"Humans have airplanes." Ben explained as he spread out his arms. "They're very large and they carry lots of people at one time and can fly. We get into airplanes and fly to wherever we like. Or we can take boats across the ocean that carry people too." He said as he looked over the world map, memorizing country names into his mind.
"Is an airplane like a very large bird?" Lorabelle asked as she giggled at Ben's movements. "How do they tame the birds to carry humans?"
"Its a machine, not an animal." Ben explained as he shook his head before reclining back on the couch and setting his feet on the coffee table next to the map. "It's pretty useful because we can ship products as well and its relatively fast." He said.
"But how can a machine fly?" Lorabelle asked as she shifted to curl into Ben's side, resting her head back on his arm as she looked up at his face. "You have machines here, and they do not fly.. At least, I have not seen them do it... Do they fly secretly?" Lorabelle asked excitedly, wondering if she was somehow missing their flights in the night.
"Only airplanes." Ben said as he instinctively wrapped his arms around Lora's frame. "They are built with fans and engines that speed up very fast and launch them into the air." He explained, one of his fingers tracing up and down her arm. "There are many different machines." He pondered aloud.
"Are engines and fans what make everything move?" Lorabelle asked curiously, "Like the shiny box we ride in to get to your apartment? And those big metal things that have those black circles holding them up?"
"Yes, engines are what make vechiles move. It provides all the energy need to propel them." Ben explained as he stifled a yawn. "What do you say we get some sleep tonight?" Ben asked as he sat up, carrying Lora with him.
Lorabelle laughed as Ben picked her up. "But the couch is that way," Lorabelle said with a laugh as she pointed behind him. "Adeline isn't staying tonight so you don't have to sleep on the floor and I don't have to take your bed. The floor cannot be very comfortable," Lorabelle said with a smile as she placed a tender kiss upon Ben's lips, "And you can't have gotten much sleep from it."
"Lora, if its alright with you I think I'd like to sleep in my bed tonight." Ben said as he brought her to the bedroom and laid her against the mentioned bed. "And you are more then welcome to do so also." He told her before turning to his dresser and bringing out a pair of pajamas.
Lorabelle blushed as she propped herself up with her elbows and waited for Ben to give her something to wear to bed, "Are you sure that is alright?"
"If you're comfortable with it." Ben said as he handed her one of his t-shirts and pair of sweat pants which were sure to be a bit big on her. "We're just going to sleep, love. Nothing more." He promised before disappearing into the bathroom to change into his pajamas and brush his teeth.
Changing into the pajamas, Lorabelle pondered his words. 'We're just going to sleep... nothing more' Lorabelle thought curiously as she gathered up the clothes she had borrowed from Gina and headed over to the bathroom to put them into the hamper. Knocking on the door, Lorabelle called as she leaned back against the wall, "What did you mean when you said we were just going to sleep and nothing more? What else is there but to sleep?"
Ben blushed a deep red as he realized his mistake, stepping out in his sweatpants. "Ah, nothing to worry about tonight, love. Let's get some sleep." He urged as he took Lora's hand and led her back to his bed where he set his alarm before curling udner the covers.
"If you say so." Shrugging it off, Lorabelle slid beneath the covers and curled up next to Ben. "Goodnight Ben," Lorabelle murmured softly through a yawn as she rested her head upon his chest.
Ben sighed happily, glad that Lora hadn't pressed the subject and wrapped his arms around her. It was a few hours before Ben was able to sleep so he pondered about the subject of what had just happened. How was he going to explain such things to Lora? Why hadn't such subjects come up in her world? Sighing as he thought about what he'd do int he future, Ben placed his head in Lora's neck and forced himself asleep.
As the sun rose, so did Lorabelle. Rubbing her eyes, Lorabelle quietly slid out of Ben's embrace and sat up in the bed. Running a hand through her hair, Lorabelle smiled down at Ben's sleeping figure before slipping out of the bed and heading to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.
Today's meal? Chocolate chip waffles. It didn't take long for Lorabelle to figure out the waffle maker, though it did take a lot of charred and uncooked waffles. Smiling as they started to come out edible, Lorabelle started making enough for she and Ben to eat for breakfast before grabbing the orange juice from the fridge and getting two glasses. |
Ben sighed when his alarm went off, smacking it with his hand before sitting up and rubbing his head. "Lora?" Ben asked to the empty spot beside him. He wondered where he could've gone before rememebring her new habit of cooking them breakfast.
"Lora?" Ben asked as he stood up and walked out to the kitchen where he spotted a pile of chocolate chip waffles. "My favorite." Ben exclaimed happily as he sat down. "Thank you!" He smiled cheerily, his morning getting better. |
"You're welcome!" Lorabelle smiled over her shoulder as she took the last of the waffle batter and made another waffle. "But I think we need to go shopping today. I kind of used all of the eggs and milk," Lorabelle said with a nervous laugh as she ran her and through her flour tinted hair. Bringing the plates to the table, along with silverware and syrup, Lorabelle sat across from Ben with a grin. "But they look better than my pancakes, right? I think I'm getting the hang of this cooking thing," Lorabelle added proudly.
"I think you are to." Ben said between bites of waffle. "And we need to go shopping anyways to get you some new clothes." Ben said before smothering his waffles in maple syrup. "Do you think we could leave around 1?" He asked. "I only have one class this morning then we can get some lunch and shop afterwards." He offered.
"That sounds fine to me," Lorabelle nodded before taking a sip of juice, "Are you sure you have the money for both, though?" The concept of currency, what it bought, and how much it bought still confused her completely. She understood the basics--that currency was the human way of trading--but she couldn't quite grasp what the currency was worth. After all, it was just a bunch of metal and some paper.
"Of course." Ben nodded. "I have alot of scholarships and grants from the school so I have a bit more spare cash then some of my friends." Ben assured her. "Don't worry about that, Lora. I'll get you some clothes of your own." He said, giving her a smile as he finished his breakfast and took a long drink of orange juice.
Lorabelle smiled as she ate her waffles, "I'll be sure to have the apartment clean and lunch ready for when you get back. Oh! Do you think we could visit the man who gave me apples? He was very kind to me and I would like to thank him!"
"The man who gave you apples? If we can find him, Lora, then I'm sure that's fine." Ben smiled at her as he picked up his dishes and made his way to the sink to clean them. "Do you remember where his store is?" He asked curiously.
Lorabelle shook her head before taking a sip of juice. "No, I'm afraid not. I just know that he was along the main street of this city and he was selling my favorite apples," Lorabelle explained as she finished her waffles and brought her plate and silverware to the sink, "I would know him if I saw him, though. Do you think it is possible to find him easily through the crowds?"
"I don't know about easily, but I'm sure if we try we can find him somehow." Ben said as he finished washing the dishes and dried them before putting them away. "But I need to get ready for the day." He said as he walked over to Lora, giving her forehead a small kiss before wandering to his bedroom to change.
