it properly.
Frowning, Lorabelle increasingly became frustrated as she made many attempts to hold the pencil properly with her right hand and attempted to form the first letter of the alphabet, "A". Looking over at Ben, Lorabelle sighed, "How in the world are you able to hold such a monstrosity properly? It will not work to save my life! This thing absolutely abhors me." |
"It doesn't hate you, Lora." Ben grinned as he stood up and walked behind her, placing his hand over her's so that he could fit the pencil right and walk her through writing the first letter. "Like this, see?" He offered.
Tilting her head, Lorabelle looked at the letter curiously, "It doesn't look a thing like yours.... Why is mine so wobbly and crooked? Is this how all humans start out when writing?" Lorabelle bit her lower lip in concentration as she tried the letter again, this time it coming out a tad bit smoother than before. Grinning, Lorabelle laughed as she tried it again. "It seems so! If I keep practicing while you are away, I shall have this down in no time!"
"You're a natural." Ben encouraged as he sat back down beside her and watched as she worked over each letter. "Now when you make words, the letters go in certain orders." Ben explained as he carefully wrote out Lora's name on a piece of paper.
"What do those letters represent?" Lorabelle asked curiously as she watched Ben write the new language, her fingers absently twirling her long black hair.
"That's your name." Ben smiled as he looked over the paper. "Lora." He let the word roll off his tongue as he underlined the word on the paper. "And this is mine." He said as he spelled out the word 'Ben' underneath where he'd written previously. "Do you want to try?" He asked as he took a clean sheet of paper from the notebook and placed it in front of Lora.
Lorabelle's fingertips brushed across her name as a smile spread across her lips. "Lora.." Lorabelle repeated with a small laugh, "Is this really what my name looks like in written language?" Basing "belle" off of the sounds from Ben's name and from her own name, Lorabelle wrote her full name, "Lorabelle" hesitantly on the clean piece of paper. "Does this say Lorabelle?" Lorabelle asked as she pointed to her messy writing, hoping it came at least close to her name.
"Yes." Ben smiled widely. "I'll admit its a bit messy but with practice your writing will improve." He assured her before standing up and moving to the fridge to get himself a glass of cranberry juice. "Would you like anything to drink?" He asked before taking a sip from his glass.
"Sure," Lorabelle said with a wide smile at Ben before turning back to the piece of paper and working hard at making her handwriting less messy and more refined, even going to far as to experiment a little with the way the letters were written. Trying to make them more like her and very unique, Lorabelle smiled as she played around with the letters. "Is this any better?" Lorabelle asked as she showed him the piece of paper, hoping she'd improved some with the writing of her name.
