Damien got into a car and immediately scooted over so Rose could sit next to him. As soon as she was settled in, he draped an arm over her shoulder. The car had three other people who were talking, so he leaned closer to murmur in her ear, "Have I yet mentioned how lovely you look?"
Sera grinned when she saw a sort of bird exhibit and went to go look. Hey, birds were pretty to look at. |
Rose blushed a bit.
"You're too kind to me," she murmured back. "You look wonderful, too." Taylor followed her, knowing exactly how much Sera liked the 'interactive' exhibits. At least she wasn't in the habit of really terrorizing the animals. |
Damien smiled a little. "I only speak the truth," he couldn't help teasing gently.
Sera grinned and was content to just watch the birds for now. They were all pretty, and there were a few small children terrorizing them, so she felt that adequate entertainment. For the moment. |
Rose rolled her eyes and leaned against him a little. She would admit, she liked it when he said nice things to her like that.
Taylor put an arm around Sera's waist and pulled her close. "Enjoying yourself so far?" he asked. |
Damien just grinned and stayed there with her, quite content for the moment. Besides, he didn't have to do anything just yet. Life was good.
"Mmhm. Are you?" Sera looked over at him curiously, cuddling into his side. |
The ride to the wedding venue was rather cramped and uncomfortable, but not too terribly long. Thankfully, it wasn't too far away, and they were able to get out of the minivan relatively soon.
"Yeah," Taylor replied. He pulled her closer and gave her a kiss. |
Damien was glad to be out of the car. And very glad he had good control. Because that was not a pleasant trip. But at least it was over, and maybe he'd be able to find an alternate route back to the house.
Sera smiled and watched the birds, although she had to grin when one got fed up and bit an annoying little kid. |
Rose climbed out of the car and stretched a bit. It was nice not to be crammed in with the rest of her family. Smiling a bit, she reached over and took Damien's hand.
Taylor watched the little bird and very subtly released the tiniest bit of his power, soothing the bird and bringing it a little closer to him and Sera. |
Damien held onto her hand and waited for people to start flocking in the correct direction. It was kind of funny, actually. To him, anyway.
The little bird cheeped and hopped over towards them, looking at them with its head tilted to the side. Sera grinned briefly. At least it was a cute little bird. |
Rose let everyone else start heading into the church, and then followed the crowd. It was easier to get in once the crowd had fought their way inside. It wasn't that hard to find a seat once they were inside, although the two families were separated to either side of the church. She glanced at Damien as she sat down.
"I have no idea how long this is going to be," she said. |
"Well, at least we're not right up front where they can see if we look bored." Damien shrugged a little and settled into his seat, getting comfortable. He had the feeling this would take a little while.
|
"True," Rose replied. She didn't get the chance to say anything else, though, because the ceremony started quickly once everyone was seated.
Rose was actually bored silly after the first half an hour or so. It wasn't what was considered a 'typical' ceremony, and the priest chanted in monotone for most of it while the bride and groom just stood there. Finally, the ceremony ended and everyone was released for the reception. |
Damien was more than happy to get out of there. Okay, he'd been to weddings before, but they'd been shifter weddings. Much, much shorter and more interesting.
He moved a little off to the side to get out of the way of the mass of people and looked at Rose. "You okay?" |
"Just bored," Rose replied, stretching a bit. "That was a bit ridiculous." She glanced around at the crowd. She thought the reception was starting soon... "I don't see my cousin anywhere, and the reception can't start without them." She rolled her eyes a bit.
|
Damien snickered. "Maybe they're off taking pictures? Or just off away from the families having a longer wedding kiss?" He grinned briefly.
|
"Pictures were before the wedding, I think," Rose replied. "Because I heard someone saying that he dropped her by accident in one of them." She glanced at the clock. And continued to keep checking over the next hour, until her cousin and his bride finally arrived.
|
Damien was having trouble containing his laughter at that point. Apparently they'd really wanted to consummate that marriage.
|
"Took them long enough," Rose muttered as everyone was finally let into the reception venue. Everyone had been forced to wait so that the bride and groom could be the first to see the venue. She nudged Damien, grinning just a bit. "And you hush, it's supposed to be their day."
|
"I didn't say anything," Damien said with a huge grin. He'd just been thinking it. And he knew some other people had been too, so he wasn't alone in that.
|
"You were thinking it," Rose accused teasingly. "I know you were." Taking his hand again, she found a place to sit to wait for the reception dinner to be served.
|
"I'll admit to that." Damien settled in next to her, relaxed once again now that people were settling down and weren't so antsy.
|
Rose rolled her eyes and gave him a quick kiss.
"You've been hanging out with Taylor too long, I think," she teased. |
Damien laughed quietly. "I can't help it; I blame him. He lives off company." He grinned at her. "Although I don't qualify for that kind of company."
|
Rose bit her lip to cover a distinctly undignified snort.
"I doubt Sera would take it well if you were," she replied. "Besides, you're mine, nobody else's." |
"Very true." Damien grinned, quite content with that answer, and stayed there. Yea, life was good. And he got to go on a free sort-of vacation. Even better. With Rose. Which just made it that much more awesome.
