Rose noticed after a moment that Sera wasn't there. She looked around the store some, venturing further towards the back.
"Sera?" she called. "Where'd you go?" |
Another person grabbed Rose, pulling her into the back with Sera and holding chloroform over her mouth and nose. As soon as they were both unconscious, they were removed.
Rose didn't get the chance to struggle or scream before she was knocked out by the chloroform.
Her head was throbbing when she woke up again, and her thoughts were still a bit sluggish from the chemical. She glanced around, trying to find Sera. |
Sera wasn't far away, still unconscious. A bruise marred her cheek and eye. They were in a plain room with one locked door.
Rose tried to make her way over to her friend, but her limbs still wouldn't support her. She was slow coming back from the chloroform, but it looked like Sera hadn't even woken up at all yet. And where had that bruise come from...? Rose shook her head, trying to put her thoughts in order. The room was completely nondescript, plain down to the last detail. There was nothing distinguishing about it at all.
The door opened slowly and a man walked in, blonde with green eyes, tall and tanned. He looked the two over silently.
"Well, at least one of you is awake." |
Rose jumped slightly when the door opened, and scrambled backwards a little. She didn't recognize the man who walked in at all.
"What's going on?" she asked carefully. |
"We are proving a point," he said, watching them both carefully. "So long as you cooperate, you will not be harmed. You have nothing to worry about."
"Proving what point?" Rose asked. Somehow, it didn't make any sense. "Who are you?"
"Nothing you need worry about, human." The man glanced between them. "Your friend should be waking up soon. Just stay here and don't try to escape. You will regret it."
Rose blinked when he called her 'human.' That scared her more than anything, because now she really had no idea what was going on or what would happen to them.
The door shut again and they were left alone. Sera groaned softly as she started to wake up.
Rose heard the groan and went over to her friend.
"Sera?" she asked softly. "Are you alright?" |
"Ow..." Sera whimpered as she sat up, holding her head in her hands. "What happened...?"
"I don't know," Rose replied, helping Sera sit up. "I just woke up a few minutes ago... I don't know where we are or anything."
"I feel like I got hit with a sledgehammer," Sera groaned, putting her head down and trying to block out the light. She felt really horrible.
"You kind of look like it, too," Rose replied. She hesitated a moment before continuing. "Sera... The people keeping us here... I don't think they're human."
Sera paused, thinking through that before asking quietly, "What makes you say that?" If they weren't human, well, she was scared. They were officially screwed.
"Because one guy walked in, and called me 'human,'" Rose replied. "He didn't call me 'girl' or anything, he specifically called me 'human.'" She bit her lip. "I don't know what to do..."
Sera took a deep breath, regretted it, and took a smaller one. "Okay. We just need to stay calm. We won't try anything stupid. Not yet."
"Right..." Rose said. Pulling her knees up to her chest, she wrapped her arms around her legs. "I don't even get why they took us," she said. "I mean, it's not like we're all that important, right?"
Sera shrugged helplessly. "I don't know," she said quietly. "Maybe we were just unlucky..."
"Then we're really, really unlucky," Rose replied. She sighed and rested her forehead on her knees. She would feel a lot better if Damien were there... She felt safe with him.
Sera stayed where she was, trying not to touch her bruised cheek. That really smarted. She wanted to get out of there.
The two ended up just sitting there for a while alone. Nobody else came into the room to check on them or anything, which unnerved Rose.
