Dawn blushed slightly.
"No problem," she replied. She unconsciously leaned a bit closer to him. |
Seth held her closer, content to do that for a few moments. "Why don't you come sit once we have food?" he suggested quietly. "Just for a few minutes?"
"Alright," Dawn replied reluctantly. She still didn't feel like she really deserved to rest like the others did.
Seth smiled a little and good his food, making sure she got some as well before he steered them over to the couch. And he kept his arm around her so she couldn't just bounce back up again.
And she tried to. As soon as she'd inhaled her slice of pizza, Dawn tried to get up again to go back into the kitchen, but he was holding her down.
"Let go," she said softly. She was feeling a bit confused now; she enjoying having him hold her, and she wanted to stay close to him, but she also wanted to get up and prove (even if only to herself) that she was just as useful as everyone else was. |
"No," Seth said simply, pulling her closer. Because while he didn't know exactly what was going through her head, he knew it was something that was bothering her, and he didn't want that. "Not until you tell me why you're determined to keep running around."
"It's nothing," Dawn replied, even though she knew she was a terrible liar. She had to say it, though. She didn't want to worry him when he should have been taking the time to relax.
Seth gave her a look. "It is not nothing. If it was nothing you wouldn't be so fidgety. Please tell me?" He shifted to look at her.
Dawn bit her lip for a moment, hesitating.
"I don't like not pulling my weight," she said softly. "I don't like being less useful than everyone else." |
"Who says you were less useful?" Seth said, looking at her with a little frown. As far as he was concerned she'd done her part.
"I do," Dawn replied. She hunkered down in her seat a bit. "I don't feel like I really did anything. I mean, Jason was healing people right and left, Nika beat Pan into the ground, even you had an excuse because you were dead. But I just... kind of ended up running around not doing much."
"Except for going to get me," seth said, looking at her. "I mean, you only went to go face down Hades, and you only half-dragged me out."
"I didn't have to face down Hades," Dawn pointed out. "You annoyed him enough on your own for him to give you back. And you did most of the work coming back, anyways." She sighed and looked down.
"But you still went to get me. And you're the only reason I made it out. If you hadn't kept hold of me and if you hadn't been humming..." Seth trailed off with a brief shiver.
Dawn bit her lip a little and leaned against him hesitantly.
"I couldn't lose you," she whispered softly. |
Seth smiled a little and pulled her closer, into his lap. "I'm glad you came back for me," he said quietly. "And that you didn't just leave me there."
Dawn snuggled close to him, a bit clingy.
"I couldn't just leave you there," she replied softly. "I had to go back." |
Seth was quiet for a few moments, just staying there and pulling her closer.
"You could have left me there," he said quietly. "But I'm glad you didn't." |
Dawn just curled up in his lap and laid her head on his shoulder. She needed the comfort at the moment.
Seth was more than happy to hold her, comforting himself with the knowledge that he was no longer dead and that she was fine.
Dawn ended up drifting off to sleep against him. She hadn't napped earlier with everyone else, and really hadn't gotten any rest since before the incident in DC, and it finally caught up to her as she snuggled with Seth.
Seth was happy to stay there, keeping his arms around her as he napped on and off. Hopefully now they'd have some time to just relax and enjoy life for a bit.
Plus he wanted time to test and see how far Dawn would go with him now. |
Dawn stayed snuggled close to him even when she woke up again. She didn't want to let go of him just yet, not when she'd finally been able to relax enough to get close in the first place.
Seth wasn't quite awake when she woke up again, his arms still around her as he relaxed there. He blinked a few times when he felt her moving, instinctively pulling her closer so she couldn't go anywhere.
"Hey," he murmured, his voice still scratchy with sleep. |
"Hey," Dawn murmured back. She laid her head on his shoulder. "How did you sleep?"
