Sera sat up as soon as the door opened, and she jumped at Taylor when he appeared.
Damien padded down the hallway after him, edging around the other two to get Rose. |
Taylor caught Sera as she jumped at him.
"Are you alright?" he asked her, moving them both to the side and out of Damien's way. "You're not hurt or anything?" Rose scrambled to her feet when the door opened, but she was definitely not expecting a lion to walk into the room. Up until that moment, she hadn't actually equated Damien with the term 'shapeshifter,' but now it was kind of right in her face, and she didn't know how to react. |
"No, I'm okay," Sera said, hugging him tightly. "Just really glad you're here."
Damien walked over to Rose and sniffed her a couple times, making sure he couldn't smell any blood or anything on her. Then he rumbled quietly and sat down, his tail flicking from side to sit as he just looked at her. |
"I told you we'd find you," Taylor replied, holding her close to him. He glanced over at Rose and Damien, and started to nudge Sera out of the room. "Come on, let's give them a bit of space."
Rose still wasn't quite sure what to think. She was a bit apprehensive, like any sane person would be with a lion sitting in front of them, but she wasn't necessarily scared. Tentatively, she held out one of her hands to him. |
Sera blinked but complied, going out into the hall. She saw all the blood in the main room and shut her eyes, shaking just a little. She couldn't help it.
Damien immediately rubbed his head against her hand, like any tame housecat might do. A low rumble came from him, as close as a lion got to a purr. |
Taylor just led her out of the building the rest of the way.
"You can open your eyes now," he said gently once they were out in the open again. Rose relaxed at that, enough to lean forward and wrap her arms around his neck a bit, burying her face in his mane. She felt safe again now that he was there. |
Sera nodded and opened her eyes slowly, glad to be away from the scene. "I'm glad you came."
Damien let her, half-hiding her with his head, protectively. |
"I wouldn't have done anything else," Taylor said. He pulled her close to him. "I'm sorry about trespassing in your head, though. I didn't mean to stumble in without your permission."
"We should go home," Rose murmured after a few moments. She didn't want to let go of him, though. Reluctantly, she did, and stood up again. |
"Oh. Yeah." Sera couldn't quite find it in her to be mad at him just then. "It's okay. It turned out to be for the better, so you're forgiven."
Damien nodded and nudged her legs, leading her out of the place and back outside. He shivered briefly. He'd have to change back soon; he was getting tired. |
"Good," Taylor said. He gave her a kiss. "I'll take you out for ice cream anyways, if you want."
Rose paled and felt vaguely nauseous as she saw what had happened to the pack, and she hurried out of the building before she could get sick. |
Sera nodded her agreement. "Sounds good," she managed to say. "Can we go home now?"
Damien kept himself between her and the horrors inside, nudging her gently over towards his car. Taylor might have to drive, though. |
"As soon as the other two come back," Taylor said, glancing back towards the building. Once he saw Rose and Damien in the doorway, he pulled the car keys out of his pocket. He already figured he would be the one driving back, and he didn't mind.
|
Damien nudged Rose towards the back seat, where he could lay down and be close to her. Sera got in the passenger seat, still shaken.
|
Rose got into the back seat, moving all the way to one side to give Damien room to get in.
Taylor waited until everyone was settled before starting the car to head back home. |
Damien stayed in the back with her, making himself as small as he could manage. He didn't want to squish her on accident or anything. But he did end up with his head resting across her legs, anyway.
Sera had her arms around herself, staring out the windshield. She just wanted to go to sleep. |
Rose didn't really mind that he was resting across her lap. She was more relieved to be safe again.
Taylor drove them back to the girls' place first. From there, they could decide who was staying where for the night, because he doubted Damien would want to leave Rose alone again after what happened, and he knew he didn't want to leave Sera by herself. |
Sera didn't feel like staying at the house, since Damien had gotten out as soon as Rose did and started to nudge her inside. So she stayed in the car, thinking. She could always get a hotel room for the night, since she'd never actually spent any money shopping.
Damien waited semi-patiently for Rose to open the door to the house. |
Rose went and opened the door. She was almost tempted to tease him about not having apposable thumbs, but she resisted.
Taylor noticed that Sera wasn't getting out of the car, and had a fair idea as to why. "You can spend the night at my place, if you like," he offered. |
Damien followed her inside, growling quietly when he saw one of the cats. He wasn't in the mood to share right now. The cat streaked away, and he rumbled at that, almost laughing.
Sera shot him a quick smile. "Thanks," she said quietly. "I don't feel like putting up with those two all night." |
"That was mean," Rose chided half-heartedly. "You know she's spoiled."
"I don't blame you," Taylor replied, backing the car out of the driveway again. "Come on, let's leave before Damien realizes he never left a spare set of clothes here. That text is always amusing." |
Damien just snorted and nudged her towards the stairs. He was stubborn. And much bigger than her.
Sera snorted. "You're assuming, of course, that he'll even need them," she said dryly. |
"I'm assuming nothing," Taylor replied. "That text will eventually arrive. Whether it's in ten minutes or tomorrow is the only question."
Rose was perfectly capable of taking the hint, and made her way upstairs. |
Sera just shrugged, unconcerned, and settled back in her seat until they got to his place.
Damien followed her up the stairs and to her room before sitting in the doorway, his tail flicking back and forth. |
The drive back to Taylor's place was fairly short, so it didn't take long to get there. Getting out of the car, he went and unlocked the door.
"Make yourself at home," he said. Now that Rose was effectively cornered in her bedroom, she sat down on the bed and waited to see what would happen next. |
"Thanks." Sera slid out of the car and headed inside, immediately going over to the couch and plopping down with a heavy sigh.
Damien let out a huge leonine yawn before he stretched and laid down, deciding whether or not to shift back. |
