Nika shrugged. "She's more than capable of handling herself," she said quietly as she started her car, revving the engine to make them hurry up.

"I'll try," Seth said, a little doubtfully.

"She's my sister," Jason replied stubbornly. "And Aaron isn't here to look out for her, so it's my job."

Dawn hesitated, then reached out and took Seth's hand, squeezing it briefly before letting go. She looked down to try to hide her blush.

Nika snorted derisively but revved her engine again, getting impatient.

Seth blinked before he smiled, pleased, and walked over to his car. "Guess you're riding back with me."

"Guess so," Dawn replied. She grinned. "Fair warning, I won't complain about the radio, but I may change it on you a few times."

"I don't really care," Seth said with a shrug. "I listen to a couple different stations anyway." He got in and waited for her to get settled, watching as Nika immediately zoomed out in front, leading the way back.

Dawn tapped her fingers in time to the radio as the songs changed. As they got out of range of the station, she focused on the radio and willed it to change. She'd been practicing the trick, and was hoping it would work. Slowly, the radio station changed on its own to the local country station. She grinned.

"Nice," Seth said with a grin, following Nika down the highway and trying to keep up with her. "Does she always drive like this?"

"Yes," Dawn replied. "It's not as terrifying as it looks, though. I was able to sleep through it."

"I guess you can't feel it in the car," Seth grumbled. "She's pushing 90."

"You forget, she's an Ares kid," Dawn pointed out. "They don't know the normal meaning of the word 'dangerous.'" She grinned. "Honestly, she stole from her own dad, that's about as dangerous as it gets."

"She also died," Seth pointed out. "There's a reason Ares kids have even shorter lifespans than we do."

"They can also fight better than anyone," Dawn pointed out. "Nobody's perfect."

"Not even the gods," Seth added with a grim smile.

"Yeah, really," Dawn replied. "If they were, we wouldn't be here." She settled back into her seat, getting comfortable for the long ride back.

Seth drove for several hours until Nika pulled over at a little town to get gas and food. He pulled over after her, getting out so he could get gas in his car as well.

Nika glared down at her stomach, which was rumbling at her and reminding her that it took a lot of energy to come back from the dead.

Dawn got out of the car and stretched, popping some of her joints. It felt good to stand and walk around after hours in the car.

Jason couldn't help but snicker a bit at Nika.

"You go on and get something to eat," he said. "I can pump gas into the car for you."

Seth noticed and couldn't help but grin. He felt the same way.

"You hungry at all?"

Nika eyed him for a few moments before she nodded, going over to the little food shack and browing for something edible.

"Maybe a bit munchy," Dawn replied. She wasn't necessarily hungry, but a snack would be enough to tide her over for a while. She was still running off of the 'extra' energy from getting her powers back.

Seth nodded. "Want me to grab something, or do you want to?" He started filling up his car.

"I can go in and grab something, it's alright," Dawn replied. "Just don't pick any fights with my brother. Anything you want me to get for you inside?"

"Not that I can think of," Seth said. "If you could grab me something to munch on, maybe? I'll eat just about anything."

"Alright," Dawn replied. She turned and went into the building to get some munchies.

Seth filled up his car, waiting for her to come back. Nika was already back with food, slumped in the car looking half-dead. Again.

Jason noticed that Nika looked exhausted.

"I can drive the rest of the way," he offered.

Dawn came back and got into the car, handing Seth a few snacks.

Nika shook her head stubbornly. "Just gimme a minute for the caffeine and sugar to kick in," she mumbled, taking another drink from her coffee.

Seth took his snack with a smile and immediately started munching. "Thanks."
