Kara couldn't help but laugh "you say Frost likes me? Oh, that's a laugh. Please excuse me, but I find that hard to believe. He's never done anything that would prove he actually likes me. He's a jerk and he doesn't try to be anything else. I don't enjoy being a prisoner, so I refuse to be civil to him when he won't be civil to me. Worse than that, I'm in pixie support and he's coming with me this Saturday. It's her birthday and she'll be terrified the moment she sees him. I'm sorry... but in all honesty, I find very little in your brother to convince me that he's any more than a jerk" was her answer. Forcing herself to calm down, Kara faced Flare "I am their law slave. Bored or not, a slave I am. If he wants me to see the real him, then he needs to act it and not like a jerk. I can't think he's wonderful if he doesn't act it. It's hard enough, me being a light fairy. We have different core values. But I work with some wonderful dark fairies in pixie support, so I know they can be good. I just can't believe your brothers, Frost especially, are anything wonderful if they don't act it" she said.
Flare soon looked sad. She hated when people didn't like Frost. He was such a sweetheart. She sighed and looked at Kara for a moment. "What would he need to do? Frost has explained to me everything that has happened, but Void and Frost both told me not to come out here and make it worse. But, they can't really stop me, its my house." She smiled a little. "Well, Frost isn't that bad, really." She frowned and looked at her feet now. "I have a secret to tell you....he'd kill me if he knew I was telling you this...but I'm going to." She looked back at Kara, pain in her eyes. "I assume Void has told you what was wrong with me. Yes, I'm alot younger than they are and I cannot fly. Being like I am, I attracted too much attention out in public. People know who I am and what is wrong with me. A long time ago, I was attacked by one of the very people that was with Frost. You see...Frost used to go out to the Pixie towns and help with the hospital. He doesn't have any healing ablities, but he would run errands for the doctors and bring in patients that couldn't come in themselves." She was almost in tears. "The day it happened, Frost broke. He hunted the guy down and killed him. In the most brutal of ways, mind you. He killed his soul. His body is still very much alive, but he is kept locked up in the psych-ward." She shook his head. "He's no better than an animal now." She looked at her again, having gained composure. "Frost no longer volunteers for anything. He does his work, spends time with me and nothing else." She looked at her with a now hardened gaze. "He was a light fairy. One of water."
Kara clenched her teeth together. "Well... maybe what changed him to a dark fairy took away the goodness in his heart. I might have liked him before. His past doesn't dictate who he is... it's the present. Right now, he acts like a jerk. Just leave me alone" was her response, her pathetic plea at the end. Great... now Flare had to elevate Frost's wonderfulness. Ugh! At this point she was just vocalizing her hatred of him just to protect her heart from disappointment. Light and dark fairy standards are different... too different. Even if he fell in love with her--which by the sounds of it, he was approaching--it would never work. Eventually the chemistry of their first meeting would die and they'd argue non-stop and eventually someone would get hurt. "The sooner he lets me go, the sooner he can get over me" she added, her voice cracking.
Flare couldn't help but sigh. "I didn't tell you all that so you would run back in there and forgive him. Geez. I wanted you to understand our background." She rubbed her eyes slightly, then gently took Kara's hand. "I will leave you alone. I know you have inner conflictions. Frost doesn't know exactly what he has done. But, he told me that he was going to let you go. After Saturday anyway. He already told you that he was coming with you....he can't go back on that now." She sighed and looked at Kara with a small smile. "I do wish you would come visit me though. You don't have to come when they are here, but I do think I'd like to get to know you better." She let her go and curtsied. "I'll go tell Void that you are to be left alone for at least an hour. That will give me time to calm Frost done." She shook her head and looked a little annoyed. "He will ruin my house if he keeps this up. His mood is freezing everything." That last bit was to herself as she turned and walked back to the house.
Kara sighed and leaned her head against the gate. Almost immediately, the storm clouds gathered around her and poured down their contents upon her. Maybe... maybe she and Frost needed to have a talk. Tonight, maybe? Whenever it was, it had to happen where and when there was no chance of being interrupted by Void. They'd never be able to talk things through with him around. Maybe... maybe they could reach an understanding of sorts... or a compromise.
Time to be honest with herself and face the facts. It was killing her that she hurt Frost so terribly. It hurt her that he was so fixated on him. It hurt that she was starting to like him... a lot. Since she was being honest with herself, she had to admit that Frost would never be as wonderful as Aden... because he was better. He had all the kindness and compassion as anyone in pixie support, but he had the attitude of a dark fairy. He was... wonderful. But she was scared of anything happening between them and so she said hurtful words. Hurtful words that she half meant. Now, listening to Flare, she just wanted to take back every word that she'd said. By the time Kara had gone through the many things that she was afraid to admit, tears were streaming down her face and sobs were racking her body. She was only dimly aware of the time. Deciding that someone would be out soon to collect her, she wiped away her tears and tried to control herself. Unfortunately, a new wave of tears and sobs rang out, the storm above her soaking her anew with a vengeance. |
Void came out in a completely different mood then he had been in when he'd left her on the roof. He was walking towards her with a steady stride and he almost seemed happier. He gave her a small smile and looked at her. "Sheesh, you're soaked. Could you banish the cloud, please? If you come inside, it'll become hail with Frost around." He held out his hand for her to take, but wouldn't be offended if she didn't. He was just trying to be polite. "Flare has made dinner, if you'd like something to eat. She's made steaks and veggies. I usually skip the veggies."
Kara sniffed and wiped away her tears, doing her best to do as Void requested. The storm successfully gone, she put her hand in his, allowing herself to be pulled to her feet. "You shouldn't skip out on vegetables, they're good for you" she commented quietly, almost in a whisper. She quietly followed him inside, her eyes widening the moment she walked in. She let out a string of curses and backed out of the doorway until she was in the dying sunlight. She curled up into a ball and tried to warm herself through the shivers. "Geez! It's freezing in there!" she exclaimed, her teeth chattering violently. One thing's for sure, her melancholy feeling was gone... for now.
Void led her to the door gently and looked down at her. He wasn't too sure why she was breaking down, but he felt he needed to help. He watched her jump back and sighed. "Damnit Frost, you need to stop. Kara can't take the cold." Flare came out and took Kara's hand. "I'll keep you warm till he calms down, alright?" Flare sent a gentle warmth through Kara and smiled up at her. Void went inside and was talking to Frost in urgent, quick words.
Although still shivering, Kara immediately warmer once Flare had taken her hand "th-th-th-th-thank y-y-y-y-y-y-you" she stuttered through her shivers. The cool air was starting to get to her; add the freezing house temperature and her lips were blue. "Y'know... I didn't exactly make the storm rain on me" she commented after a sneeze ripped through her. She hadn't seen Frost yet... oh, there he was. "Frost... if I survive, I'm killing you when we get to your place" she teased, a small smile on her face. She even sent a quick wink in his direction to cement in his mind that she was only teasing him and that she wasn't seriously at all.
Flare didn't like how Frost's tantrum effected Kara so. She pourd hear into her, without hurting her. She then led her inside, keeping a constant flow of heat going into Kara. Frost looked over at Kara and then at his knees. "I'm sorry." He pulled back his aura which made the room a little warmer. Flare lit the fireplace, which roared to life. The room would be warm in no time. Void stood opposite Frost and threw him a look. "Frost wanted to ask you a question."
Kara sneezed again, grateful that she was warming up "what do you want to ask me?" she asked and sniffed. Alright, she had to admit... he was kind of cute when he was sorry. She'd never tell him to his face, of course. But honestly, what could he want to ask? He already apologized.
Frost squirmed slightly in his seat. Void chuckled softly. "Alright, I'll go." He looked at Kara. "Are you warm enough that Flare can leave as well?" Frost peaked up at her with a sort of look that a child would give its parents when they knew they'd done something wrong and had to ask forgiveness.
Kara bit her lip, trying desperately not to laugh. He looked so adorable! She turned to Void "I'll be fine, I'm sitting by the fire and drying and all that. I'll be fine. Now skit" she answered. Once they were alone, Kara stood up and sat in her seat next to Frost "So... what did you want to ask me?" she asked.
Frost watched the two leave, then looked a little calmer. He looked over at her, trying to figure out what to say to not make her angry. "What did I do?"
Alright... that question could be referring to a lot of things. Kara decided to be merciful and address the most likely reason. She sighed, any cheerful feeling leaving her. "I think we got off on the wrong foot. In truth... half of what I said to you was a lie because I wasn't willing to admit it. You should know something, though. I don't hate you because you're a dark fairy. I know dark fairies can be good; I may not agree with them all the time, but I get along with them. I hated you because you made it very difficult for me to like you. You over react and make me your law slave, you trick me into it by ordering me to bring you a live pixie for its heart" Kara shuddered at the memory "and you really haven't done anything that proves you're all that wonderful. I'm sorry I said those things, though. I told you, half of it was a lie because I wouldn't admit some things; no I won't tell you what those things are." Well... maybe they'll have that talk now... "My turn... why... why are you trying so hard to get me to like you? Why did you get so upset when I said those things? You're a dark fairy that overreacted and made me your law slave. Why are you making such a big deal out of this. I don't understand why you care about it so much" she asked.
Frost listened to everything, then nodded slightly to everything she said. "I've never wanted you to think I was wonderful. I didn't want to lie like that." He couldn't help but smile a little at that. Then his smile slipped a little at her last question. He then looked at his lap again, his aura was starting to leak out again, but the fire kept the room warm in Kara's area. "I just...at first, I wanted to have fun. When I first met you. Void agreed to it because he's had a grudge against light fairies for awhile." He looked at her now, his eyes sullen. "After the pixie heart thing...I couldn't stand to have you think I was that heartless. It ate at me. I don't know why, but I felt....like I had to make you see me." He sighed and put his face in his hands. "But everything I did made you hate me more. I couldn't understand it. On the roof....I lost it." He looked up at her over his hands. "I didn't mean what I said either....I was just angry and hurt."
Kara sighed softly before she knelt in front of Frost. She reached up and pulled his hands away from his face. Giving him a small encouraging smile, she looked into his eyes. "I think we both lost it. I think you and I understand a lot more about each other now, so why don't we put the past behind us and ah...ah...ah... ACHOO!!!" she suggested, sniffing at the end. She brushed her soaked hair from her face. However, when she discovered that it had froze, she let out a scream and mock glared at Frost "You! You did this! Now I have a cold and my hair is frozen! How could you!?" she sobbed, acting overly dramatic on purpose. Her hysterics over in an instant, she plopped herself down on Frost's lap and smiled brightly at him "come on, I know you can smile. I did everything I could to make myself look comical. Smile for me, won't you?" she pleaded, adding a pout at the end for good measure.
Frost stiffened slightly when she came closer. An uncomfortable look appeared on his face when she knelt and took his hands. He stared at her, then looked concerned when she sneezed. "Are you-" Then he stiffened again when she freaked out. He drew in his aura and locked it tight. He jumped slightly when she sat on his lap, but he put an arm around her to keep her from falling. He looked up at her. The pout did pull at his lips a little. "Why do you wish for me to smile?"
Kara let out a giggle, mainly because she was still feeling slightly hyper after her outburst. "Because I want to know that things are alright between us. I'm willing to start over and forgive what you may or may not have done. Please?" she asked. Dramatic mode again. She played like she was feeling faint, putting a hand to her forehead "Oh! How destitute will I be to know that I have ruined your life! I mean, that's why they have this law! So that a fairy that has hurt another fairy can make right what has been wronged! I shall be terribly upset if you do not give me the opportunity! Oh! Catch me, I feel faint!" she breathed and collapsed onto him, laying still for a few seconds before she cracked open an eye. Well, of course he wouldn't smile at that!
Kara bounced up and got her face all up close and personal, a huge grin on her face "so will ya smile for me? willyawillyawillya huhhhuhhuh?!!?" she bounced. The energy only lasted for so long before she collapsed again from exhaustion "Fairies, that's exhausting! What's it going to take for you to smile for me? That's all I want!" |
Frost let her go through all her antics without so much as a twitch. When she fell on him at last, he moved an arm around her. He was afraid she'd fall off his lap if she kept it up. "Now, I have to wonder....will you stop giving me all this attention if I give you what you want?" There was humor in his eyes, but he wouldn't dare smile.
Kara pouted but nodded "I promised to do what you asked without complaint. If you want me to stop giving you attention, then I'll stop" she promised and then hopped back over to her chair upon realizing just how close she was to him. For that matter, she scooted back to her original chair by the fire. She let out a delicate sneeze and curled up into a ball, she'd just claim she was cold. She shifted her eyes until they landed on Frost. "I'm sorry for making you uncomfortable... I guess I got a little carried away" she apologized shyly.
Frost had let her go, reluctantly. He actually saw how she acted and hated himself for letting her go. He slowly rose to his full height. "I didn't say I wanted you to stop giving me attention. But, I don't want you to talk to me or give me any attention if you don't want to." He looked sollem. He walked over and sat beside her offering his hand.
Kara barely managed to keep herself from letting out a squeak when Frost came over. Oh! Why did he have to be so wonderful!? How was she supposed to respond to that!? He was wonderful, he was perfect, he was a dark fairy!!!! 'cut it out, Kara! You're setting yourself up for disappointment! Remember Aden? Well Frost will be ten times worse!!!' she chided herself. Oh... what was she going to do!? Where's Flare or Void when you need them for a distraction!? "Oh... it's alright, I... I just got... a little carried away, that's it. By the way... you still haven't smiled for me. Lucky for you you've worn me out, so I won't be having any outbursts any time soon, but I'd like it if you give me a smile. I know you can do it" she pointed out. She eyed his hand and shyly placed it in his, anticipating a multitude of things that he might do now that he had a hold of her hand.
Frost let her stutter, then his lips turned into a kind smile. "Thank you. You have brought me out of my slump." He held her hand into both of his and just looked at her. She seemed to be the only thing he could see. Then slowly he blinked and looked at her differently. "I am sorry...once again."
Oh!!!!!!!!!! He was going to be the end of her! She didn't want to back away for fear of hurting his feelings, but she didn't know how much more she could take. WHERE WAS FLARE AND VOID!?!?!? Watch, the moment she breaks and they start doing something remotely romantic, they'll be interrupted. Kara looked down at her feet shyly "oh... it's alright, don't worry about it. Thank you for smiling for me" was her timid response. Come on... let go, let go, let go... there was only so much she could take before she snapped! Is it just her, or was it getting warm? Kara swirled the air around her until she was completely dry (her hair was an absolute mess, of course) and she shyly pulled away, almost reluctantly "I... um... that is... um... well..." she paused to sneeze again "um... I, uh... that is... I mean... er... um... hi." Oh wow... that was lame. All that time and all she could think of was 'hi'!!??! She was so pathetic. She looked up through her mussed up hair in front of her eyes so she could see what his reaction to her horrible lameness was. Oh no... her heart was still pounding after that look he gave her earlier. He could probably hear it. Oh!!!! Why did he have to be so wonderful!?
