"You don't have to," Rose said. "You could stay here if you like, but I really doubt you want to deal with LaRhonda and Richard..." She glanced back at the counter, and the aforementioned pair ducked back behind a doorway. "On second thought, you may be better off following me back."
Damien chuckled and nodded. "Alright. I'll follow you back." He motioned for her to go first, holding the door open for her.
Rose reached behind the counter to grab her purse, and then went out the door, thanking him mostly out of reflex. Once she was in her car, she pulled out her phone and sent a message to Sera.
-Why did Damien just show up at my library?!- She paused after that semi-hysterical text, and then sent another one. FYI he's following me back because I didn't exactly bring decent jeans with me to work. |
Damien got in his car and waited for her calmly, turning on his music.
Sera got the texts and started laughing. -Well I told him where you work once, like a few days ago, but I didn't tell him when you work. I didn't think he'd actually show up.- |
You~! Rose almost face-palmed. We'll be there in ten minutes or so. Setting her phone in the cup holder, she turned on the car and turned up her own music. Country always put her into a good mood.
Sera grinned and laughed at that text, lounging on her bed again with the snake.
Damien followed her calmly, driving just a little bit behind her. |
The drive wasn't all that long, and Rose was able to leave enough space for Damien to park, as well. Out of habit, she slipped her cell phone into her purse, along with her keys.
"Ignore the cat hair everywhere," she said. "My cat sheds, no matter what I do." |
Damien chuckled quietly. "Don't worry, that doesn't bother me," he assured her, looking around. He noticed the snake tank, absent the snake.
"Well, it's not as huge as I thought it would be. You must have scaled her back." |
"I try to be her voice of reason, when I can," Rose said. She almost tripped when a big, fluffy black-and-white tomcat was suddenly underfoot. Out of reflex, she picked him up before he could get himself stepped on. "Alright, this is my dad's cat, and I have no idea what he's doing here. Crazy demon cat..." she added under her breath, albeit affectionately. Said tomcat purred loudly.
Damien chuckled and held out his hand to the cat, his eyes almost seeming to glow for the briefest of moments. "Hey there," he said, starting to rub behind the cat's ears. "Guess you're a mischief maker, huh?"
Rose walked over to the couch and dropped the big cat onto it.
"My mother thought she was being clever when she named him Sirius Black," she said. " He's probably already pissed off Lana. My cat isn't all that pleased with company... Anyways, make yourself comfortable, I just need like ten minutes." |
"That's fine. Take as long as you need." Damien sat down next to the cat, starting to play quietly. And if the cat happened to let something slip about Rose, well, he wasn't complaining.
Rose ducked into her bedroom and found her own cat louging on the bed.
"I'm about to be obnoxious, my beauty," she murmured as she picked up the cat. She tossed the cat out of the room and closed the door so she could change. The cat looked oddly offended, but she was also spoiled rotten. Rose quickly changed into a pair of jeans and a nice, though casual, shirt. She didn't bother picking a new pair of shoes, since her black and white lace ballet flats were good enough. Brushing her hair out, she pulled it back in a bun and then went back out into the other room. |
Damien waited for her quietly, unbothered by the cat hair getting on his jeans. He didn't really care.
Rose came out of her room again, leaving the door open just enough so that the cats could get in and out if they wanted to. She couldn't hold back an small grin when she saw her father's cat draped across Damien's lap.
Damien looked up at her and smiled a little. "I think he likes me," he said, scratching the big cat's chin. It didn't help that he'd been spoiling the cat the entire time he'd been there.
"He likes attention," Rose replied. "He's not usually such a lapcat, though. He's more of a troublemaker most of the time." She grinned a bit. "And had I remembered that my parents were going on vacation, I would have realized that my dad was dropping the cat off today."
"That's fine. I guess he'll just have to content himself while we're gone." Damien smiled a little.
"He'll be fine," Rose replied. "They'll both end up getting a can of wet food as a treat tonight, I'm sure, and it'll just spoil them both more."
Damien laughed quietly and pet the cat one more time before carefully moving him off his lap and standing. "Well, whenever you're ready to go."
"Ready when you are," Rose replied, making sure everything she needed was in her purse.
Damien smiled and nodded, leading the way to the door and waiting for her to lock it behind her. Then he opened the passenger door of his car for her.
Rose slid into the passenger side of the car. It was a much nicer car than hers, and she had no doubt that it ran a lot better.
"So, do you know what movies are playing?" |
"Well, there's a Twilight parody movie out now," Damien said with a grin. "That looked funny. Or there's an action movie."
"Not the parody," Rose replied. "That just looked dumb. The action movie wouldn't be too bad, though."
