Faith grinned a bit.
"Sure," she said. She hoped they would be able to do something like this again as well. She had a lot of fun with him. |
Corey grinned and slid off Vyren's back to swim back to shore. It was getting late, and he was getting tired. So he headed back to the eyrie, Vyren following him.
|
Faith didn't even bother getting off of Lapis's back. The dragon just made her way to shore on her own. Faith did slide down so that Lapis could shake herself off, though. Gathering her things, Faith put her glasses back on and went back with her dragon to the eyrie.
|
Corey left briefly to wash himself off, mainly to get all the sand out of his shorts and hair. That would not have been fun to sleep with, and he wasn't a big fan of sand. But then he returned to Vyren's eyrie, where the dragon had heated himself rapidly to dry off. Though still warmer than normal, he was careful not to become uncomfortable to his rider.
|
Faith took the time to shower off and change into something comfortable for sleeping before going back out to the eyrie to settle in with Lapis for the night. She passed Vyren's eyrie on the way and waved to Corey before going in with Lapis.
|
The next three months passed very quickly. By the time everyone was ready to go, Corey and Vyren were both getting antsy. Vyren had grown a little more, and Corey had his harness adjusted so that he could wear it again. Vyren had grumbled again, but with more use the harness had become more supple, and Vyren still didn't like it but he got used to it, and it didn't chafe anymore.
So when Corey was told he could leave, Vyren leapt into the air quite happily, circling once to let all the dragons get in the air before he started flying for the mountains. Xander watched them go, rather sad. She wasn't going with them. Not yet at least. |
Faith had also needed to adjust Lapis's harness, although the dragon still hated the thing. Lapis was now noticeably larger than Vyren, although neither were fully grown yet. Once all of her things were packed, Faith climbed up and gave Lapis the all-clear. Lapis jumped into the air immediately, eager to get home again.
|
Vyren led the way back towards the mountains, flying over the ocean easily. It would take a while, but he could fly for that long, and he didn't mind. So he checked on the rest of the dragons to make sure they were all following before he continued, eager to be home.
It took them a few hours of straight flying to get there, but they landed just a little ways outside the Mountain weyr. Vyren settled down, stretching out his wings briefly before settling them. He could already see dragons from all the land weyrs, and a river dragon or two. He snorted and headed for the eyries. He wanted his own eyrie so he could carve it out to his design now. |
Faith was more than happy to let Lapis take her straight into one of the open mountain eyries. Lapis had claimed it for herself before they had left, and it was still just as plain as before. Faith barely managed to slide down from Lapis's back before the dragon grumbled happily and flopped over to roll around a bit.
So good to be home, Lapis purred. Faith grinned. "I'm glad you're happy," she said. She shifted her bag on her shoulders. "I'm going to go up and settle back into my room. Let me know if you need anything, alright?" I will, Lapis said. With that, Faith took the ladder a little further up the side of the mountain and then followed the path back to the weyr proper. Ryan followed the group across the ocean and to the mountain weyr. He and Yue both noticed when the air started to get a bit cooler, and Yue relaxed as it did. Once they got to the mountain weyr, they followed the rest of the non-native riders to the temporary eyries. It is much nicer around here, Yue said as she got comfortable in the eyrie. Cooler, drier, and no half-breed fire dragon two eyries away. Yue, be nice, Vyren didn't bother you that much, Ryan chided as he for Yue out of her harness and set it aside. It is a fact, Yue replied, slightly puzzled. He is a half-breed. Still, be nice, you don't know if any desert dragons are going to show up here, Ryan replied. True, Yue replied as she settled in for a nap. Once she was settled, Ryan followed the other non-native riders up into the weyr proper. |
Corey let Vyren get all settled in back in his own eyrie, and he made his way back to the main weyr. It was just about dinnertime now, and he would leave Vyren to get all settled in now.
|
Faith went towards the mess hall once she dropped her things off in her room.
"It feels so nice to be home," she said as she sat down with Corey. Ryan glanced around the mess hall, and immediately went over to Corey and Faith. "It's different around here," he said. "Yue likes it more than the forest weyr, at least." |
"I know. I didn't realize how much I'd miss being here." Corey smiled a little.
"Not quite home for you but one step up from the forest weyr?" he asked with a grin. He could guess that Yue was a little picky. |
"According to Yue, it's cooler and drier up here," Ryan replied. "A little closer to the climate back home."
"Lapis is rolling about happily in her eyrie," Faith commented. "I think she's going to start decorating it soon. She's so pleased to have her own mountain cave back." |
"I'm not surprised. Vyren is already working on hollowing his eyrie out to his specifications." Corey grinned.
"And it is noticeably cooler up here. It is nice, I have to admit." |
Faith snickered.
"Better be careful, or he'll put in his own pool of lava or something," she teased Corey. Ryan was about to comment when the weyr rumbled and shook a little bit. It wasn't much, barely noticable, but he definitely noticed. "What was that?" he asked. |
Corey blinked. That was different.
"It felt like a little earthquake," he said, glancing over at Faith. "Don't think I've felt that before. Odd." |
Faith blinked and shook her head.
"I have no idea where it could have come from, this high in the mountains," she said. One of the older riders looked over at them. "It was probably one of the younger dragons just coming into their abilities," he commented. "Sometimes we can feel the quakes here, even though the eyries are a ways off." |
Corey blinked at that. Abilities? No one had taught them about that before...
"What do you mean?" he asked, looking over at the older rider. "What abilities?" |
"Ah, I see, you're one of the newer ones," The older rider said. "That makes sense. Well, most dragon species have their own special talent, you could say. Mountain dragons can create earthquakes. Nothing world-shattering, mind you, but still fairly impressive."
Ryan nodded in understand. "I get it," he said. It was like Yue and her ice-breath. She hadn't had the ability from birth, she had come into it later on. The other rider nodded. "There are about six or seven younger dragons in our eyries right now that are about the right age for it," he said. He nodded to Corey and Faith. "Including your two." "That's fascinating," Faith said as she listened. She hadn't known about that... Although she and Corey hadn't exactly stuck around to learn everything before going on the exchange. |
"Huh. Neat." Corey grinned. "Hey, I wonder if Vyren will be able to do that or not."
|
The rider shrugged.
"Won't know until it happens," he said. "Bailey came into his a little later than most, but all mountain dragons will get it eventually." Clearly, Bailey was his dragon. Faith snickered. "Lapis will probably try to shake gems and metal out of the ground when she comes into her ability," she said. |
Corey snickered as well.
"Sounds about right," he said with a grin. "I wouldn't be surprised if Vyren could find lava or something." |
Faith grinned.
"He would," she agreed. "I wonder who it was that caused that quake? I don't think it was Lapis, or she'd have said something to me by now." |
"Could have been one of the others that are about their age," Corey said reasonably. "He mentioned there were six or seven, so it could have been one of the others."
|
"Probably one of the others that hatched the same time as Lapis and Vyren," Faith agreed. "Weren't there a few others? I don't remember exactly how many." She'd been slightly more focused on her own dragon hatching that day, she wasn't paying any attention at all to the others.
