"I may as well come with you, then," Rose replied. "No need to waste the gas coming back here when I could just tag along."
"Alright, then." Damien led the way out to the car again, holding doors for her and letting her lock up the house before he started driving. "I'll have to think of something for dinner, then."
"You haven't planned anything yet?" Rose asked. She grinned. "Some date you are," she teased.
"Hey, I didn't know if you'd agree," Daemon teased right back.
"I'm not complaining," Rose pointed out.
Damian merely chuckled and got out once they got to the grocery store, starting to look around. "So, what sounds good?"
Rose grinned.
"Surprise me," she said. |
Damien chuckled and shook his head, starting to look around the store and getting a few things.
Rose tagged along with him, trying to figure out what he might be planning by what he picked up.
Damien got a pork lion, a rub mixture, a salad, and some fresh veggies. Then he went and paid, grinning briefly at her.
Rose followed, intrigued now. She was by no means a good cook, so she wanted to see what he would end up doing.
Damien took them back to his house. "Feel free to settle in, sweets." He opened the door for her and looked around. "If you see a big cat, he's mine. He may act tough, but he's a big softie. Pet his stomach and he'll love you forever."
"I hope you see the irony in that," Rose teased as she followed him into the kitchen. She wanted to help, or at least watch him cook.
"Yes, I did notice that," Damien said with a chuckle. "I didn't think you'd really mind." He went into the kitchen and set the bags down, getting out the pork loin first.
"I don't mind at all," Rose replied. She grinned. "Obviously, I'm a cat person."
"Good thing too." Damien grinned and started working on the pork loin, rubbing in spices.
Rose stayed out of his way, watching him work.
"I doubt we would get along otherwise," she said. |
"Well, we could," Damien said quietly. "I'm a shifter, so I can turn into anything. Cat just happens to be my personal preference. We usually have one. My mom loved becoming an owl. I tried it once but flying was a lot harder than I thought it would be, and my dad liked to turn into a bear."
"I read a book kind of like that, once," Rose said. "It was this cheesy dimestore thing, but the idea was similar."
Damien nodded. "Well, that's how it works with true shifters. With Weres, though, they can only shift into that one animal. Fox, wolf, bat, snake, whatever it is they are."
"It's weird," Rose commented softly. "It's like... like the entire world opened up. It's fascinating, though."
Damien nodded again. "Yeah. My parents didn't tell me until I'd hit puberty, because that's when we first start to change. You can imagine how that went."
"Puberty is hard enough on its own," Rose replied. She'd been hit hard by it, and it hadn't let her go almost until she'd turned twenty.
"Yeah, it was definitely tough," Damien said with a grimace. "I got through it though."
"That's good," Rose replied. She was quiet for a moment. "So... what made you want to live here? The town's not all that big, I'm sure there are more interesting places in the city."
