"Asclepius would be helpful after a fight, I'll give him that," Jason replied. "I took healing lessons from him, so I would know. But Aristeus is a beekeeper, he's useless to us in this situation."
"Again. He could probably be used as a distraction or a roadblock, and nothing more helpful." Nika grnned at that thought. It was kind of hilarious, actually.
Jason snorted.
"No kidding," he replied with a grin. He glanced over when Dawn came back into the room, dressed in clean clothes and her hair braided back out of her eyes. "So do we have a plan?" Dawn asked as she sat down next to Seth again. |
"Yeah. I call in the cavalry, because at least my family is good for something, and we do all the fighting. You brainiacs figure out what the hell is going on and how to reverse it, and we potentially use Eros and Aristeus as roadblocks and/or distractions."
Dawn snorted.
"I can't see Aristeus being pleased about that," she commented. "Although I suppose he could make himself useful with a bow, if he had to. Maybe." After a moment, she reached over for the TV remote. "May as well see if there are any reports on what happened earlier." |
Nika nodded and shifted so she could see the TV, watching as the news came on. There were pictures and live footage of the remains of the police station, where they were digging out some people. But so far she hadn't heard anything about monsters.
Dawn bit her lip a little, and Jason tensed in his seat. Neither of them liked being so far away when there were people that needed help, Jason especially. He was a healer, after all, and there were people hurt.
"We should be there helping," he muttered, staring at the screen. |
"No, we shouldn't," Nika said, looking at him. "Trying to help apart from volunteering to unbury people would get you thrown in a cell, same as Dawn was. People don't understand us, and they don't want to understand us. Leaving them alone is the best option."
Seth bit his lower lip. Hey, he wasn't crazy about humans, but he didn't dislike them, either. He wasn't a healer, but even he hated seeing scenes like that. |
Jason growled in frustration. He was a healer, damn it, he was supposed to help. He didn't like sitting there doing nothing.
"Later. After we've cleaned this mess up we'll see what we can do for them without getting in trouble." Nika looked at Jason again, very serious about that.
"Later isn't going to help the people injured now," Jason retorted. Dawn reached out and put a hand on his shoulder.
"Easy, Jason," she said softly. "I know. But she's right. They're not going to listen to us, and they'll see Nika and I and probably even claim we started everything. It's best to lay low for now." |
Nika settled back down again, trying to figure out how best to approach the situation. And who of her family to contact first. Probably Calix.
"So when do we want to start this mini-war?" |
"Once we know exactly what we're fighting," Dawn replied. "We need to figure out why and how the monsters are coming back so damn fast, and we need to know how to make it stop."
"Any ideas how we go about figuring that out?"
Seth shrugged. "Short of going to Olympus to take a look around? None whatsoever." |
Dawn thought about that for a second.
"You know, it might be possible," she said cautiously. "To get in and out without being caught. For one person, it might be possible." Not for a group, of course, but perhaps one demigod could do it. She glanced hesitantly at Seth. |
Seth nodded. "I could do it. No problem." Probably. As long as he didn't get caught. But he was good at not getting caught.
"I was hoping you could," Dawn replied. "If any of us, it would be you." Because a son of Hermes had the best chance of sneaking around unseen.
Seth nodded. "Yeah. I know a way up there, and I should be able to get in okay, at least." He stretched a little before settling down again.
"Just be careful," Dawn said softly. She heard her brother snort, but he didn't make any sort of comment. She was grateful for that.
Seth nodded. "Don't worry, I will be." He was quiet for a moment before he sighed. "I should probably go get a few things before I go."
"Do you want me to go with you?" Dawn asked. "It's safer than any of us going alone anywhere." At least, that was her primary excuse, if she needed one.
"Sure. I could use some company." Seth shot her a brief grin and got up. "So we can head back to my place and then I'll go see what I can do about getting in."
"Alright," Dawn said. She got up as well and looked at her brother. "Lock up the apartment if you two leave," she said to him. Jason rolled his eyes, but nodded. He had a spare key. Grabbing her weapons and her car keys, Dawn looked at Seth. "Ready when you are."
Seth nodded and settled in to her car to direct her to his apartment. His was smaller than hers, but it was still his own apartment, and he was only two hours away with decent driving and mild traffic.
"I think I get every radio station known to man," Dawn commented as she drove. "And maybe a few others besides. And a lot of it is commercial-free." She smirked slightly. "Best thing about this car, aside from the ride."
