Alfie took the controller back once Gian had finished the third level, a grin back on his face. Alfie had a crooked, lopsided sort of grin...a lazy one, to say the least. "I don't think the series is popular enough for the fourth to be translated. See, it's been out for a while..." He frowned but didn't stop concentrating on the level he was trying to complete.

The look on Shadow's face suggested that he found Hebs' bright red face adorable--he reached up to brush a few of his bangs out of his face, but they ended up uselessly falling back down into the same place over his eyes. "...And what would make you think I'm not capable of it? I am very much human...and yet, I'm not...I suppose you could have suspicions, logically..." He fell silent for a moment and then folded his arms across his chest. "Make sure to watch the oven...we don't want the brownies burning."

harakun 02-27-2011 11:21 AM

"Ah," was all Gian could bring himself to say before he'd yawned widely and put his hands on the floor, just a little behind him. He licked his dry lips wet and silently watched Alfie play. "We'll just have to try and befriend a Japanese man and a game programmer then."

Hebs was taken aback at those fingers of Shadow's brushing his hair aside so... gently. That felt unnatural but nice. He just wasn't sure why he'd felt something odd in the pit of his stomach. "Yeah, uh, about that..." The snake teen's face was still colored and he made a face with it. "Smack my head again, will you?"

Mira-Charma13 02-27-2011 11:27 AM

Alfie snickered. "You mean you'll have to. I can't exactly walk around that well in public...looking like I do. Maybe a wheelchair would work, but I don't think I'd be able to sit still for that long, haha..." He scratched his head once he finished with the level and offered it to Gian. "I think Shadow knows Japanese."

Shadow reached forward and gently slapped the back of Hebs' head, pointing towards the oven. The brownies were not done yet, but would be in a few minutes. He didn't want his work to go to waste. "There you are. I'm sorry. I guess my looks are more of a distraction that I realize, sometimes..." It was not only a pain for them all to go out in public because of Alfie and Léan, but Shadow as well. Not for his odd looks, but for his looks in general. People would stare. Waiters and waitresses would end up tripping over tables because they weren't watching where they were going...

harakun 02-27-2011 11:46 AM

Gian blinked again. "He does?" he asked before he'd chuckled. "If that's true, then, we-I'll just have to find for a programmer." If he remembered right, he had a friend at school who seemed to be a gamer and knows how to code. Maybe he could help if he isn't so busy from school. Taking the controller, he started on the next level. He finished quicker than the last. Apparently, he was a quick learner.

Hebs was thankful for the smack on his head and he frowned at Shadow's words as he quickly moved his gaze to the oven. "It's who you are. It can't be helped," he said as he bent down a bit to curiously peer in the oven, "Even I would be tired wearing sunglasses or a mask all the time." That, and Shadow has been taking care of them. If anything, I'm thankful to him even though he's as perv- Hebs cleared his throat. He almost forgot Shadow read minds.

Mira-Charma13 02-27-2011 11:51 AM

Alfie took the controller from him when he finished his level, eager to get to playing. "It's kind of illegal to hack into the game and change subtitles and all that around, so unless you get permission and a grant from the company, then it's illegal to mass-produce it. I wouldn't mind having it for personal use, though." He nearly avoided dying near the end of the level as he finished it--they appeared to be getting more and more difficult...

Shadow grinned wryly, absently playing with his fingers. "...I don't believe in much censorship--I believe that's why you all refer to me as a pervert," he stated, amused. "Long ago I used to get shooed out of many public places for my blatant way of speaking and my outright mistrust of organized religion. The world is a much more accepting place nowadays, but many things have not changed and probably will never change."

The oven beeped, but Shadow made no move to take the brownies out. He would allow Hebs to do that, and in return he would get the first brownie off the tray.

harakun 02-27-2011 12:15 PM

Gian took the controller from Alfie to continue the game and he raised his eyebrows a little in surprise as his fingers started to move on their own accord. He didn't need much thinking. Strangely, too, he was rather good. "I didn't say-ah!" Frowning when he was close to death, there, he grumbled, "I didn't say we'll mass produce it." Quickly finishing the game, he handed the controller back to Alfie. "It'll just be for us."

Hebs took the mittens so he could take the brownies out from the oven. Making sure to put it on a steeled table, he smiled. "You're unconventional then," he said as he started to cut off the sides and into pieces, rummaged through the cabinets to pull out a plate and put the pieces on the said plate. "And you should tell me more often about your stories of the past. They sound interesting." The male took the plate where he'd arranged the brownies and he held it out to Shadow. A smile took his lips. "Now then, for you to taste it first and tell me how it is, professor Shadow." The snake teen teased the other by adding that title of 'professor'. He wasn't exactly sure what to call someone who teaches cooking.

Mira-Charma13 02-27-2011 12:22 PM

"Works for me." Alfie took the controller back once Gian had finished with his level. "Wait till you see the leader of the monkeys. Might be just because I'm half-animal, but he's adoooorable...there should be a cutscene that shows him soon enough..." Alfie passed through his level with ease--he was getting the hang of his old skills more and more--and then he snickered merrily when said cutscene came on. The leader of the monkeys was an albino monkey...he was Alfie's favorite character.

Shadow chuckled softly. "I usually don't like talking about my past. I'm a private person when it comes to my past dealings...it doesn't sit well with me to reveal my secrets, not to anyone. Perhaps in time it will be easier." He plucked one of the moderate-sized brownies off of the plate. "You take one, as well...taste it for yourself." Without hesitation, he bit into the brownie he'd picked up.

harakun 02-27-2011 12:31 PM

Gian found himself chuckling lightly at the way the other spoke the word 'adorable' and he let out a, "Ah, it's the cutscene," when the screen had turned black. He shifted to sit and lean forward a bit with his elbows on his knees and he raised his eyebrows in surprise at the albino monkey. He hadn't expected that at all. "He is cute," he said, out of the blue, as he grinned, "Why do I remember seeing a plushie of that one in the store once?"

Hebs grunted at Shadow's reply. "Well, aren't you quick to ruin one snake man's fun," he mumbled before he'd taken one of the brownies, too, and set it back on the counter with one hand. He bit into it and he felt his eyes widen in surprise. It tasted good. Heavenly chocolate. The filling made it all the better. Moaning, Hebs felt his features turn to one of bliss. "I definitely didn't make this." He chuckled and bit into it again, chewing slowly, savoring each bite he took from the dessert.

Mira-Charma13 02-27-2011 12:37 PM

"I would love a plushie of him...I could die happy, then..." Alfie cooed, wrapping his arms around himself and watching the cutscene seemingly without blinking. When it ended he gave a soft sigh and held the controller out to Gian. "Your turn. And I'm getting hungry again...I might pop out and grab a snack or something for us."

Alfie ate like...well...an animal, which he was.

"I'm a party pooper," Shadow hummed once he swallowed his first bite of brownie. "And of course you made it. I simply assisted you..." He took a few more bites of the brownie and then it was gone...he didn't want to be piggish, so he didn't bother taking another one for right now. He would leave them for later. "...Don't let Alfie eat them all," he reminded Hebs suddenly. "I just did a mental scan of the place...he's hungry again."

harakun 02-27-2011 12:47 PM

Gian laughed. Yes. He might just try and go back to that shop and see if it was still there. He'd get one for Alfie. "Yeah, sure. Go ahead." The male took the controller and looked back at the screen. When the boss had come up on the screen, he felt his eyes widen when he'd almost - almost - died. He had barely escaped there. "Whoa! Shit!" A series of curses followed thereafter while he evaded the hits and tried to attack.

Hebs blinked at that. "At times like that, I wish you were beside me. Then, I'd know when our food supply would lessen." Making a face, he picked up the plate of brownies and put that in the fridge to make them cold. He also took out some meat for Alfie. A big chunk of meat. "You think you can do your magic, Shadow, before Alfie comes to the kitchen?"

"Maybe make this my crash course."

Mira-Charma13 02-27-2011 12:53 PM

Alfie was about to get up and grab something to eat when he heard Gian's curse. He was, of course, momentarily delayed by it and he sat back down, watching the boss fight with intensity. "Oh my. Can you do this on your own?" he asked, concerned. He was going to stay and watch until Gian had finished with the boss fight...just in case he needed to take over. He was a much more seasoned gamer.

Shadow reached up into one of the cabinets. It was the one that he'd shoved all of their spices into. He took out a few exotic spices and reached into a different cabinet to pull out a can of some kind of broth. He held it out to Hebs.

"He's going to be delayed for a while...he and Gian are gaming together. Keep the oven heated up and toss this broth and two pinches of these spices into a pan...leave it set until it starts to bubble, and then mix the meat into it. It should make for a nice little snack...and it should stave off his hunger for a while..."

harakun 02-27-2011 01:02 PM

Gian had already started it. He was intent on finishing. "I'll try-what the?!" His own body had unconsciously moved to the left as he escaped the attack from the leader. He could feel his own heartbeat ramming hard against his chest and that feeling of nervousness settled into his stomach. "Wait... I'm almost..." He was far from done but he was dying. Gian continued to escape and attack in different ways.

Hebs took the things Shadow had gotten from the cabinets and nodded at the instructions. Making sure he'd done that right, he waited until the said broth bubbled before he'd pulled it out with his mittens. By the time he was finished, Gian had defeated the leader with barely a life left. He raised his arms up in victory and laughed happily as he laid down on the floor.

"Take that cute albino monkey!"

Mira-Charma13 02-27-2011 01:06 PM

Alfie clapped his hands, looking impressed. "It gets harder and harder! He starts gathering little boss minions, five of 'em, and you have to fight him all throughout the game...they're pretty tough. And you don't get to catch that little monkey till the full end of the game, either. Sucks, but at least you get to see him more!"

He chuckled. "I'm going to go and get food, now. I'm starving..." Alfie made his way quickly out of the room. He'd be eating meat for himself and he'd bring back a bag of snacks for himself and Gian to share...

Shadow watched Hebs work with a smile on his face. He usually didn't spend so much time around the freaks--he tended to like his privacy and was alone a lot. Today was different though, considering he had indeed promised Hebs he would help him with his cooking.

harakun 02-27-2011 01:19 PM

Seems like it was like that. He was lucky, though. Grinning up at Alfie, he moved to sit back up and put the controller down. "Okay," was the reply he'd given the mutated naga as he took this chance to look around Alfie's room It was pretty... simply. Alfie wasn't as complex as Hebs and it made him smile.

Hebs managed to finish it just as Alfie had decided to finally look for snacks. Grinning brightly, he turned to look at Shadow again. "Thanks, Shadow," he said, his heartfelt gratitude apparent in his soft voice. Indeed, Shadow wasn't half-bad. He actually is starting to like the guy.

Mira-Charma13 02-27-2011 01:23 PM

When Alfie wandered out into the kitchen, he smelled the food at once and flashed a glance in Shadow's direction. "So you knew I was coming, huh? Probably for the best, lest you lose everything in the kitchen. I eat a lot, haha..." He leaned against the counter next to Shadow, resting his head on his arm and closing his eyes. Alfie held unconditional trust for the man. He had shared everything with him, even things he hadn't really wanted to.

Shadow patted Alfie on the head. Truthfully, Alfie was the only member of their family that fully trusted and liked him. Even Léan still didn't trust Shadow enough to let him do some things to or with him. Alfie would let Shadow hit him if it was necessary for something he trusted him that much.

"You are welcome," he hummed, in Hebs' direction.

harakun 02-27-2011 09:26 PM

Hebs turned to look at Alfie and he smiled at the sight of Shadow patting Alfie on the head. They almost seemed... parental. The very idea, though, that Shadow looked maternal sounded odd in his head. "That you do," Hebs said as he transferred the food on a big plate for Alfie and put out some brownies, too, for the both of them and for Shadow.

"Here you two are. Leave some brownies for Gian, too, by the way." The snake man smiled at his kin. "How's the game going for the both of you?"

Gian laid back down on the floor and he stared up at the ceiling for a few minutes before he'd let his eyes slide shut. He seemed asleep but he really wasn't. He was only listening to the music from the odd game Alfie had showed him and he smiled just a tad. He could definitely get used to this life. Everyone was just kind, Léan and Kratos didn't seem to bad now that he got along with the other three members of the freak family.

This is really nice.

Mira-Charma13 02-28-2011 03:16 PM

Alfie immediately took the plate of meat and he set down the other plate, full of brownies, onto the counter. He decided to devour the meat now and just bring the brownies back for himself and Gian to share. Of course he ate piggishly. He always did. His teeth were part of the reason for why he ate so rudely...it was quite difficult to chew with snake-like fangs and sharp teeth...

When he finished with his first few bites of the meat, he looked blissful and lifted his head to answer Hebs. "It's going fine. I love to game--I wasn't sure if he'd be interested, but he seems to be."

Shadow averted his eyes when Alfie started to eat. He didn't like it when people ate without proper table manners...but Alfie had an excuse for it. So, he simply didn't watch...

harakun 03-01-2011 12:15 AM

Hebs watched with amusement as Alfie ate the food. He seemed to like it and he turned to look at Shadow with a bright grin. "Thanks again, Shadow," he said, reaching out to lightly pat the man's arm and went about to cleaning the things he'd used in the kitchen. If anything, he liked his workplace clean and he'd do just about anything to make it happen even if it meant having to have the people in the room leave for about an hour or two.

Kratos had stirred awake after a few hours and he shifted to lay on his back. His eyes were still shut and he let out a deep breath. If he wanted to bring Léan out, he better do it now before it becomes too cold later on. Not that he'd mind the cold. He was pretty much half dead with his powers if it isn't used much. Slowly opening his eyes, the man brought his hands up and stared at them for a few seconds before he'd moved to sit up and have his hand run through his hair. "Do you want to go out, Léan?" he asked as he looked up from where he was to the tank, "Just tour around the place."

Mira-Charma13 03-01-2011 03:54 AM

Alfie did not take long to finish his food, seeing as he was gulping it down like it was liquid rather than solid. He practically inhaled it like his mouth was some kind of giant vacuum. "Aaah...that was good..." he purred, blissfully, as he set the plate down and scooped up the one that was piled high with brownies. "I'm going to head back to my room...I'm sure Gian wants to dig into these brownies. ...I'd better make haste, too, since they look good and I'm still hungry. Buh-bye!"

Alfie quickly made his way back to his room, resisting the urge to start eating brownies on the way there.

Shadow remained in the kitchen, watching Hebs tidy it up silently. His gaze was calm, yet emotionless. His expression usually betrayed how he was feeling but if he concentrated enough he could wear a blank 'poker face' and confuse the people around him.

"...Hm...?" Léan stirred as well, yawning and flashing those impressive teeth. He had almost been asleep...but that was because he was bored more so than tired. When Kratos' words finally sunk in, his relaxed, limp tail curled around his body tightly and he visibly tensed. "...That depends," he said, simply.

harakun 03-01-2011 04:21 AM

Gian had fallen asleep, taking a nap while Alfie was gone. Apparently, he was quick to fall asleep but also quick to wake, which would probably explain why he sometimes let out a yawn once in a while. It's a habit he'd picked up since he had become a teen. Home, school, friends... it's become rather tiring.

Hebs could feel the eyes of Shadow watching him as he cleaned and he turned to look at him. He wasn't sure if he saw a look that resembled a poker face or one that was distant. "You okay, Shadow?" he asked as he raised an eyebrow, "What I said about you keeping your hands to yourself isn't bothering you now, is it?" Of course, he just had to add that to lighten things up a bit. It looked too serious with Shadow.

Kratos saw that tail of his curl around his body tightly. He knew very well what kind of defense stance that was. "It's fine if you don't want to." He got out of bed and walked to his closet to change out of his clothes and wear something more casual. Fixing the sleeves to his shirt, he turned to look at Léan and then glanced out at the window.

Mira-Charma13 03-01-2011 04:31 AM

Alfie didn't even knock, considering it was his own room. He just strolled in and plopped right down next to the slumbering boy. He nudged him in the side, pointedly. "I brought snacks. Some brownies, sleepyhead. Better wake up and nab some before I eat them all." Unable to resist any longer Alfie grabbed one of the brownies and bit into it, a blissful look coming over his face.

Shadow cracked a smile. "I'm fine. I'm just rather bored...I don't know what to do now..." He glanced about the kitchen absently, not really looking for or at anything. "I think I might relax on the beach for a while. Napping in the sun sounds nice, as long as I have sunscreen handy." Shadow was not the kindest person when he acquired sunburn. He would unintentionally snap at people and would hole himself up in his room to avoid being hurtful...

Léan relaxed slightly when Kratos walked away, his bright arctic blue eyes watching his every move while he fetched new clothing. "...Where do you intend on taking me?" he rephrased, suspiciously. He was expecting a public, crowded place. He was not comfortable in crowds even with Shadow...

harakun 03-01-2011 04:46 AM

The nudge woke him up and he frowned a little before he'd propped himself up on his elbow. Reaching out to take a brownie, he bit into it and blinked when he'd felt the taste all around his mouth. This was delicious. "It can't be... Hebs made this?" he asked, surprised as he shifted again to sit up and eat it eagerly. It was really good.

Hebs thought about it for a second or two. "I can put some sunscreen on your back," he offered as he finished up cleaning the kitchen and dusted his hands. Putting his hands on his hips, he looked around and smiled at the sight of the clean kitchen. That was better. It put him at ease.

Kratos shook his head. He didn't know either. "I just want to look around," was all he'd said before he'd moved back to the bed to pull out his boots from underneath. He slipped both on and worked with the laces.

Mira-Charma13 03-01-2011 04:54 AM

"Shadow probably helped him. I mean, they were out in the kitchen together when I went out," Alfie informed him, munching on his brownie with a dreamy expression on his face. "Mmm..." When he finished with his first brownie, he held himself off from digging into the rest of them on the plate. He would split them evenly with Gian.

Shadow arched an eyebrow, his gaze returning to the snake boy. "Really, now? I have to keep my hands to myself, but you don't?" he teased, standing up a little straighter. "I would not mind that, considering I can't reach my back on my own. Some swimming would do me good...I miss living near the sea." A wistful look made its way onto the man's face.

Léan frowned. Not knowing where he was going to be taken was a little frightening for him. However if he knew Kratos as well as he thought he did, the man didn't want to be around large crowds, either. So it was probably safe to assume he wanted to take him around to places devoid of people.

"...Very well. I will go."

harakun 03-01-2011 05:23 AM

Gian let out a short, "Ah," as he nodded, "That explains why it's good." He could see that Alfie liked the brownies a lot and he divided the plate into two, giving Alfie more of his share. He grinned at him and took the three left on the pile before he motioned to the game consol. "Do you have any other odd games?"

Hebs had turned crimson at that teasing question and he grunted. He was just about to open his mouth, to tell Shadow to forget it when the other had spoken again. Blinking at the wistful look he saw crossing the older man's face, he raised his eyebrows a tad in curiosity. "You lived near the sea?"

Kratos, indeed, didn't like crowded places. If he were to see a place he wanted to go to crowded, he'd definitely leave without another word. He had just finished tying his laces when Léan had said those words and he looked up at the merman just a moment in surprise. "Then... wait here." He went out to get that paperbag where the hat is and the wheelchair. As for the blanket, well, they could always use his instead. He'd never used it after all.

Mira-Charma13 03-01-2011 05:31 AM

"I own tons of odd games. Animal Crossing is hilarious, if you've ever played it. It's like a paradise for animal-lovers. ... Technically I'm half-animal, so that doesn't fully apply to me. And it's creepy. What else do I have, hmm...Destroy All Humans is fun. So are the Grand Theft Auto games. Haha, Wii Sports, too...though I tend to get a little competitive...I also have a Jaws game where you get to be Jaws, but that's extremely old and all kinds of glitchy..."

Alfie, once the brownies were separated into separate shares, dug into what was his. He shuffled a few of the ones Gian had given him over so they were equal again--he was a pig, but he wasn't that rude. ...Most of the time.

Shadow shifted somewhat uncomfortably. He would let little things about his past life slip...usually, they were never major. This he didn't deem major... "More than once. The longest period of time I lived by the sea I lived on the shores of the Mediterranean, in Italy..." He grinned, widely. "That is where I learned to speak perfect Italian..."

Léan watched Kratos leave, his tail flicking back and forth nervously. They would need to tie up his tail before they left...it had a tendency to move on its own when he was nervous and it would look suspicious if it moved while they were out in public.
