My Magic Runneth Over

((Updated: Now has En's picture in collor and re-arranged to look better >.>))

The world

The Humans and Elves were drawn into war long ago and nearly destroyed each other with powerful magic. Finally a treaty has been reached as the horror of this overtook the people and practicing magic has been outlawed. However for some it is not so easy to simply stop as nature has blessed them with control over an element, marking their bodies to show it. If they do not use it, it spirals out of control and uses itself... it they do use it they break the law, either way earning themselves the death penalty. A cult was formed, with two purposes. Worshiping the earth and protecting these poor souls from the government.

Believing these people are evil and will restart the war the government seeks to destroy the cult. To this end the government has created Nulls and Hunter Hounds. Nulls being people who are immune to most direct magic spells such as mind control or invisibility or love spells though indirect magical and elemental damage still effects them. Hunter hounds being genetically mutated beasts that are similiar to wolves but much larger, have stronger, more fearsome jaws, and with armor like fur that protects slightly from bothhe physical and magical damage.

Profile(s)

Name: Enyalie ‘Enya’ Autmel

Age: 19

Race: Half Elf, Half Human

Eye color: Pale, almost silver blue

Hair color: Strawberry Golden(dark) Blond.

Markings/Scars/Tattoos: A birth mark of a pair of stylized wings on her upper back near her left shoulder. Also an old, long, jagged scar down her right forearm, as if something attacked her and she held up her arm to defend herself. There is also a scar across her throat that looks like it was cut.

Appearance: She has short, chin length hair with long, wavy bangs that bounce around her face and often obscure her pale blind eyes. She is tall, just under six feet. She would have ample feminine curves but her slender frame shows signs of a brief but recent starvation that fed off her curves so she is merely average.

She dresses in loose, masculine clothing and this along with her short hair often give people the mistaken impression she’s a rather dumpy man. The illusion is further helped by the fact that her voice is slightly gruffer from the past wound of her throat so it has a very neutral elvish sound. The only time they find they are incorrect is if they touch her clothing hard enough to feel her feminine curves or get a good look at her face which is rare. Her face tends to either be covered by her clothing, her hair, or even simple dirt.

Personality:
She’s a little mischievous but quiet, often only laughing to herself and speaking to her pet rats. She seems to mistrust anything not her little rodents and can be unpredictable in her movements. She’ll go from staring at you owlishly, invisible in a shadow to running away.

Song: Clowns

First Post

They’d found them… the government had descended on the group and it had been a bloodbath. She and a few of the others had escaped without being seen and were now on the run. Looking at her dusty frame you wouldn’t think she was on the run, however. The tall, lanky creature walked slowly and as silent as a cat with her hands in the pocket of her loose coat.

She didn’t look at any of the people around her, the wind brim of her hat hiding her face as it always did. Not that you were really ever able to see her face through her hair very well anyway. Even the environment seemed to hide her as the trees created long shadows over her from the setting sun. The forest on the city’s edge was quiet, still and a welcome change from the scene she had left behind a few days earlier. The ground was moist from rain that had happened earlier in the morning and she was thankful of her fathers old coat she always wore with it’s high collar and knee length.

She tugged it closer, a small rat poking it’s head out of one of the many hidden pockets of the coat as she did so. It turned it’s black eyes up to her, scampering up to sit between her neck and the turned up collar of her coat. It put it’s paws on her jaw to get her attention, her blindness making touch the best communicator. She smiled faintly, her slightly gruff voice tumbling from her full lips as she spoke to the small creature.

”Yes my little one, I’m alright.” She said quietly as if in answer to an unspoken question. The rodent let out a soft squeak that sounded strangely… doubtful as if it didn’t believe her. Her two rats had always been far more intelligent then any rat should be capable of, leading most of the cult to believe them a gift directly from the earth to guide the girl who was born blind. Not that most of them knew she was a girl but oh well, one of the benefits of cross dressing.

”I am, I am, you silly little thing…” She responded with a chuckle, reaching up to pat it’s head once as the other rat poked its head sleepily out of a pocket at the sound of her laughter. The sleepy rat made a soft sound of pleasure at the sound of her deep, muscular laugh as her joy always pleased the creature. The rat then, however, turned and curled back up into her pocket, falling back asleep within minutes.

Out of sight and out of mind. That was the game he liked to play. The cult had always been but a dream to him. He wanted to belong with them, but knew better than to cling to such a foolish hope. As his mind had guessed, a massacre had put an end to the cult.

Choosing not to look back, Fintan marched onward toward the forest. He knew that the looming shadows of the mighty pine would mask him. Once beside a leaning tower, he let loose a long kept breath of relief. He had, once again, escaped the sword of death.

As his head sunk back against the shedding tree, his eyes adjusted to the world around him. Listening ever so carefully, he picked up the faint sound of laughter. Bow creeping up, Fintan made it his mission to find the one that could laugh at such a time.

Being of a more morbid and hateful nature, Fintan had to check his own lips to make sure the noise he heard was not his own. Another sigh of relief came when he confirmed there was another madman in the woods.

Grabbing the letter opener, as it was the only weapon he wielded at this point in time, he brushed through the thicket onward to the sounds of the earth cracking beneath the feet of what looked like a poorly maintained man.

“State your loyalties.”

With the blade pressing against her neck, Fintan used his other free hand to twist her arms behind her back. Not knowing her true gender, Fintan automatically assumed he was in the presence of another man, and, from the looks of it, this man could be a powerful foe. After all, the average man would not hide his stature unless it was truly remarkable.

( (I wasn't sure how to start. I hope this is okay! *flairs arms* ))

The ’man’ in question twitched her elf like ears, hearing him approach. She made a soft hmm of annoyance, not moving at first. She did nothing as he put her arm behind her back, knowing her rats would do as she needed. The one in her coat instantly darted out, biting the hand that held such a sharp implement to its mistress’s throat. It would bite the thumb, deep enough to force him to release. It’s twin would leap out of its hidden pocket, biting the thumb of the hand holding her wrist.

The second his grip so much as loosened she whirled around to face him and her rats darted back into her coat. She stepped back, a dagger in her hand as her un seeing eyes stayed fixed at a random point. She had been born blind so her eyes had never developed the habit to move towards sound or any such thing. She was frowning, the shadow of her hat hiding it well.

”Myself…. And my rats. Everyone else I was loyal to… is dead. Do you always attack random blind people and demand such things?” She said in her hoarse, whispery voice. It still held the lyrical quality of the elves to give it a slight femininity but due to the masculinity her scars gave her it simply made it seem neither male or female. She held the dagger tighter, forcing her muscles to relax and be ready. The breeze stirred up slightly as she tried to ‘see’ him through the wind. It would only cause vague outlines against darkness but it could help…

When the rats appeared out of no where to assault his thumbs, he rolled his eyes. Is this guy serious, he thought. Dismissing the bizarre fighting tactics, Fintan just stood his ground and hardly moved a bit. Dropping his hands to his side, he smirked.

“No rat has ever defeated a snake in a game of cat and mouse. If you were wiser, you would know to keep those pests closer for Levi is never too far away.”

Had she been able to see his eyes, she would have noticed how the pupil was oblong and rather snake-like. If it weren’t for the fact that they were in the shade, his pupils would have been tiny slits. But alas, being in the darkness allowed his eyes to be almost human.

Wriggling his fingers, a snake reached up to kiss his fingertips. Pushing itself from the ground, the gold and black snake curled up around Fintan's neck. Often being a bit devious and dog-like, Levi plopped his flat head atop Fintan's and let his tongue poke the air a few times before closing his eyes.

Letting out a sigh, he could see that intimidation would not result with favorable outcomes.

"The name's Fintan Kaji Su. I hail from the more arid parts of the word were deserts and sand can cripple a man. The stillness of the air here is much like my homeland. Like you, I lost all that was important to me. I was bred a wealthy noble who was to wed a princess. But that life came to end when the hunters of magic came knocking. They took everything. My family. My friends. My home. My future wife."

Fintan patted Levi a few times before tucking the snake into his scarf. He knew the cooler air would eventually get to the creature so he sought to keep Levi warm with his own body heat.

“Perhaps you simply have not met an inventive enough rat” She responded in a musing sounding voice. The odd woman would sound as if she was genuinely thinking about the possibilities. It was as if scenarios were playing out in her head, more out of curiosity then anything. She did not like fighting or death, but such was the way of life for one of her kind…

As he ceased the attempt at intimidation she relaxed slightly, the air seeming to relax with her and become more still. She thought a moment, one of her rats making a soft sound as if speaking to her. As if understanding some message she nodded, muttering something that sounded like the word yes. She slowly put away the dagger, letting the blade disappear into her coat.

”My name is Enyali, but you can call me En if you prefer. My father did. I do not have quite so interesting a story to tell… I have always been as I appear now, Poor and dusty….and now alone…” She trailed off, laughing again. It was similar to before but this time there was no hiding a slightly bitter undercurrent. It was the sound of someone who desperately and determinedly focused on the good things, who would laugh rather then cry simply out of stubbornness to not shed a tear.

One of the rats made another sound and she looked down, nodding and appearing to have a conversation with the beast. It appeared her power over wind combined with her elf heritage gave her the ability to understand the rats… either that or she was just nuts. Even the cult members had never been able to quite decide as it wasn’t easy to prove.

”He suggests we travel together… better two then alone considering there is one thing we share in common… I am a wind elemental. You are an elemental too but not wind, I can feel it. Hmm…. Yet it is somehow connected to wind…” She trailed off, tilting her head to the side in a bird like manner. She seemed to puzzle it a moment as she waited for her answer.

That name. He was hung up on it. Was it male? Or female? The thing before him screamed male, but the name hinted female. Maybe the poor lad was named wrong at birth? That had to be it. There was no way this... well, yeah. It just couldn't be female. Could it?

Shaking the question from his head, Fintan went to ask, but was caught off guard by her suggestion.

"Travel. Together?"

Giving Enya a weird look, Fintan looked down at his snake. Levi was sound asleep and would be of no help to his baffled master.

Whatever was Fintan to do? He wasn't the kind of man to travel with another person, especially a man. Just want he always wanted. Man time. That would surely make him come off queer, something he feared to be seen as. Ever since he was little, his mother would dress him in bows and jewels. He was always treated like a princess and never a prince.

Cringing at the thought of being called gay, Fintan waved his hands before her.

"Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, no." His once sing-song laughter died to an immediate cold-hearted no. "I travel alone."

Pivoting on his foot, he stepped off toward the thicker part of the forest. Pausing, he left out the answer to her question. "A mighty flame followeth a tiny spark." With that, he stepped into the shadows and dipped out of sight.

Before long, Fintan looked over his shoulder. Something within tugged at his soul. Leaving a blind man to be saved by rats, what kind of noble knight would do such a thing. Rolling his eyes and grumbling, he turned himself around and wandered back toward the man.

"All right, listen. I'm only coming with you because I don't want to have a guilty conscious the rest of my life for letting a blind elf wander alone."

Being practical, if often in ways that never made sense to anyone else, she felt only confusion as he refused her offer. Briefly she made a ’tch of annoyance and disappointment, simply thinking ’he seemed smarter then that…’ Still she only shrugged and let him go, she waved to him slightly as he walked away.

As he spoke of the flame she’d already turned to walk on her way but she paused. She put a finger to her chin and nodded as if satisfied. She was aware a fire could not burn without air, though not the science behind it. That was an alchemist’s duty not hers. She just knew she could smother or enlarge a fire with her own magic.

”yes.. Fire… that must be it. May’s fire….” She started to mutter to herself, thinking of may. May had been a fire elementalist in the cult and a close friend. May was one of the people that knew En was female. She sighed, her voice coming to a halt as her last memory of May popped up. The memory of her being pulled apart by the hunters dogs…

It was only these thoughts that ensured she was in the exact same place as before when Fen returned, causing her to tilt her head to the side in that quizzical manner again. She had never been very good at social skills, being quiet, naïve, and a little offbeat as she was. It took her a moment ot speak and when she did it was not quite appropriate as often happened.

” You are strange… but I welcome your company. And elf? Hmm.. Oh, No. I’m a half elf. My mother cheated on Dad with an elf. Don’t know who… oh well, we should get going” She answered absently, speaking as you would about the weather rather then something most would try to keep secret. She shrugged, turning to begin walking forward. She was humming lightly, completely unaware of her social faux pas.
