Damien sighed but didn't say anything else, just parking and letting her and Taylor into the house.
|
Rose went inside quietly and put her things down. Taylor, on the other hand, stayed outside for a little while longer. He didn't want to be around anyone for a few minutes.
|
Damien put a soda in front of her, giving her a faint smile. He knew Taylor needed a bit of time, so he just made sure the guest room was clean.
|
"Thanks," Rose said quietly, accepting the soda and curling up on the couch.
Taylor sat outside on the front steps, trying to keep himself under control. His mind was all in tangles over his worry for Sera, and he wasn't entirely sure he was safe to be around. |
"No problem. I'm going to check on Taylor and I'll be right back." Damien leaned down and kissed her quickly before he moved over to check on his friend.
"Need any help?" He looked down at Taylor. |
"I feel the distinct desire to drain someone dry," Taylor replied quietly from where he was sitting. "Until that passes, I'm not going inside."
|
"Probably a good idea," Damien agreed mildly. "Take your time. Let me know if there's anything else I can do."
|
Taylor nodded.
"I'll be inside... at some point," he said. |
"Take your time," Damien said again. "I'll be inside." He patted Taylor's shoulder gently before heading back inside.
|
Taylor nodded and let his friend go.
Rose was still curled up on the couch when Damien came back inside. She moved over to make some room for him when he came in. |
Damien sat next to her, relaxing there and leaning his head back against the couch.
"Well, things went to hell in a handbasket surprisingly quickly." |
Rose tucked herself against his side, snuggling close.
"Yeah," she replied. She was quiet for a moment. "I'm scared." |
"We'll make sure Sera's okay," Damien said quietly. "We'll take care of her." He pulled her closer.
|
It took a while before Taylor even went inside. When he did, though, he was quiet and just sat down at the kitchen table. He was damn sure he wasn't going to get any sleep, even if he tried.
|
Damien was still up with Rose. No one was sleeping much that night, he figured. He was just waiting for the morning now to drive them over to see Sera.
|
Rose was cuddled up to Damien, reading something on her phone. She wasn't planning to get any sleep, so she was trying to keep her mind occupied for the moment.
Taylor stayed in the kitchen by himself for a few more minutes before wandering into the living room and picking up the remote. No reason there couldn't be any mindless TV for the time being. |
Damien snorted briefly at the show on SyFy but he left the remote to Taylor. Hey, mindless noise might help them settle a bit.
But only a bit. He knew none of them would really settle until they could see Sera. |
Rose ended up drifting off against Damien a little after three in the morning, but Taylor didn't sleep. He just made sure he was ready to go the next morning to go see Sera.
|
Damien woke Rose about half an hour before they had to go, rousing her gently.
"Time to wake up," he said quietly. "We're leaving in half an hour or so to go see Sera. And you need breakfast." |
"'M not really hungry," Rose mumbled as she woke up. She hadn't slept well at all, and it showed. She stretched a little. "Let me go change."
|
Damien nodded, letting her take her time. He knew better than to rush her, after all.
"You need anything before we go?" he asked Rose as he stood to go make a bit of coffee. |
Rose shook her head a bit.
"No," she replied. "I'll get something later if I need it." |
Damien nodded and let her go change while he made coffee. They still had a little bit of time, after all.
|
Rose disappeared into the bedroom to change into other clothes. When she emerged again she was in jeans and a shirt that weren't wrinkled, and her hair was brushed out. Going into the kitchen, she took some of the coffee.
Taylor was already in the kitchen by this point, making breakfast. He glanced over when Rose walked in, and then turned his attention back to cooking. Even though he'd heard when she said she wasn't hungry, he still made enough for all three of them, anyways. |
Damien had made enough coffee for them, and he poured himself a cup before going to sit at the table for a bit. He figured he might as well.
"Come sit," he told Rose, keeping an eye on her. |
