(Papillon&Faerie) To Love Beauty and a Beast
Since the dawn of Creation, Goblins and Fairies have been interlocked in conflict. The Goblins held strength most dear as they created their race. The first Goblins mated with animals and other magical creatures to bring powerful magic and blood into their species, however, it came at a cost. The Goblins are feared for their hideousness. In their pursut of strength they left behind all else, they may have gained the advantage in power, but they lost all chances for true love. The Fairies were silly creatures as their race was born. They saw the Goblins destroy their appearances and decided instead that Fairies must be pretty. The Fairies found beauty in nature and took from it, gaining delicate and beautiful magic and pleasing faces. "Silly Fairies," the Goblin would complain when they saw the beauty in their brother race. "Ugly Goblins," the Fairies would reply in between their merriments, however they secret wished for the power they did not possess. The two races were then locked in their never ending conflict. Strength versus Beauty, Goblin versus Fairies. But now, the two Kings of the different races have found themselves with a similiar problem. They both desire a queen. "Hold the mirror steady!" Guyon, the Goblin King ordered his wobbling, feather covered servant. "Y-yessire!" the creature replied as he attempted to stop his squirming so that the King could finish his daily primping. Guyon was the son of the greatest King the Goblin race had ever seen, known as Gancor the Great, and with all the expectations put on him he was sure to be just as great. However, Guyon had other plans. He didn't wish to be the greatest Goblin King as all of this advisors and subjects commanded him, he merely wished to be the most handsome. "I do look very good for being a Goblin," he replied as he continued to brush his satin raven hair before tieing it in a bow at his left shoulder. His feathered ward only nodded in fear of being scolded again. Guyon stared at his reflection for a moment. His skin was a pallid blue (the color of a frozen corspe) and his lips were a ruby red (like a drag queen). Smiling he revealed his silver colored fangs to be examined before moving on to his eyes. They were large, round, and yellow, reminding the King of a canine and his hand matched the assumption. One of his hands was not a hand a at, but rather a paw of some sorts, covered in dark grey feathers that extended up to his elbow and forearm. At least he was mostly man shaped. He had taken some of the styles from the humans earlier days, the days before they were corrupted of course. His button up shirt was nicely pressed and his vest was a bright shade of burgandy while his trousers were neat and tucked into the tops of his socks. He fixed his bow in the mirror once more before letting out a content sigh, he was as good as he was going to get. What Guyon didn't tell anyone was that he hoped to be able to find his true love. He dreamed of meeting a beautiful girl who would love him despite his deformities and would also grow to love his hideous subjects. He sighed at the thought of holding his love in his arms and stroking her soft cheek... "Guyon! Guyon!" The Goblin King was broken from his reveries when one of his advisors rushed into the room. "We have an emergency!" Juliette Rose Emerson stared at the empending house before her. Her knees were shaking as she looked back to her friends who had issued the dare. "Are you guys sure I should be doing this?" She asked as she retreated a few steps. "I could get in trouble for trespassing or something." Juliette was the new kid at Jolly Hearts Prepatory School for Young Girls and her new 'friends' had told her that to be a Jolly Heart, she would have to break into the old mansion down the street, a mansion that they all said was haunted. "Yes, and remember, you have to bring back something from inside so we know you don't chicken out!" Mable was a larger girl with auburn hair and bad skin, she seemed to "rule the school" as some would put it and had told Juliette about the dare. Juliette reflected on the girls pushing her into the dare. She was very well aware that she was prettier than all of them with her bright blond hair that fell to her shoulders in a fashionable cut and her large green eyes were surrouunded by thick lashes. She knew she was beautiful, maybe that was why it was so hard for her to make friends, she reflected. Juliette straighted out her school uniform, praying that she wouldn't get it dirty if she was made to go through with the task. "BaBak!" Mable was doing a chicken impersonation, lovely. Juliette's tan skin grew pallid as she bit her plump lips, a habit she had developed when she was nervous. Dare she go into a house that was supposedly haunted, risk tresspassing and being eaten by some undead creatures all for the admiration of prep school girls? Juliette thought about it for a moment before coming to her decision; she did dare it. |
The fairy king regarded the members of his court who had dared displease him. Leaning on his elegant hand, the fairy frowned in their direction. Rhys, magnificently winged and born with grace and poise that others envied, could be cruel. Closing his amethyst eyes, he sighed and waved one of his guards forward. "Prepare the hunt." It was all the king needed to say in order to make the courtiers fall to their knees and beg for mercy.
The hunt, the wild hunt, was the worst punishment fairy kind had to offer. Once called, the hunt would not end until their prey had succumbed. Moving with a lazy grace, the king stood and walked past the gibbering masses of his subjects and out of his throne room. Tendrils of his shoulder length chocolate colored hair flew behind Rhys as he went to lock himself in his room. They had supplied information to that brute of a goblin! The hunt was the least of what Rhys should have made them go trough. Sighing, the king sat down upon his soft bed and regarded the his sumptuous suit. Sometimes, loneliness assailed him, making him volatile without reason. In this manner Rhys had lost many people, and not all of them to the right kind of causes. Adelaide Isadora Harper was reading. She walked without paying any real attention as to where she set her feet. She knew the path like the back of her hands, having walked home from the library countless times in much the same way she was following at the moment. Her strong hands held the book delicately, and her curling reddish brown hair was pulled back in a ponytail. Her clothes weren't anything special, just a simply blue t-shirt and black jeans. The twenty year old was always distracted, or too focused on simply one thing. As she walked, she didn't notice how things around her seemed to change. Trees seemed to grow out of nowhere, looming menacingly above the young woman. Still, she didn't notice. Adelaide was far too engrossed in her fantasy novel to note any of the changes taking place around her. It was only when her feet met ground which was not pavement that she frowned and took her nose from her book. Gravel, surrounded by black soil... Strange deformed plants... It seemed like she had walked right into a Tim Burton movie, and not one of the more pleasant ones either. Her green eyes widened with some mixture of emotions she had no idea how to name. |
Guyon followed his Goblin Guard through dark stoned passageways and up inky black stairs that seemed to lead to Heaven itself. He was given a black cloak as they walked and he draped it around his shoulders as a sign of his authority when he arrived at court. He had remained silent, never asking what the emergency was or showing any form of emotion on his pallid face. He always looked very somber when he was sent to court because he knew it was never a good thing. The Fairies had given them a run for their money since the beginning of time and if ever there was a Goblin King who hated the Fairies, it was Guyon. Because of his deep rooted desire for affection and beauty, he despised the silly winged creatures because they were so naturally lovely and were free to feel emotions that he could not. Guyon’s scowl deepened into his face as he continued the long climb up the stairs. When he finally reached the top with his guard he followed more winding corridors before arriving at a very long metal door with strange writing etched into it. The guard lowered his head as his King passed by him and stood in front of the door saying a strange, guttural language.
The letters on the door began to shift and change until finally the door opened, offering a metallic greeting to its King. The Goblin Guard remained outside as the door came to a loud thunk. The room was filled with goblins of all shapes and sizes. Some had fur or feathers with others had whiskers and pointed ears. Each goblin was more hideous than the next but they all had one thing in common. Their clothes were of the highest fashion. Amidst all the ugly deformities of Guyon’s subjects they all wore rich colors in grand designs. The women wore large gowns with ribbons and lace in bright colors and the men wore dark coats made from expensive fabrics and patterns. Goblins, however ugly, were very fond of their clothes because it was as close as they could get to experiencing beauty. The crowd was silenced when the King walked in and they parted down the middle of the grand room to allow him space to walk to his throne. Guyon briskly walked down the aisle created for him to sit on the elegant chair while his advisors approached him with the news. “Sire,” a bird beaked goblin said with his head bowed. “We have a situation.” Guyon raised a black eyebrow at the advisor. “What sort of situation?” he replied coolly. “Well, some of our scouts have seemed to detected something while on patrol,” the bird goblin squawked. “Detected what?” Guyon wished his advisor would get on with the point however he kept his public face up as he rested his cheek on his pawed hand. “It seems they’ve found a human girl.” Guyon stood quickly up. This was the chance that he needed! He would bring the girl back to his castle and she would fall in love with him and they would be wed and he would find happiness! “We must go get her. Ready five of the guards to escort her back to the palace,” he commanded in his kingly tone. “Excellent idea, Sire, she could be a spy for the opposition!” Guyon kept quiet at this remark. Juliette tumbled over the top of the Iron Gate, head over heels. Her school uniform skirt was snagged on a bar and ripped along the side on her knee was bleeding, so far so good. The three other girls stood on the other side of the gate telling her to “keep going” and that she “could do it”. At eighteen years old Juliette had never experienced the easy life. Her parents were divorced and she lived with her mom, who worked three jobs just to send her daughter to an expensive school like Jolly Heart so Juliette was determined to make her mother proud of her and that meant making friends. She stood from the stop where she had fallen and dusted herself off before trudging up to the old house with a renewed vigor. The doors of the old mansion were falling in on themselves and only required a gently push from the blond to collapse. “Hello,” she called, even though she knew the house was empty; she half expected some ghosts to come jumping out at her. Cautiously she stepped over the decaying door and into the hallway. There were holes in the floor boards so she had to be careful to watch her step as she maneuvered over to the stairs and slowly climbed up. “Bring back something from the bedrooms,” Mable had said, “they say the owners and their family were murdered in their rooms and that’s where their spirits live!” Juliette silenced the memory as she grasped firmly to the handrail and watched for holes in the stairs. Finally she made it to the landing and headed straight for the first door. It had obviously been a little girl’s room because the pink wallpaper, although peeling from the walls, could be plainly seen and rusted toys laid scattered about. Juliette searched about the tattered room in hopes of finding a special trinket she could take back to her prep school friends; however in her searching she heard a small noise. Thump thump, thump thump, thump. The noise was getting louder and louder and it sounded like heavy boots on the floors. The stories were real! The house really was haunted! Juliette felt her flight instincts start to take over and the overwhelming fear gripped her heart. Quickly, she dived into the wardrobe in an attempt to conceal herself for the paranormal. Dust and cobwebs greeted her and she squeezed between the drawers and hid behind the pieces of clothing. She went to scoot backwards until she was at the back wall of the wardrobe, however no matter how far she crawled she never reached the back. After a moment and several feet later she made contact with the other side and fell through a new set of doors. When the girl got over the momentary confusion she sat up and cleared the dust from her eyes. She wasn’t in the deserted haunted house down the lane anymore, she was in a bright room and she wasn’t alone. |
((LOL Someone's read Narnia!))
Rhys was staring at the decorations in his rooms. Flowers grew freely on the bed posts, and captured sunlight glowed in glass globes here and there. The bed spread was a deep rich red color, something which his subjects hated since it reminded them of the goblins. The king stood, brushing his rich green tunic off before moving to a mirror opposite the bed. Tilting his head, he regarded his elegantly pointed ears and sighed. To find a queen who would not want him simply for his position and wonderful appearance.... That would be a hard task indeed. It was then a strange sound caught the fairy's attention. Turning, he saw a human girl upon the floor of his bedroom. "Guards!" As soon as the steel armored guards entered the room, Rhys pointed imperiously at the human woman. She would be questioned, then perhaps she would be allowed to return to her people. That was only if she knew nothing about the manner in which she had arrived into the fairy realm. " Prepare her for questioning." Once they left, the king prepared himself. Changing clothing to impress and inspire awe, the fairy took his time. A dark blue long sleeved shirt, with much silver embroidery, covered his torso. Then came the light fawn colored pants and dark leather boots. After that with quick movements King Rhys marched out of his room. "What will you do with the human? Most of the courtiers demanded this question from their king. Instead of answering, he waved them away. Walking trough the corridors, he pondered the situation. Flowers and light abounded throughout the palace, but once the lower levels were reached things changed tremendously. Darkness reigned there, along with frightening flowers and plants secretly stolen from the goblin's kingdom. Razor edged flowers of neon hues lined the corridors as he stepped into chamber suited for interviews. The surrounding area didn't improve one bit even after twenty minutes of walking. If anything, the less then solid ground was getting marshier by the second. Dangerous looking, but enticing, flowers abounded as well as the strange spindly bamboo like branches which protruded here and there from the ground. It was then that Adelaide head them approaching. The young woman tried running, still with her book clutched in her hands, but found that she couldn't. Five creatures in ornate armor approached. "Can we play with her?" A small thin lizard scaled creature with bat wings pipped up. "The King is going to want to talk with it," stated a pig snouted creature as it moved forward to grab Adelaide roughly. She was so shocked she didn't move to run as they escorted her away. These five... Things, reminded her something she had read of. It was like a huge mishmash of books and movies, since they resembled trollocs, those frightening creatures from The Wheel of Time series. |
Guyon stood pacing about his court. The other Goblins had been ordered away while he was left to deal with the human trespasser. Secretly, the Goblin King wondered what she would look like and prayed that she would think him not so hideous. If he could perhaps be charming enough, maybe she would find it somewhere in her heart to love him even though he was a monster. Guyon sighed as he twirled the end of his long pony tail with his magical paw.
In the Goblin race, the King was the most human shaped out of all his subjects (with the exception of a few of the offspring of captured Fairies) and his deformity was usually the cause of his great power. Guyon’s feathered paw had been a very strange malformation because it was a strange combination that the Goblin’s hadn’t yet seen in their King’s. The blue Goblin proved to be exceptional with his magical abilities and the kingdom took this as a few good sign for the future of their race. Goblin’s were known for stealing human and Fairy brides because they admired the other creatures for their beauty, however, human girls and especially Fairy woman had a very difficult time adjusting to life in the kingdom and for that reason his advisor’s had made it very clear that he was not to marry one, or marry at all for that matter. “We can’t have you running about tied around the finger of some mortal, or Heaven forbid a Fairy, while we are about to win the war! One of the lords will step in as King when you have died, don’t concern yourself with getting a bride!” The words still echoed in his mind and caused him to flinch. Guyon, however, was a very stubborn King and did not plan on giving up. He was brought back from his thoughts when he heard a loud knock on the metallic door. The King waved his paw and the door flew open and his five guards ushered in the human girl. That curly red hair, that strong frame, those eyes! Guyon took in the girl’s appearance before quickly shooing his guards away with his paw again. They left the room after having thrown the girl to the floor in front of the King. “Well, hello there,” he cooed as he offered his human-shaped hand to pull the girl up. “I’m Guyon, King of the Goblins, what might your name be?” Juliette was only given a moment to process the brilliant room before she was startled by someone yelling “Guards!” She jumped to her feet and went to dive back into the wardrobe from which she had come but found the back to be quite solid as she banged away on it. Strong arms grabbed her and pulled her away from the standing closet however and she was dragged out of the room. A million thoughts and emotions ran through her mind as she struggled for her freedom from the armored men. Would they do some sort of strange experiments on her? Would they torture her? Question her? Would they kill her? Juliette’s heart began to race. She shouldn’t have been feeling such dark emotions in a place as beautiful as this. Flowers were blooming and glowing orbs gave off a beautiful light, but then the flowers grew less frequently and the lights dimmed down as they pulled her down stair flights and twisted, thorny plants and darkness were all that was left. She felt hopeless. Like her life was being stolen from her as the scenery changed to fit her mood. Juliette could feel her death approaching. Who was going to tell her mom? Mable and her group weren’t going to try to find her that was for sure. She was going to lay as a corpse in a strange dungeon for the rest of eternity and no one would even know where she had been spirited away to. Suddenly, she felt her bravery return as she stood to her feet, dusted herself off and paced about the room. The guards here didn’t look that tough, okay, well, they did, but they certainly didn’t feel as desperate as the eighteen year old so she felt she could take them. When the next person opened that door, she decided, she would attack! |
After checking himself one last time, the king entered his interview room. It was a dark but comfortable place, more eerie and haunting then frightening and gruesome. Rhys was prepared for anything as he entered, then went to sit down on the wood grown chair. Opposite him was a stool of moss, comfortable enough but he preferred sturdy wood to dirt and plants. Absentmindedly, the king wondered about this human but not too much. They tended to wander into fairy territory often enough.
Placing an elegant hand upon his lap, he smiled dazzlingly in the human's direction. "Please take a seat, I simply want to discuss certain things." Always the truth left his lips, as it did that of all fairies. They were incapable of lying, or at least of saying anything but the truth. Fairies had become adept at hiding truth within truth, twisting words so that what someone thought what they meant was actually completely different. No one was better at this game then King Rhys. A speculative look crossed the fairy's face. What better twisted truth, then making all believe he had found a companion at long last! It would anger the Goblin King to no end. Spies said the stubborn fool was trying to find someone idiotic enough to love him. A good slap in his face would perhaps make him commence to make mistakes in his campaigns, hence given his rial the chance to strike quickly. "Certain very important things, which might win a war as old as time itself," murmured Rhys to the girl. A mystery would attract her, of that he was fairly certain. Humans could be so predictable. They were rough, and obviously tough. Adelaide let herself be carried along, her mind was occupied with trying to come up with a crazy explanation. She wondered what they were, and why she had stumbled upon this place. It was another world, dimension or realm, whatever this place was it appeared humans weren't all that welcome. At the sight of iron doors, her mind finally snapped back to attention. The young woman knew she was in trouble. It was no doubt some fairy... No, fairies captured babies not full grown humans! After some thought, she recalled a childhood movie, a few actually, with goblins featured in them. Adelaide's eyes widened in horror just as she was roughly thrown to the floor. Her brown hued hair tumbled in disarray around her bespectacled face as she looked at the floor. A little bubble of incredulous laughter surfaced when she saw the book still clutched in her right hand. Tilting her head up at the sound of a kind enough voice, a shocked gasp escaped her. The.. man wasn't necessarily monstrous like the other goblins she'd seen so far. In fact, he almost seemed human in some aspects, but one could never mistake him as such. Guyon's words finally penetrated her brain, and his extended hand caught her eye. Cautiously, Adelaide placed her peach colored one in his blue palm. "Adelaide, of Serendipity... W-why am I here? You aren't planning on doing anything, well harmful to me are you?" Her changeable eyes were filled with curiosity, rather then fear. A small part of herself thought this whole thing was true, but the rest thought it was a dream. Even so, Adelaide was cautious with her name. It had power after all. |
Guyon watched the look in the captured woman’s eyes with care. She didn’t seem to be afraid, he noticed, maybe just a bit shaken up and it was at that moment that he noticed the fantasy novel clutched in her peached colored hand, no wonder she wasn’t scared. “Adelaide of Serendipity?” He asked as he pulled her to her feet and watched as her auburn hair strangled about. She was lovely. The King paused for a moment when she asked if he was going to harm her and a knowing smile graced his ruby lips. “I’m not going to harm you, Adelaide of Serendipity, please forgive me if my men were too harsh; I simply wished to meet the beautiful human that my scouts told me about.” He gave her a kind smile, careful to hide his silver hued fangs as he directed her towards his throne.
This Adelaide of Serendipity seemed like an intelligent woman, and Guyon admired her courage. However, he had never had the pleasure of dealing with foreign women, so he was in brand new territory. “Would you like anything before we start? Maybe a drink, or some food?” He ushered her carefully to a plush seat he had some of his guards drag in so that she could sit in comfort in front of his throne. “If you desire anything, simply name it and it’s yours.” Guyon had given it a lot of thought as to how he was going to convince her to stay long enough for her to fall in love with him, especially without his court knowing his plan. In one strong motion he flicked his black cape and sat down with one leg crossed over the other and then rested his elbow on one knee. His posture was kingly and strong but he made sure that he still appeared friendly and calm so not to scare the human woman. “Now, we should start with, how did you find my Kingdom?” Juliette had been ready to jump at however entered the room; however she wasn’t prepared for such a beautiful being to enter. She stood dumbfounded as she stared at his strange colored eyes and shoulder length chocolate brown hair. His pointed ears stuck through the lush tendrils and Juliette knew that this had to be a dream. “Uh, of course!” She stuttered as she fumbled into the moss covered stool in front of the enchanting creature. In his perfection she almost forgot how to breathe. A deep rooted lust clawed at her heart as she watched his elegant movements. “A war?” The blond repeated. “How could I help end a war?” It almost seemed criminal for such a flawless creature to be caught up in such ugly business as war. She attempt for a moment to picture his graceful frame in rusted armor and his handsome face covered in dirt and blood. It wasn’t possible. “If I can help you, I’ll do my best.” Even though she knew nothing of the ravishing creature in front of her she agreed. He could have been a cannibalistic king who ate virgin sacrifices, or have a plot to destroy some villages to build a dream house, but all those things seemed so… beneath him. “If I may, before I answer your questions, could I know to whom I’m speaking, and where I am?” She raised a thin eyebrow as examined his dark blue tunic and lightly colored pants. He seemed to be important, that much the girl could tell from his clothes, but who was he? A prince? A lord? Maybe he was just the interrogator and everyone dressed so fashionably. Juliette knew one thing however, he was the perfect man. |
Adelaide nodded as the king repeated the small information she'd given him. Looking down at their hands, she couldn't help but find the contrast to be interesting. Warm and cold colors, which seemed to complement each other in a small way. Brought form her distracted thoughts by Guyon's compliment, the young woman could feel her cheeks turn red. It was quite unusual, no nearly an impossibility, that anyone thought her beautiful. Adelaide had a strong, square jaw and full lips with rather small, but bright, eyes. These features weren't exactly the epitome of the current standards for beauty.
The throne certainly looked intimidating, which was certainly one of it's purposes. As she let herself be shown to the comfortable seat, Adelaide's mind was still reeling. "Is goblin fare as addictive as that of the fairies?" Adelaide inquired cautiously. "If not, then a glass of something to drink would be nice." A small amount of thirst had seemed to arise without her noticing until the blue skinned goblin had asked. She was in the presence of a king, and that became all the more apparent when Guyon sat upon his throne. Of course she should have know he would ask what he did. It was only common sense when a stranger had stumbled upon a magical kingdom far removed from her own. "I was reading this book, Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr. I just got it from the library you see, and couldn't wait to read it before getting home. It was the strangest thing, I didn't even notice the surroundings change while I read until I looked up..." She realized there was a chance she would never return to her world. At the realization, Adelaide's eyes widened. She was caught and drawn. The staring of the human girl made her attraction quite obvious and the king was sure she would do anything at all to please him, within reason. The contempt he felt for all races save his own filled him at the fumbling girl trying to find a seat. Flicking a hand out, Rhys made sure the guards in the room went to get refreshments. Hand signals were so useful in impressing people, making them believe his race was much more then they were. Promptly they returned to serve their king and his guest. Once the young woman hate fae food, there would be no returning to her world. "I am Rhys, the King of the fairies and you, my dear?" Amethyst eyes wide, the king forced himself to lean forward and show some kind of interest in her. By focusing on the pure golden color of her hair, Rhys could almost imagine she was one of his own people. Sipping the honey dew drink in it's delicately wrought glass, he planned and plotted. Everyone would have to believe the farce was real, save the military general, who happened to be his closet friend. It would bring about outrage within the fairy courts, but it was necessary to strike a blow at the Goblin King. Swiftly making one of those signals again, the King banished his guards and placed a spell to silence the walls. No one would hear what was said in that room from that point. Not very suspicious when one was always wary of spies and information gatherers, as Rhys was. "As for how you could help me..." , he paused before going on, "Perhaps you would consent to pretending to be my consort. The Goblin King wishes to find love more then anything else, if it seems as if I have found what he desires, well certainly he would be distraught and his war efforts would change into an all out search for someone stupid enough to fall for one of his kind." There was a dangerous gleam in his eyes, full of the need to destroy that fol and his people once and for all. How he could ever have once thought that the goblin could be his friend was beyond him. They had met as mere children, with idealistic dreams and wonderful plans. That had soon been stopped by the goblin for some strange reason, and the betrayal had never left Rhys. The king could still remember that time when they had been supposed to meet at the border of their two kingdoms, only he had gone and Guyon had not once tried to explain.. Not that the angered and hate filled fairy would ever have listened. (( Is it alright if I put in that they knew each other as kids? Thought it might be an interesting twist.)) |
Guyon’s expression went cold for a moment as the thought of the faeries and their devilish food. Goblins were so powerful that they didn’t need to resort to such tricks and he was appalled that someone would think he would, in good conscience, fool someone like that. His scowl didn’t remain long though as he remember the lovely girl in front of him, and his plan. “I assure you that our food will not at all harm you, it’s simply deer with some salt and some bread. You have my word as a King,” Guyon gave a nodding motion with his hand as though to bow to her, but of course, bowing was beneath him because he was a King. “But, if you would like a drink I can offer you some fresh wine, possibly some water if they have the new purifying spells in place.” He rang a bell that was sitting by his throne to signal the kitchen staff. They would prepare a feast for the young woman, and afterwards he would ask her to stay for a few more days, and then a few more, and a few more, until she had the proper time to fall in love with him. Of course, he would tell his court that she captured by the faeries for a time and needed a place safe from them; it would work out perfectly.
For a moment he was thrown into memories of the silly Faerie King. He was so pretty and self-centered. When they were children ,Guyon thought that it might be possible for them to become good friends, maybe the end the war through a peace treaty, however those plans had all gone up in smoke when the silly faerie sent a note that night they were supposed to meet to tell the Goblin that he no longer wished for a friendship and chose to be enemies. Guyon’s ears turned a deep shade of blue as he thought about that night. It was only when his guest spoke that he realized the anger boiling inside his chest and he quickly diminished it. “Curious, very curious,” he said as he listened to her tale. It wasn’t unheard of for humans to stumble upon their land, especially accidently like his guest described. “This must be quite the shock to you, my dear Adelaide of Serendipity. Please, I invite you to rest here for the night; enjoy some food and merriment before we find a way to send you home. Please? I do insist.” And that was that, it was unheard of for someone to ignore an invitation from the King himself, she would have no choice but to stay. At least, he hoped so. The blond stared at the handsome creature across from her with wide eyes. He was a faerie? And he was asking her to pretend to be his consort? Didn’t that mean wife? Juliette had never been very book-smart, she really hadn’t been very anything her whole life (sans when she was starting high school and played basketball on a local team). Why would this beautiful faerie ask her of all people, er, creatures, to be his pretend wife? This was all happening so fast! Could she get pregnant from a fake marriage? These thoughts swirled in the young woman’s head to create a jumbled up mess that she couldn’t organize. “Will I get to go home afterwards?” She asked. Juliette noticed the food placed in front of her and quickly picked up the utensil with a bit of some unknown delicacy and promptly swallowed. Fae food didn’t taste as pleasant as she thought. However, she didn’t want to appear rude so she took another bite, and another, and another. She found that the more she ate, the tastier the food became until she was almost craving it. Juliette bit her lip when she had finished the plate off, she had eaten much more than she expected to. It was not too long after that she realized the King didn’t even know her name. “How long will I have to pretend?” Forever? That sounded like Heaven, however she knew that was an impossibility. She needed to get back to her mother; they were all each other had. The blond placed her heart shaped head on her hands as she leaned over the table to watched the King with her almond shaped eyes. She was aware that she was beautiful. She had been told time and time again and had even had a few boyfriends to prove it; however she was nowhere near attractive enough to pull off pretending to me such a wonderful creature’s wife. The human bit her lip, it was almost as though he was hiding something…. ((oh, I'll be gone for a few days, but I'll be sure to reply when I come back. : ) )) |
She watched silently, afraid she'd said something wrong. That cold expression truly transformed the king into something alien and strange. It made her shiver silently with fear and apprehension. "Water if possible, and... You wouldn't happen to have garlic bread? I know it's a strange request." Adelaide adored eating garlic bread, it was one of her favorite foods.
The young woman didn't know why, but she felt like she could trust him. At least, the blue skinned king hadn't done anything to harm her yet. "Guyon, King... Is there something wrong?" It was shocking really, how he went from calm and collected to bursting with roiling emotions. Even someone as usually oblivious as she noticed the changes. Adelaide had to stay on his good side, otherwise there was not even a chance that she would return to her home. "And I accept." It was the only thing she could do under the circumstance. The servants were bustling about, standing beside their king and giving the girl curious glances. It was rather embarrassing. Amethyst eyes sparkling with an enticing light, he watched her thinking. Rhys rather liked watching the human eating their food, knowing that now she would always crave it. Hopefully it would make her all the more willing to become his consort, or at least pretend to be so. Standing elegantly, the king walked to stand behind the young woman. Leaning over, he placed a hand on her shoulder while the other began running trough her surprisingly soft hair. "You might not want to return, though you can certainly visit to your heart's content." It was already much too late for this girl to return to her world. Rhys rather didn't want to tell her about this so soon, instead he tried to distract her by placing a soft kiss upon the girl's jaw. "As long as it takes, does the thought displease you so? My butterfly, honey sweet, please do not distress yourself so." The Faerie King found himself to be enjoying this slow seduction, this game of tying the girl's heart to him. It would be amusing to see her as addicted to him, as she was already to the foods of fairy. ((That's alright, thanks for telling me. :D O yeah, that's a cute pic at the top of the thread.)) |
Guyon scratched his head for a moment. What was garlic bread? He paused, not wishing to appear ignorant in front of the obviously intelligent young woman. “You can of course go into the kitchen at ask them to make your favorites,” he said, hoping that she would be able to explain the foreign delicacy better than he could. He mused for a moment on what kind of world the girl had come from. Was there magic like there was here? She didn’t seem to be familiar with their ways, so maybe that meant they had no magic at all. Then again, they always had deemed humans as “normies” but did any of them really try to understand the humans' way of life? That gave him an idea. He smiled.
“Oh, I’m quite alright. Please forgive me, but Faeries and the Goblins aren’t are very good terms at the moment. Er, rather, we despise each other.” The King hoped that was enough explanation, however he guessed not and continued. “You see, the Faerie King and I were friends in our youth and we had dreams of ending the war our ancestors started, however, one night when we were supposed to meet, he instead sent me a letter that read that he would rather us be enemies than friends.” He paused for a moment as he again attempted to emotionally distance himself from the situation. “And here we are now.” Guyon watched Adelaide of Serendipity for a moment longer, hoping she would be on their side as well. After all, it wasn’t as though he himself had done anything wrong. “Enough talk of the silly, little creatures, it’s time to feast!” With that, the blue Goblin stood from his throne and elegantly walked over to the woman and offered her his hand, they were going to the dining hall and he hoped that she would be impressed. Juliette felt a primal lust rear its ugly head again as the Faerie placed one hand on her shoulder and used to the other to play with her hair. She was glad she had taken a shower that day now. But when he bent down to kiss her jaw, she knew something was wrong. This obviously was only about the war, she couldn’t mean anything to this beautiful creature and he seemed like he was hiding the fact. Juliette stood from her moss covered seat and took a step back, moving his hands from her shoulder and giving a confused glare. It was time to be defensive, which was how she always lost her boyfriends. “What do you think you’re doing?” She started. “You haven’t even asked for my name yet and you assume that I’ll allow you to touch me like that? I’m not one of your subjects,” the girl paused for dramatic effect, “You don’t own me.” Now she was warmed up. “I am Juliette Rose Emerson. I’m eighteen years old and I live with my single mother who works three jobs just so that I can have a chance at having a good education and I do not appreciate your attempt at seduction. If I pretend to be your wife, if is the key word, you can’t treat me like that. I deserve some respect for helping you.” And now she wished she hadn’t opened her mouth. Deep down she feared that the King wouldn’t want her after her outburst, but once she started she couldn’t stop herself. It was in her blood to disagree. “And another thing,” she stopped, her mouth open at her realization. “I can’t go home, can I?” |
The sight of such an austere seeming king scratching his head nearly made Adelaide burst out laughing. The young woman managed to keep her mirth hidden within her eyes as she regarded him. Guyon didn't seem so bad, in reality it looked to all appearances like he was making an effort to please her. That thought was stranger then anything else to her mind. Adelaide nodded in agreement to his words, and wondered if goblins even knew what mayonaise was.
Adelaide listened intently to this king, intrigued by the story. It seemed to her like someone might have set the whole scenario up... A well, such thoughts were normal for someone who read books ripe with political intrigue. Biting her lip, Adelaide wondered if she should say anything. It didn't seem like Guyon liked talking about the matter, which made her wonder why he'd even told her. She was a near complete stranger! As he moved to her, she placed her hand upon his without hesitation. Guyon hadn't given Adelaide any reason not to trust him, so she did. "You don't seem to like talking about them at all, so why bother telling me?" Tilting her head up, Adelaide hoped she wasn't overstepping any boundaries. Her very life depended on the good will of this man. A chuckle escaped him at her actions. Such a wonderful display of those famous human emotions! If nothing else, having this Juliette there would serve to entertain him. Rhys clapped his hands as she finished her tirade. "Bravo, you've finally shown that humans can indeed think.. At least, that some of them know about the old ways in this day and age." The king's eyes looked her up and down as he considered how to answer her. Moving forward, Rhys removed a ring from his left hand. It was a beautiful silver thing, representing a bird and flowers in one flowing whole. "You must earn my respect Juliette. It is a thing not easily given that I assure you. But, in giving you this ring I wish to show you that you may ask things of me that no other can, and I will try to accommodate your wishes." In truth, he was now bound to do exactly as he said. It was why Rhys was so careful to put in little things which would give him some leeway regarding those wishes of hers. "As for returning to your world. You can if you so wish, but you will crave fairy food. Without a taste of it, well it isn't a pretty thought. " Rhys's amethyst eyes regarded her seriously. The human's reaction wouldn't be pretty either. She was condemned to remain in the world of fairy for her ignorance. He supposed Juliette would learn in time how devious his kind were. The king's ears twitched slightly in amusement, though his lips remained firm. |
The Goblin King felt the warm skin of the human girl in his hand and felt his heart start to beat frantically. She was beautiful. Her caramel colored hair, her intelligent eyes, and strong hands and Guyon could only fear what she thought of him. His yellow eyes sparkled as he looked at her; she was truly the one for him. Now, he would just have to convince her that he was the right one for her. Guyon was broken from his reveries as she spoke again however.
“Well, you seem like a very intelligent young woman,” he said as he ushered her to the door, wrapping one of his arms around hers. “I thought you might enjoy a bit of history.” When they exited the metal doors, the palace was completely different than when she had first arrived. They lights were lit with a lovely glowing orb and the walls gave way to beautiful mosaic works of art of the outside world. The Goblin moved them towards the wall, hoping that she would find the stone creations to be intriguing at least and then tapped on the cold, rock surface with his paw. As he did this, a ripple of blue magic danced across the walls and the mosaic scenes that were depicted on the walls’ surfaces started to move. The deer twitched their ears at first, and then moved their heads and then finally pranced over to the pair as they continued to walk along the corridor towards the dining hall. Guyon knew that it was a little too bright for some of his subjects; however it was all in the name of entertaining an honored guest so he knew they wouldn’t mind the light for a few hours. “What do you think of my Kingdom?” he asked as his feathered paw stroked a two dimensional stone deer before picking a strange looking flower from the scene, and with the help of his magic the stone flower came to life complete with three dimensions and soft petals. Guyon presented the gift to the woman on his arm, noting that the flower’s beauty couldn’t compare to that of Adelaide of Serendipity's. Juliette held the ring Rhys had given her between her fingers, taking in the beauty of it. Beauty was such a funny thing, she mused bitterly; it could hide true intentions so well. The blond looked up with disdain in her stare as she slid the ring onto her thumb. “And you will have to earn mine, ‘Your Majesty,’” she gave a mock curtsy before turning away to hide her true emotion. Juliette was scared. She didn’t realize the depth of her situation until the ring was on her hand and the grumble in her stomach demanded more of the enchanted food. It wasn’t possible for her to go home now; the girl knew that it was going to destroy her mother when her only child didn’t come home that night. Mable and her friends would probably be arrested for kidnapping and the police would write her case off as unsolvable. Her life as she knew it was over. “You suck!” She turned, her hands pulling at her hair in a desperate attempt to wake herself up from the nightmare. “You suck, you suck, you suck!” Her anger quickly dissolved to a loud sob as she fell to her knees and covered her face to cry. “I want to go home!” Juliette muttered quietly as the crying died down to a soft sniffle. “I want to close my eyes and be home with my mom. Mom, Mom, I’m sorry,” she was whispering now as she rocked back and forth with her hands still covering her tear stained face. She was still attempting to convince herself that it was only a dream and she would wake up in the wardrobe at the haunted house, but she never did. Juliette then decided that she wasn’t going to give the King the satisfaction in her tears anymore and she stood up, brushing her uniform off and running her hands through her hair. “I am making my first request,” she stated as she squared off her shoulders and looked straight into Rhys eyes. “I would like another plate of food.” |
A shiver ran trough her under the goblin's gaze. Though Adelaide knew he meant her no harm, Guyon's yellow eyes caused fear to rise within her. There was something primal about them, and a danger seemed to lurk beneath the surface to her imaginative mind. Looking away quickly, the young woman tried to hide the thoughts that had risen unbidden in her mind. It was nearly impossible when Adelaide knew her trust was founded on a few simple moments and words which had no foundation at all.
She forgot those thoughts quickly enough when Guyon led her trough those imposing metal doors. The warm glow comforted Adelaide and made her smile. The surrounding area soon caught her attention, making her eyes widen at the skill needed to complete such a wonderful piece of art. She was enthralled by this beauty, and didn't even notice Guyon's movements until suddenly everything came to life. "So far... Your kingdom is full of contradictions, and I haven't seen very much of it so I cannot truly say what I feel. But what I have seen, I do like though some things frighten me." Her thoughts ran back to his eyes and the fear they had elicited within her. Adelaide could not bring herself to look upon his face, for fear that she would offend him with her flinching away. Guyon wasn't a horrible monster, he was a gentlemen. Despite those thoughts, her heart feared him though her mind did not. Moving her eyes, the young woman caught sight of what Guyon was doing. A small gasp escaped her at the sight of the flower, then his paw caught her eyes. Biting her lip, Adelaide tried to hide the recoiling of her body as she regarded this strange limb. It wasn't natural! Reaching out, she took the flower with great care not to touch the goblin king's paw. Watching her outburst with a raised eyebrow, Rhys let none of his emotions show. There was a twinge of guilt which appeared within him, though he knew the deception had been necessary to strike an important blow. Sighing, the king tried to think of something to please her. Juliette was unlike the fair women in so many ways that he had no idea how to start, though an idea came to his mind. All Rhys needed was the opportunity to put it into play. "You can return to your home Juliette. My kind speak only truth, and I mean it when I say this." She simply wouldn't be able ot stay forever. At her request, the king nodded his amethyst eyes sparkling with an undefinable emotion. Extending a hand, Rhys caught her own in his. Up the corridors they went, walking past living artwork created from flowers and trees for the oy of all. Everything was filled with more grace and beauty then the last as they moved up trough the castle. Finally they reached a balcony overlooking the kingdom. A silent message had made sure that the most wonderful delicacies which the fairies could offer were laid out before this pretend queen and the true king. Moving away from Juliette, Rhys bowed. "As you requested, my queen." Rhys turned from her to regard his kingdom, filled with light and beauty. This was something he wanted to save at all costs. ((Do you mind if I moved Juliette up to a high balcony?)) |
The Goblin King could tell that something was bothering the young woman and it was only too easy to guess what it was. He was a Goblin. She was a lovely human girl and he was the King of a mythical race that was cursed to be ugly in appearance. He wasn't a monster, he reflected, he was just... different. Guyon pushed the thoughts to the back of his mind however as the Adelaide of Serendipity spoke regarding his kingdome. It was a contridiction, wasn't it? Such hideous creatures shouldn't have a lovely place to live (and when the glowing orbs only cast out a very small amount of light, it was rather creepy). Being ugly, it was only natural to desire to control the beauty around oneself, which was exactlly what the Goblins did.
"I will be sure to personally escort you around my Kingdom one day, Adelaide of Serendipity. I can only pray that the fear you feel doesn't last," Guyon was praying. He didn't want her to think of him, or his people for that matter, as ugly. They had souls just like the Faeries did! They really weren't that different from each other, Guyon quickly shook that thought from the back of his mind. He couldn't think that his enemies were similar to himself and his subjects! They were vastly different in fact! The King turned his attention back to the beautiful woman in front of him. She had accepted the flower, but she had avoided looking at his hand, er, paw. A shudder ran down his spine. He had always thought that he was handsome for a Goblin, but handsome for a Goblin was still ugly to a human. To quickly change the subject from the awkward silence that had overcome the pair, he started to talk about his plan. "So, uh, Adelaide of Serendipity, what is it like to live in the human world?" If she was the scholar that he thought she was then she would jump at the chance to analyze her people group, and hopefully she would be willing to stay for a while longer in his world to teach the Goblins on the subject. Going home only for a brief moment would be more destructive than never going home at all. What was she supposed to say? 'Hey mom, I am the pretend queen of an imaginary world, oh, but I'm addicted to their food so I can't ever stay past meal time'? Juliette shook her head quickly to scatter the thoughts. No, her mom couldn't handle that, Juliette couldn't handle that. Life was going to revolve around breakfast, lunch, and dinner from now on. She looked up to Rhys, his pinkish-purple eyes hide his emotion so flawlessly. Did he care what she was feeling? Probably not, she was just to be used to help end a war, which in retrospect, did seem to be very noble of him. He did have to pretend that she was his wife, and quite frankly she wasn't as beautiful as he was, it must have been embarrassing. Juliette almost resisted when he took her hand, however they were leaving the room and she knew they had to be convincing in their coupledom. The castle was beautiful. It was straight out of a fairytale and the young blond was entranced with the moving paintings and bright colors that touched everything. It was so fairy-like, she thought. Finally the pair reached a large balcony that sat looking over the Kingdom. The girl couldn't believe how wonderful it was and the magnitude of her situation was dissolved. It was beauitful! She had thought the castle was lovely, but seeing everything laid out beneath them in splendid colors and designs, it almost took her breath away. Juliette only looked away when Rhys informed her that her request was ready. Her mouth watered at the sight of most of it, and her heart skipped a beat as he called her his queen. A thought crossed her mind at that point; where was she going to go after the war was ended and he wouldn't need her anymore? |
Adelaide clutched the flower in her hand as she thought of how to answer. There were so many things she could say. The young woman knew very well that she had probably offended her host in some way. That was something that had never been her intention at all. "I'm sure you'll show me wonders that will get me to forget my fears." Adelaide said with wistfulness. It wasn't a normal thing for her to judge others for their appearance, but Guyon was simply so strange that he overrode her habits.
A smile lit her face and banished her thoughts at his question. Glancing up into his golden eyes, the young woman launched into a long speech. "Well, it's certainly very different then what life must be like here. Though, there are some things that will certainly be the same... Feelings seem to transcend everything else. Anyway, we rely on electronics rather then magic to provide for light and entertainment. There are a variety of professions and a whole slew of different schooling levels and options, especially on the post secondary front. But you asked how it is to live in the human world. It's hard sometimes. We have so many complications, taxes and forms that have to be filled out... It's complicated and tedious. But then, there are experiences that make up for it. The good and bad live side by side, each person an individual with the right to refuse or accept whatever they wish. We have a democracy, where every person has the right to choose. The ruler is elected by the people, rather then by bloodlines." Blushing, Adelaide turned her eyes down. Her hair and glasses obscured her blue eyes slightly. Rhys regarded the young woman for a few moments after turning from his kingdom. Gracefully, the fairy went to sit before her and dismissed the servants placing wards up once more. It was habitual in a place ruled by politics. Even the king was vulnerable to such things. "What think you of my kingdom so far ?" Pausing he began to eat before halting once more. "I have misused you, but will do anything to protect what is mine. My people must be taken care of. One person is less important then the many. It is for this reason why I misled you." Rhys wasn't naturally so gruff and cold. The burden of kingship pushed him to be so. |
((Gah, sorry! I didn't even notice the post until now, I'm so sorry it's late!))
Guyon watched as the woman took a deep breath and launched into her monolouge. He found himself more entranced by her lips than by what she was saying, but he nodded in all the right parts and made sure to appear interested. What were electronics? He didn't want to ask the woman straight out and figure a more indirect approach would be less embarrassing. "I see, so your lack of magic has caused humans to create new ways to do things?" the King paused, taking in her blue eyes and tangled hair. "If you have no King, and the people vote, how can you be sure the ruler will not be corrupt? People can easily be swayed, I find flaws with both." They were almost to the dining room. The magical scenes followed the pair as they walked down the corridor towards the celebrations. Ceramic animals changed from deer to birds and the walls reflected back views of the skies and of the waters. He hoped Adelaide of Serendipity was pleased. Large wooden doors stood at the end of the hallway and the King waved his paw, magically commanding them to open. A large party was revealed with dancing and a stone table full of rare and exotic dishes was in the center of it all. "I was hoping to ask you later this evening, but you've given me such a lovely answer that I simply can't help myself; would you be willing to write a short memoir perhaps on the life of a human? It was greatly help us in case another human happens to stumble along into my Kingdom." He gave her a toothless smile and lead her into the loud room. Fairies might have been beautiful, but Goblins knew how to party. Juliette watched the servants leave and sat down as she picked out what she was going to eat. Some of this, and some of this, she thought as she piled unfamilar food onto her plate. The girl was already addicted to it so it she might as well eat to her hearts content. "You're Kingdom is very beautiful." Juliette replied in between bites of food. "But, it seems rather vain. It just seems a little gaudy, if you know what I mean." She didn't really mean that, but she was in a bad mood and she wanted the King to feel her annoyance. Rhys didn't seem like the type to bully people like he did (mainly Juliette) and she watched him for a moment as he started to eat before stopping again. "Are you sorry that you tricked me?" The blond wasn't looking up at him, but rather playing with her food. She was but a pawn to be used against the Goblins and her whole life was ruined because of it. When she left the human world she was forced to give up all of her dreams, she was going to go to college and become a physical therapist to help injuried atheletes, maybe meet a handsome (not Fairy handsome of course) man and settle down before having two point three kids and a white picket fence. The simple life she longed for was gone, she was now "trapped" in a mythical Kingdom pretending to be married to a mythical King. |
The brunette let herself be enthralled by the moving scenery. Of course she listened to Guyon, and couldn't help but agree with him. "True, but no system is ever perfect and full proof. The monarchy puts all the power with one person alone, which isn't fair to the people no matter how good the ruler." Feeling under dressed in her jeans and t-shirts\, the blue eyed girl concentrated on the joy of seeing magic all around her. In a way it compensated for the strangeness and other unpleasant aspects of this unexpected journey. A smile flitted across Adelaide's cherry colored lips as she thought of all the wonders she'd already been shown.
Upon hearing the king's demand, the young woman hesitated at the door. Adelaide wasn't really interested in writing memoirs, but on the other hand the chance to live where magic was a normal part of life was too good to pass up. Watchign the Goblins in their revels made her feel all too out of place. She wasn't the kind of person who took such joy in revelry as these people did. "Would you give me a few nights to consider this?" Adelaide placed her hand upon Guyon's arm, and waited to see what he would want to do next. Raising an eyebrow, Rhys laughed. It was true that his people could garb themselves in garish clothing, as ugly as they were beautiful. Sometimes, even the king was guilty of such foolishness. "Garish, and gaudy.. O yes we can also be incredibly vain. There is no denying that we are sometimes quite enthralled with ourselves." Bending down he picked up a glass and sipped the golden liquid as he turned to survey the kingdom laying below. The trees danced in the breeze as the sun set below in thousands of colors. With a soft hmm, the king tried to decided how to answer the girl. In the end, the amethyst eyed man decided that the truth was best. "Not sorry, but guilty. Is that enough for you?" Rhys murmured the words and attempted to hide the swamp of emotions beginning to rise within him. He knew very well the girl had lost her world, but perhaps somehow she could be compensated by being given a wonderful life. |
Guyon surveyed the room full of his ugly subjects enjoying themselves by dancing and giggling and eating. Would this human really enjoy his world? He would feel terrible if she didn't come to love it here, after all, this was going to be her new home (even if she didn't know it yet). His heart fluttered as she asked for a few nights to think about his request and he prayed that she would agree. It would actually be very helpful if she decided to share her vast knowledge on all things human, and hopefully she would take her time on it and come to want to live here, with him.
The merriment inside the banquet hall quickly stopped as the King made his appearance with the human girl still on his arm and a soft murmer grew over the crowd. They had been told they were going to have a celebration, but they didn't think there was a reason for it until now. "It's a human," they quietly whispered as they moved out of the way of the approaching King and his guest. "What a beautiful creature, you don't think she's part faerie do you?" All eyes were on them, but feeling that the attention would frighten Adelaide he gave his subjects a stern, commanding look and they all turned their heads and continued with their dancing and laughing. "They think you are beautiful," Guyon said after they had arrived at the table full of breads and meats and strange vegetable dishes. "It's not often that goblins see a human, but we all wish we could look like you." He seemed in thought for a moment as he ushered the woman into a chair and called for a short goblin in a very frilly shirt. "This is one of my servants," the King said. "He will take care of you, ask for anything from the kitchen, however you may have to explain it." He gave an embarrassed grin as he sat in his own, larger seat at the head of the table and began picking out foods to eat himself. "We won't stay for more than a meal, then I shall show you your room where you might sleep for the night." Juliette watched the Faerie King closely as she nibbled on the enchanted food. He was very handsome, but his eyes seemed to be clouded with a mixture of strange emotions. He looked almost tormented, but elegant. The blond didn't know if it was possible to be elegantly tormented, but she let it go as he spoke again. "Guilty?" she mused as she pushed the plate away and stood up, walking over to the balcony and looking out at the Kingdom again. "I suppose that will have to do for now, but my whole life was taken away from me and I'm not happy about it all." Sitting there eating, she had processed her attitude about the situation again and decided that her human life was over so she might as well get used to living in the world of Fae. Who knew, maybe she would enjoy living in a magical land, even one stricken with war. What if she really did help end the war? She would be a hero, and being a hero here sounded much better than being a nobody back home. Even though she missed her mother. "I'm tired," Juliette said with a thoughtful tone. "Where will I be staying?" she paused for a moment as a thought occured to her. What if they slept in the same room? Could you stay mad at him if he stripped down in front of her? The girl shook her head in an attempt to remove those thoughts from her mind. "Do I get new clothes? My school uniform is trashed from my long journey here, I will need something else to wear." She avoided looking at him as she spoke, instead taking in the sights of the Faerie's Kingdom instead. Maybe it was all just a dream. |
Adelaide clutched Guyon's arm. All those stares from such strange eyes! The other goblins were even more frightful then their king. Seeing them made Guyon look normal. He wasn't all that bad at all, thought Adelaide, not when it came to his appearance. Taking a deep breath, the young woman reminded herself not to judge anyone on their appearances. Actually Adelaide made a game of picking out one beautiful thing in each goblin she saw. It was sometimes difficult, but it was a nice reason to be staring at Guyon's subjects as he led her to the table.
Nodding at the overly frilled goblin who would be her server, the young woman smiled at him. "Would you mind trying to find some rice to go with this, umm fowl?" She had no idea what the meat was, but it did look like chicken. Luckily Adelaide had no allergies, otherwise the spread of unknowns would have been an utter nightmare. The king's earlier grin had made Guyon rise in Adelaide's esteem. So tell me, will you show me your kingdom tomorrow? It would help with my decision." It certainly would! Adelaide truly did like what she had already seen. Rhys turned his head to regard this pretend consort of his with a smile. There were so many possibilities. Though he was certain that any chance of redeeming himself in her eyes were non existent. At least, he thought, we could try being friends. Futile maybe, but better then living with her in animosity. "Perhaps we could be friends of sort, in privacy when no eyes are watching. The importance of this truthful lie... Is unimaginable. " Inclining his head, the king hid his eyes. For a human, this one was not so bad at all. The spark in her eyes was something a king such as himself was not quite used to,... Then again his subjects never displayed their emotions to openly, this human did so in such a refreshing way. Bringing her hand to his lips, Rhys kissed it lightly and tucked it into the crook of his elbow. "Allow me to lead you to our chambers." Actually, it was two sets of rooms connected together by a single door. Rhys intended to give her the key as soon as she knew where her own rooms lay. Directing her to where they had first met, the king smiled then left her side. With a dramatic flourish the fairy opened an oaken door, elaborately carved, and went to present the young woman with a copper key. "Your chambers lie on the other side of that door. You may lock it or leave it open as you wish, I shall use no magic upon that door unless you are in danger." After a moment's thought Rhys then bent forward to place a chaste kiss upon her lips. "Sleep well my rose," murmured the fairy king. At least he was fond of her, even if it grew into nothing more. |
