The man's eyes flashed briefly but he didn't protest again. Yet. "You're a good dancer, my dear," he said, turning his gaze back to Sera.
Sera didn't get a chance to respond, since he melted back into the crowd to wait. She glanced at Taylor. |
"Are you alright?" Taylor asked her softly once the newcomer moved off again. "Not dizzy, lightheaded, anything like that?"
"Um. A little dizzy, I guess. Mostly confused." Sera frowned at him, obviously confused.
"Alright," Taylor said. He took her hand gently. "Come on, let's go sit down, get you some water or something."
Sera nodded and took his hand, following him over away from the dance floor.
Damien frowned when he saw them, a little worried. |
Taylor took Sera over to the table where he saw Damien and Rose and had her sit down next to Rose.
"Keep an eye on her," he said to Damien. "I'm going to get her a cup of water." |
Damien nodded. "You feel okay?" he asked Sera.
"Yeah, just a little dizzy. Too hot I guess." Sera managed a weak smile. |
Rose laid a hand on Sera's arm once her friend sat down. She wasn't too warm at all. That meant something else was up.
Taylor came back a few minutes later and handed Sera a plastic cup of water. "Here," he said. |
"Thanks." Sera sipped from the cup and shivered a little. "Cold water."
Damien glanced at Taylor, getting worried. What the hell had that been, to do this to her? |
Taylor sat down next to Damien and Sera.
"Damn it, we may need to run someone else out of town," he said lowly to Damien. "I'm not entirely sure what he was, but I might have a vague idea." |
"What do you think?" Damien asked quietly, keeping his eyes on the girls. There was no way that guy was getting anywhere near them.
"I'm not entirely sure," Taylor replied, "but I think he was some sort of siren. I'm not certain, though."
Damien nodded, still frowning. Sirens were rare. He'd never seen one before. That automatically meant bad news.
"Any suggestions?" |
"I have no idea," Taylor replied. "He seemed focused on Sera... and I'm wondering if he would have focused on Rose as well, if he'd seen her."
"If he had he wouldn't be in one piece," Damien growled quietly. He was definitely more physically violent about Rose, and he didn't care if Taylor teased him.
"I figured as much," Taylor replied. He knew very well how Damien was about Rose. "I don't like him around Sera, either... What do you think we should do about him?"
"I dunno. He obviously did something to Sera." Damien frowned a little.
"And I have no idea how to help," Taylor admitted. He had no idea if his particular talents would be of any use, and it was always bad experimenting with someone's mind.
"You could always go screw with him," Damien offered. "Would probably work."
"I might," Taylor replied. He glanced at Sera and sighed. "She's going to hate me again for a while, but if it protects her..."
"She'll get over it." Damien shrugged. "Do what you have to do and ask for forgiveness afterwards. maybe you'll get lucky and she'll even understand it was for her own good."
"I'm going to have to stock up on ice cream again if she figures it out." Taylor sighed and stood up. "I'll be back."
"Good luck." Damien watched him go before turning his attention to the girls again.
Rose was keeping an eye on Sera. She didn't like the dazed look in her friend's eyes, but had no idea what to do about it.
Sera didn't fall asleep or anything, but she wasn't quite able to focus the rest of the night. She stayed where she sat, holding her half-full cup of water.
"Either of you want anything?" Damien asked, looking between the two of them. "Hmm?" Sera blinked. "Drinks. Or snacks." "Oh. Um. Something with sugar in it. Please." |
