Busted.
"What do you mean?" Dawn asked, trying to pass it off as simple curiosity. Not that it would really work against Chiron. |
Chiron gave her a look. "Come now, Dawn, do you really think I don't know what's going on in my own camp?" he asked, his eyebrows raised.
"I was kind of hoping you'd leave me to my delusions," Dawn muttered, trying to suppress a blush. She didn't really like other people knowing about her and Seth quite yet.
Chiron shrugged. "It was just an offer. Feel free to refuse."
"I'll... think about it," Dawn replied. She kind of wanted to say yes, but it wouldn't be fair to everyone else, and she would already be preoccupied with trying to get along with the Romans.
Chiron nodded. "Anything else?" he asked quietly, raising an eyebrow at her.
"No, I'll go back to the bonfire like a good little camper," Dawn replied.
Chiron chuckled but nodded, letting her go before he shook his head.
"What was that all about?" Nika asked when Dawn got back. |
"Did you know there's a Roman camp just like ours out there somewhere?" Dawn asked her as she sat down again.
"I've heard Ares muttering about Romans before, but I shrugged it off." Nika shrugged. "Could be fun."
"Well, apparently there's this 'foreign exchange' thing that goes on," Dawn said. "Every couple of years. All the cabin heads switch camps for two weeks."
Nika blinked. "Oh, wow. That could be... interesting."
"I'm not sure I like the thought of some Roman in my cabin with my brothers," Dawn said. "I'm even less sure I like the thought of being the only Greek in their cabin."
Nika shrugged. "I'll make sure they all behave. As for the Romans, well, just tell them that if they mess with you, Ares will smite them. I can pull the strings and even get a demonstration for you so they'll know."
Dawn snorted.
"He's probably got it in for me as it is, somehow," she said. "No, I'll make sure they don't mess with me. If I have to shoot someone to make my point, I will." |
Nika rolled her eyes but nodded. "It won't be so bad. You might even enjoy it."
"Maybe," Dawn replied. "I don't really want to leave, though..." She glanced over where Seth was sitting, and then looked away again.
Nika noticed and smirked. "Well, it'll only be for two weeks, and you won't have to be around to listen to anyone pining this time."
"Did I tell you that my father tried to warn Seth away?" Dawn asked. "Threatened to shoot him without even actually showing up."
Nika shook her head. "Fathers," she said emphatically.
"We managed to spawn from two real winners," Dawn said dryly. She stretched her arms up a bit. "I need to start packing my things, I think. Two weeks in the Roman camp..."
"Hey, you can always threaten them with me," Nika said with a big grin. She'd just love an excuse to go to the Roman camp and kick their asses into line, too.
"They don't have the 'fear of Nika' instilled in them yet," Dawn pointed out, grinning. "I doubt any of them would know what I would be inflicting on them."
"I could always give them a demonstration." Nika's grin was slightly creepy and evil. She'd been learning from Ares.
Dawn just rolled her eyes. She was used to Nika by now.
