Hidden Guardians

- The Setting -

In a world where humans think they're the only race on earth, the elves have been chosen as guardians. Though there aren't many elves left, they have dedicated their lives to protecting their human counterparts. Unseen and unheard, they keep to their animal forms whenever near the humans.
Elves live for many years more than humans, but rarely take on more than one (or at the most, two) people to protect.

Earth has been peaceful for a while, though war is inevitable. The elves will be more than mere guardians someday.

- The Characters -
Quote:

Rogue “Growch”

Age: Roughly 21
Race: Dare I say “elf?”
Rank or job: Guardian
Hometown: A forest-born city far to the East; “Gloh’ri”
Bio: Growing up in a city of elves, Rogue chose his name at a young age, and swiftly came to fit into it. Leaving the forest, he moved on in life – only to become a guardian. While elves may not exist in the human realm, they merely take on the form of something they would see as “normal.” Rogue, for instance, chose a dog. Now he has someone he's sworn to protect.
Personality: Fun-loving, quick to smile, and always hungry, “Growch” is a loyal friend and would die for his "special someone" if he had to. He's very sarcastic and one for criticism.
Likes: Food, sleep, lazy summer days . . . swimming. Food?
Dislikes: Loud noises, danger near his friend, and evil.
Description: “Growch” has a Pup form that seems to contrast mightily with his “true” form. He also has dusty blond hair and golden-brown eyes. Did I mention he doesn’t enjoy wearing much of a shirt?

The Girl He Protects: Pepper
Esmme

- The Story -

"Tomorrow is going to be the best day of my life, Growch!" Pepper tossed a fringe of dark hair from her face with a laugh. "I finally get to become a woman of the village! I will be accepted for marriage, and I can actually work for money instead of doing chores for free!" The young woman lifted the puppy from his place on the bed and held him above her head.
The pup yawned and squirmed unhappily, wishing he were back on the bed. He had just gotten the blankets warm enough to create a soothing cocoon of heat that chased off the damp morning air. Growch whined once and wiggled his feet around until Pepper finally bumped noses with him and set him on the floor.

"Momma says that I can finally take up the position of village school teacher."

Growch's golden-brown eyes were groggily lingering on the girl as she moved about the room to finish getting ready. That really just meant she found a clean shirt and raked a comb through her dark hair, and was finished after splashing water in her face. The village didn't have the luxuries of the city - they were an outlying area with little luxury at all.
The pup yawned again, looking toward the door. It was closed, which meant he couldn't get outside. And that meant he had to hold in whatever he'd drank the night before.

With a small whine, Growch trotted over to the door and gave his best pleading look to Pepper. The girl was still going on about her new position. A rather high-pitched "yap" caught her attention, and she cracked the door just enough for the dog to scramble out into the dirt. "Oh, go on, you silly dog!"

Growch raced out with his little ears flying and tongue lolling out to the side. He loved his mornings. They were the only time (save evenings) when he was alone. As a guardian, he was at Pepper's side nearly every moment of his days. Despite his puppy look, Growch was a shape-shifter: he was an elf who could change into an animal. He'd chosen a mutt-like puppy. It wasn't the most threatening creature of the animal kingdom, but it kept him very inconspicuous. Besides, a puppy got far more attention than a turtle or eagle.

After finishing his morning business, Growch raced about like a little streak of brown lightning. He missed being able to stretch his legs whenever he wanted. Unfortunately, he needed to stay as a pup. If the humans found out that they weren't alone, all hell would break loose for the elves. They would be hunted, and they would fall. It was safer to just stay a dog.
Racing through the jungle-like forestry that surrounded the village, Growch made his way toward the sea shore. He loved running after the sea gulls there (yes, it was a childish thing to like, but he couldn't help it) and barking at the strange creatures that dug into the sand.

As he scampered out onto the packed sand, the pup panted happily. The cool morning air was no longer a problem: it was invigorating. He would spend the next few minutes (nearly an hour) chasing after and exploring the stretch of beach that he'd come to love.

((:XD LOL, he's been a pup for far too long! He's being a puppy, despite really being an elf!))

Gwen
Age: 25 ~ but acts older
Race: Elf
Rank or job: Guardian
Hometown: Born on the shore of Hab'ith
Bio: Growing up in small town of elves she likes to have control over every situation and is a perfectionist. During an important ceremony she made a fatal mistake and her opportunity was wasted. However, due to her family's standing she was able to get a job as a guardian in the Human world and chose to become an animal she is most like.
Likes: Sleep, lazy, sunshine, perfection, did i mention she likes to sleep?
Dislikes: Water, Chaos, fighting
Description: "Fia" in her cat form seems to resemble her inner self and likes to let loose and have fun and do whatever she wants without having to worry about rules. Thinking that the Humans will take care of her most of time and she only has to worry about them in time of Need

Person to protect: Mitchell
Fia gets kicked off the bed once again at 3am. Mitchell had been tossing and turning in his sleep all night. Unknown to him his tabby had been falling on the floor when he moves too much. She decided that she better find another place to sleep to keep from waking up again in the middle of the night.

On the floor there were lots of options to sleep on since Mitchel never cleans his room. She looked for the cleanest pair of clothes to sleep ontop.

Next thing she knew she was being picked up by this boy and set on top of the bed. She looks around for a second to realize what is going on while kneading the bed to make a comfortable spot again. Mitchell had to get ready for school and she had fallen asleep on his school clothes. "Fia get off my bed I need to make my bed before school." She looks up and wonder what is going on and why the blankets below her are moving. "Come on you lazy cat!" Fia realized that Mitchell was in hurry this morning and moved off the bed and decided that this might be a good time to do her morning routine. "Finally!" Mitchell exclaimed and quickly made his bed.

Fia sat at the door waiting for Mitchell to leave and quickly ran outside the door as he opened it. "Watch where you are going! You almost tripped me!" Fia ignores his complaints and goes on her business. She goes under the table and gets her breakfast. She notices mitchell coming down the hallway and stays under the table calmly as he passes. That kid never learns that he needs to eat breakfast since it is the most important meal of the day. She goes over to the door and watches as Mitchell rushes to school because he is late. It's his first day after all I guess that is why he is a bit nervous.

The cat then rushes outside of the house to beach and lays out in the sun. It's such a nice day for a nap and falls asleep again.

(lazy cats >.<' ~ I hope this is ok)

Esmme 03-29-2012 05:47 AM

((Hahah! She's a kitty!! Awww, so cute!!! I love it.))

Returning from the beach was the hardest part of every morning. Not only did he have to leave behind the now-warm sand and sunny shores, but Growch had to head home and sit around until Pepper came home. The guardian trotted toward the house, stopping only when he reached the middle of the village. Shaking the damp from his fluffy fur, the pup yelped in surprise. He scrambled to the side a few steps to avoid being stepped on by a human as he rushed by. Judging by the age and look of the guy, he was headed for school.

Mitchell. Growch watched the youth head toward the school for a few moments before shaking his little ears out again. Time for breakfast! There were perks to being a human's companion. He had a place to sleep, someone who wanted to play with him, and food for every meal. The only annoying thing was being unable to eat normal foods. Sometimes Growch wanted to just dig his teeth into a doughnut, or even sit at a table just to use a fork.
As he headed home, a scent caught his attention. As the mutt moved past a house, Mitchell's house, to be exact, a strange smell made his golden eyes widen. For a moment, he thought he'd smelled a shape shifter. Pausing, Growch sniffed a few times. After a few moments he was sniffing all about the porch and door. It definitely smelled like a shifter.

Curious, and a bit confused (elves were rarely assigned to humans in the same city or area), Growch tilted his head and headed home. It wasn't until after Pepper had left and headed toward the school when the pup got restless. He wanted to know who was guarding Mitchell, if his nose was telling him the right thing.
Growch wolfed down the last of his food and headed back to the boy's house. Following the paw prints through the dirt, he reached the beach. When he heard the soft waves, the male narrowed his eyes. This is my beach. Possessive of the beach, which was true to his puppy nature, the male immediately spotted the cat lounging about in the sunlight.

He desperately wanted to shift forms and pick up the cat, throwing her into the water in order to scare her off. Sadly, he wasn't that immature . . . even though his time spent in puppy form had altered his mind. Growch frowned in a pup-like manner, slowly trotting up to stare at the cat. Cocking his head to the side, the canine stared at the feline for many moments.
Prodding her with his nose, the dog sniffed. Yup. This is the one.

dessertdesiert 03-29-2012 01:31 PM

Fia was in basking in the sunlight and enjoy her morning when she noticed a presence near her, it was another animal. She quickly wondered if it was a threat or not, and decided against attacking and just laid there enjoying the sunlight. She watched as the figure approached her and as it got closer she noticed it was a dog, and not any dog a shape-shifter much like herself. She could since the presence of a shape shifter just by looking at them, but from far away she could not tell if it was an older or younger guardian and did know its reasoning for being there.

Uh-oh what did this mean, would have she have to deal with another guardian telling her what to do and that she was not doing her job right. Mitchell was a good boy that she is protecting. Yes he happens to be late to school a few times... almost every day but she knew that he was trying the best after the accident.

In reality Mitchell had just moved there from a small town in the woods. She was lucky that he had survive the attack from an unknown group which killed Mitchell's parents. He however had been playing jungle man and was up in the trees far off and did not get attacked. She hadn't been fast enough to protect his parents and had ultimately failed her mission. This had been the second disappointment she had made in her life and she was hoping that staying by Mitchell's side she could atone for the disappointment in her life.

She continued to rest and fell asleep as the pup was coming closer next thing she knew there was a nose was a cold wet noise on her back. Jumping due to surprise of the wet nose. She looked around to see it what it was and then after realizing the pup was right next to her she got up. Ah this guardian seems to be younger than me, he probably will not lecture me on how I should do my job. Maybe he will want me to get out of town since there is generally there is only one Guardian in a town. Gets up and looks at him clearly in the eyes. Or maybe he is friendly and we can have an alliance together. There must be a reason that the leaders have us near each other.

She looked up into the Dog's eyes and saw that he seemed friendly enough. Getting up onto all four she inspected this new dog to see if he was aligned with go or evil. He seemed to be a younger shape-shifter, since he approached her without knowing if I was an animal or not. You should never approach another animal so quickly without acknowledging if it they a shape shifter or another animal. Maybe he knew that I was a shape-shifter after all dogs have a great sense of smell. After inspecting him, she comes around to his front and gives him a sideways look wondering what he wants with her.

She was quick to judge after that incident with Mitchell’s parents and it is hard for her to become friendly with other guardians. She just looked at the dog to make his first approach to her unknowing what would happen.

Esmme 03-29-2012 04:15 PM

When the cat stood, slowly beginning to circle him, the pup sat down. Waiting with a wolfish grin on his little face, he watched her move around him with a kind of amusement. Growch knew for certain she was a shifter now: a real cat would have batted him with a mass of claws on the nose.
The mutt met the cat's gaze when she came around in front of him, and his ears perked slightly. It was difficult to talk with anything but body language when an elf was in their animal form. Honestly, it wasn't the clearest form of communication. Growch stood, shaking the sand from his fur before stepping back a bit. After a quick scan, the male closed his golden-brown eyes and seemed to concentrate.

Moments later, a tall male stood in the canine's place. Rogue swiftly adjusted his hair to cover his pointed ears. It would be most unfortunate if someone happened to walk by and see an elf. This was quite the risk, truly. An elf was supposed to stay in animal form until they were guaranteed privacy. The public beach wasn't exactly the safest place, but Rogue hadn't seen any humans. At this time of day everyone was rushing off to work and school anyway.

"I haven't met another of our kind in years," the blond said with a slight smile. Sitting cross-legged, he impulsively reached out to touch the cat's head. "You must have come to the village with Mitchell. He's new here." Or, the newest person in the town, more like.

"I'm Rogue," the male said, giving a wolfish smile that would have matched his animal form. At that point he stroked the cat's flank. He just didn't seem to have the right amount of self-control to stop himself.

dessertdesiert 03-30-2012 01:35 AM

Watching the dog shake the sand out of his fur and look around. She wondered if he would was going to transform, but before she could finish her thought she saw a tall male in front of her.

As he continued to go from her head to her side she enjoyed the petting forgetting her true self and enjoying her cat life. It felt different from when Mitchell pets her. She then remembered he was asking her questions and that it would probably be rude to ignore him. She had to turn into her true form. She walked away from

Within moments a pale, petite elf with dark black hair and emerald eyes appeared. "Yes I came to the village with Mitchell. How do you know him?" In polite yet impersonal tone. She still doesn't trust him even though he showed his true self.

She looked at his face and his smile. "I am Gwen, nice to meet you." with a sense of Apathy. "Are you a guardian? I have only met a few others while living with humans" She lied she had met many and never was very fond of others and liked living alone with nobody around especially other shape-shifters.

Esmme 03-30-2012 04:29 AM

Rogue was glad that the cat moved away from him, but disappointment flickered across his face. It was difficult for him to control his emotions now that he'd lived so long without having to. He'd been with Pepper for a good two years, and had only shifted to his elven form roughly three times. This was one of those times.

When an elven woman revealed herself, Rogue's golden-brown eyes widened. She was a guardian, just like he was. He'd known, but it still felt strange to view it. "I don't know him," Rogue said with a slight smirk. "Just his name, and how long ago he moved to the village." Though he was a puppy, he'd been able to hear quite the bit of gossip. Mitchell was definitely part of the chat going around. "He's quite the topic amongst the ladies." Of course, Rogue would know that, too. He was always with Pepper. . . .

The elf noticed Gwen's impersonal tone, but it didn't seem to phase him. Instead, the blond tilted his head and regarded the woman for a few moments. "Nice to meet you, too." Then he met her green eyes and leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. "Yes, I am a guardian. Pepper has always needed one." He chuckled as though hearing an inside joke. "I haven't met any others. You're the first elf I've seen since I left home." That was when Pepper had been an infant nearly twenty years prior. It was a long time for not seeing his own kind.

Taking a handful of sand, Rogue let the warm material slide through his fingers. "Is Mitchell your first assignment?" He glanced up to Gwen once again, smiling when he saw her. It felt so nice to just talk with someone.

dessertdesiert 03-30-2012 05:43 AM

Taking notice to the look in his eyes she felt comfortable in front of him and sat cross-legged looking at him straight in the face. She kept look-out towards the town making sure that nobody was coming, she did not want to be noticed and cause chaos in the town. "It is good you have not met many others. It usually is a bad sign when many pf our race are gathered." Gwen remembered all the other times she had met other guardians in the past few years, usually it was a sign that there is death on the horizon and there might be war/chaos soon. Sometimes it also indicated that there was dark force of something unnatural in the surroundings.

"Yes, Mitchell is my first assignment." She sighed to herself knowing that he might also be her last assignment if she cannot protect him. He deserves a much better guardian then her there seems that there might be something after him, or she could just be bad luck. "Is it that obvious?" In her cat form with Mitchell she had forgotten how to actually talk to people her own age, her own race. She quickly glances around making sure nobody is around. "Are you sure that this a safe place to be? She looks into his eyes hoping that he will not lie.

She draws shapes into the sand. First a star, then a heart, and a circle. Then while listening to Rogue she notices the high tide. "Can we move to somewhere else? It seems the tide is rising and I do not want to get wet." She amuses herself thinking that she is becoming more like a cat everyday.

She found herself a nice grassy spot just off the shoreline where there was long grassing growing where she would not be easily be seen but keep a look out for humans. " I just have this feeling that someone is going to come here and discover us and that never ends well. " She looked into his eyes once again took her hair and made sure that it was covering up her ears. She looks around once more.

Esmme 03-30-2012 06:00 AM

It was true: wherever there were many elves gathered a fight was soon to start. Rogue nodded in agreement before turning his attention to their surroundings. The way Gwen was looking around made him realize that he wasn't as cautious as he could have been. He never really was, honestly.
Rogue smiled when he heard that Mitchell was Gwen's first. "Obvious?" The elf blinked in surprise. "Oh, I can hardly tell a normal animal from a shifter. You are very formal, and I thought that he might be your second." A light blush spread over his face. It was a huge thing to assume that another guardian was "higher" than another, but not necessarily an offense. For some reason it just made him feel all the younger.

The question for their safety made the moment a bit tense. They met gazes, and Rogue was the first one to blink. Clearing his throat, Rogue glanced up at the sky. "No," he said slowly, "this place isn't safe for us." Once again, he'd acted impulsively. What if some humans had been nearby and he'd shifted without realizing it? Just the thought made Rogue reach up and mess with his blond hair, fixing it over his pointed ears once more.

There was a bit of silence again before Gwen suggested moving. "Moving is a good idea," he said. On his feet instantly, the youth scented the air. He was so used to being a pup that his movements were similar to those of a small canine. The two of them found a small grassy area near the shore with enough cover to keep them from being spotted immediately.
Rogue frowned a bit. "Right. It never ends well." He could only recall stories of elves being found out by the humans. Usually it ended in death and panic, as well as a wide-spread fear and paranoia that brought the elves closer and closer to extinction.
Watching as Gwen fixed her dark hair, Rogue reached down to fix a few more locks for her. "Well, it's good to finally see someone else. I was beginning to wonder if I was all alone in the world." His smile was crooked as he met the girl's eyes. The way she looked up at him and then glanced about made Rogue smile. She was wary and watchful - and a cat. She was a good guardian, and a bit of an opposite to Rogue himself. I'll bet she thinks before acting, too. Unlike . . . well, me.

The elf looked up at the sky again, noting how the colors were more vivid in his true form. Everything felt and looked much more appealing as an elf. Rogue moistened his lips before looking back to Gwen. "I'll bet your older than me. Everyone always is." He was almost too young to have someone to protect, but Rogue had been anxious to start his assignments. He'd been sent out early - though it was still too soon to tell if it was a mistake to do so.

dessertdesiert 03-30-2012 01:16 PM

Gwen watched as he his hand was close to her face touching her hair, she was not use to people touching her. Shocked she lost her focus and looked at him as Rogue asked her a question. There was a slight bit of apprehension in her voice as a she responded to him "I might be older than you, I do not know your age. Does it really matter we both have the same purpose here." She did not want to admit her age since she felt like she should have become a guardian earlier but this was not her first assignment. "You should never ask a women about her age, you better learn this now otherwise you have some awkward position, you always assume they are younger even if they appear older." She said with a slight smirked, but also winked at him realizing she put him in an awkward position. He must be younger , he does not use any formalities, or maybe he just thinks we are the same age. The only way she could tell others ages is by how they talk. "It really does not matter about age out here, it matters how much experience you have, and I am only going on my second year with Mitchell."

Within seconds her face had a hue of pink across it. She had made it sound like she was dating Mitchell when she was only guarding him. She glanced around again to make sure nobody was coming, she felt lost in time with Rogue, how nice it was to be with another elf even though it was not very long. That is one thing that she missed being with others of her kind was just talking to them. Nobody had shown her kindness in ages especially when she has her duties as a guardian.

Responsibility, honor, protection are all traits that guardians have nowhere do they mention kindness and she was lucky to find someone as kind as Rogue. In the far off distance she heard bells of the town. She then looked towards the beach and over into the horizon behind Rogue. "It seems that our time alone might have to come to an end." She hate to admit it but during lunch time Mitchell liked to go outside school and play at the beach. This is the reason why she stayed near the beach to be close to him in case something where to happen. Never know when danger is around, especially not that she met Rogue. "Do you want to meet again, later today, tomorrow? Or when you have the time, I do not want to take away from your duties." She then realize that he might spend many hours watching over Piper, no. Pepper! Some humans are more prone to risk the others, remember how Mitchell was at the beginning and is still is. Silly boy, only she would know him like that others just know of his past, but not what type of person he is.

Looking Past Rogue she noticed that there where people coming, but they were so far away that they most likely could not see them. They however were coming straight towards the beach, and in a red shirt she could pick out her human. "We will talk more later, it was nice to meet you." Within moments she was in her cat form and brushed up against Rogue's leg since it seemed like he was hesitating. In her cat form she laid down near Rogue and on the path that she knew her human would come on putting on playing the cat role again.

dessertdesiert 04-13-2012 12:13 AM

((It's ok, I like the cat in your signature reminds me of my baby))

Esmme 04-13-2012 03:14 AM

((Awwww, you have a kitty? :3))

"You should never ask a woman abut her age."

Rogue ducked his head sheepishly, a sly smile on his smooth face. "I apologize. I didn't mean to be so . . . intrusive." The blond shook a fringe of hair from his eyes before his smile grew. It looked as though he was trying not to laugh. Gwen's wink had made him blush a bit, realizing that he had been downright rude with his forward attitude. He couldn't help it, though. "You're right. Experience is the only thing that counts out here."

Every time Gwen glanced around for company, the young elf blinked in remembrance. He had a hard time thinking about being seen. He was too interested in meeting another elf to even think about the humans. As the bells tolled off in the near distance, Rogue cocked his head to the side.
"Ah, time always comes to an end." Wrinkling his nose in obvious disappointment, the male nodded. "Later would be nice. I haven't seen another elf in years." His smile grew again, and his golden-brown eyes scanned over Gwen appreciatively. "I have time after Pepper gets home from work. She'll write things down and work on her book for a few hours after dinner." He frowned a bit. "Do you have time to meet after dinner?" If not, they could always meet the next morning . . . but Rogue thought that was an awfully long wait. He was FAR too eager to learn more about Gwen to wait an entire day and night.

When Gwen mentioned people, the youth stood slowly. Stretching his arms over his head, he shook hair from his face with a dog-like motion. "It was nice to meet you, too." When the now-cat elf brushed against his leg, Rogue knelt to stroke her fur once. "Thank you for your kinship, Gwen."
Making sure the humans still couldn't see him clearly, Rogue shifted forms. The pup that stood in his place shook sand from his fur with a small growl. Instead of heading back to town, he sat beside Gwen as she watched her human. Panting a bit, the pup blinked and seemed to grin wolfishly. Maybe he would watch how these two interacted for a while. He'd never watched another guardian at work (or at play, for that matter).

dessertdesiert 04-20-2012 03:54 AM

Gwen bowed down in her cat state as a response to Rogue. He seemed like he is a nice boy and he would be a good companion for the future. She then watched as Mitchell came closer to her and she rubbed along along his leg for a ride back to the house. She hated the long walk to the house especially when Mitchell runs home for his lunch. He is always in such a hurry to get home and eat something. She then noticed that Rogue was following behind her, sadly she was not the only one that had noticed.

"Hey Fiona, I have missed you school is so boring and I am glad that we are allowed out for lunch." He then scooped her up from the ground and started petting her down her back. He then looked over on the ground near him and noticed a dog. "Have you made a new friend?" He set Fiona down on the ground and pet the dog. "I love dogs but when I with my parents they were allergic to dogs so I could never have one. " He pet this dog and look at his collar for a name tag but couldn't find one. "You can follow along with us if you want to since you have made friends with Fiona she is such a sweetheart."

Fiona figured that Mitchell would like Rogue. When she was set down she rubbed against Rogue since he was going to follow along anyways. Maybe he didn't know what it looked liked when another Elf was protecting a human, heck she didn't know what it looked like either since she did not think of herself as a good guardian but she would do the best for Mitchell even if it meant her life.

Mitchell then took her home and Rogue followed like a good puppy. She wonder if his owner would come home for lunch or if he spent most of his time alone in his dog form. Mitchell went off to the kitchen and left Gwen and Rogue alone in the living room. She circled him and and the jumped onto the couch sending a him an invitation to cuddle with her in the meantime unless he wanted to act like his puppy self and follow Mitchell. She knew that he seemed like quite the puppy when they first met so that he might act like a puppy now in front of a human to keep his cover, but that is why she could be a cat. Cat's are unpredictable and they tend to do their own thing. She realized that it might be a good time to take a nap. She soon fell asleep on the couch.

Esmme 04-20-2012 04:50 AM

Rogue happily trotted along beside Mitchell and Gwen as they headed back to town. It wasn't a long walk, and by the time they reached the right house the little pup was panting with excitement. He sent a glance toward the schoolhouse before scampering up onto the porch and into the home.
The pup cocked his head and leaped up onto the couch beside Gwen . . . and then bounced back off and followed Mitchell instead. Who knew if it was truly a puppyish thing to do, or if he really couldn't make up his mind. His golden-brown eyes were wide as he watched the human prepare his own meal. After watching for a few seconds, Rogue's nose was to the ground. He sniffed just about every surface he could reach before making his way back out to the living area.

When he hopped back up next to Gwen, he huffed out a breath and laid down. Seeing his cat friend asleep, the canine snuffled her fur with a snort, burying his nose in her soft coat. That was definitely not an elf thing. That was purely puppy.
Looking embarrassed, Rogue pulled his nose away from the fur and rested his muzzle over his paws. Aw, Rogue. Don't be silly!

dessertdesiert 04-21-2012 03:38 AM

Gwen looked over at rogue as he sniffed her fur, it had woken her up and she batted at him gently give him a bit of slight sign of disapproval. She did not like be woken up, it was her only time that she could relax when she knew that Mitchell was safe at home during daylight nothing would not be attack so she could relax, it was night time that she had to be alert. She just watched him and gently fell back to sleep. He really seemed to enjoy being an animal why did he like talking to her in their elf forms. Very strange boy.

Mitchell came into the room and noticed that his lazy cat had fallen asleep and cute little puppy had laid next to her. She must be an old cat to be that calm and friendly around a pup. I wonder if he is hungry. He pulls a bit of his sandwich and gives it to the pup. All dogs like table scraps he thought. "Here have a bit of my sandwich if you promise not to attack Fiona." He always talked to animals since he did not have many friends especially small harmless animals like his Fiona and this dog seemed friendly enough. He looked up at the clock on the wall and notice that lunch break was almost over. "I have to go now, now you too behave or I can't keep you." He directed at the strange dog that he somehow felt comfortable leaving at his house.

When Mitchell left the house he left Gwen and Rogue alone together. She immediate looked up when he left and jumped up to the window to watch to make sure he went to straight to school and that nothing was following him or that he didn't go somewhere else.

Rogue inhaled the bit of sandwich offered to him like it was his last meal. When Mitchell finally stood, looking to the clock, the pup merely wiggled his tail slightly. It was after the human had left when the canine yawned and rolled over onto his back. Rolling about for a few moments, he stood and shook his fur back into place. Golden-brown eyes rested on Gwen as she diligently watched her boy walk back to school.
With a brief flash of movement, Rogue returned to his elf form. He did it at home occasionally when he knew there was no one around. "You keep a close eye on him," he said, smiling a bit. His expression darkened slightly. "That must mean I don't watch Pepper enough." A thought struck him. "How old is Mitchell?" It could be that Pepper was older than the boy. Maybe that was his excuse for not watching her as often. . . .

The blond male stepped up to the window, stretching his arms over his head with another yawn. Before Gwen could move, he stroked her head and looked outside. With a different color spectrum, everything always looked much better through elven eyes. Elves had a keener sense of sight - and a far better grasp on color. Vivid hues were everywhere. Dogs just . . . didn't have that.

She knew that he would not stay in his puppy form once Mitchell left. However she wanted to make sure that he was out of eyesight before she turned into her elf form, she jumped down from the window and turned then sat on the couch. Oh how she did love Rogue's golden hair and his eyes. She brushed her jet-black hair to the side and gave him a fierce look. "Why did you sniff me? Was it really necessary?" She then sighed not knowing what Rogue would think if he knew the truth about her and that she was a terrible guardian.

"Mitchell has had some trouble in the past and lost his parents. I was his guardian at the time... It was a terrible mistake on my part but I was new to this guardian position and I felt terrible responsible so I keep a close eye on him." Her eyes then looked up at him to wait for him to show an expression on his face. Her eyes shimmered emerald with hope that he would somehow understand and give her, since nobody had before. They only gave her glares and lectures about what she did wrong. "He is 12. He doesn't remember much about the incident so I am able to stay around and continue to guard him." Her head was getting heavy with emotion and she leaned on his shoulder hoping that he would comfort her again. She really did not want to talk about it anymore.

When Gwen shifted forms and headed for the couch, Rogue (predictably) followed her. Her fierce look and question made him smile sheepishly, offering up his hands as though asking for peace. "I'm sorry!" Rogue certainly had the "puppy eyes" down. "I've spent so much time as a pup, I forget my boundaries!" He blinked rapidly, trying to look less embarrassed. Rogue had hoped she wouldn't bring that up, and yet it was the first thing out of Gwen's mouth.
He was relieved when the dark-haired woman sat down and started talking about Mitchell. One, it answered his questions, and two, it kept the attention off of his strange actions. Rogue's vaguely childish expression slowly faded, and was replaced by something a bit more sympathetic. Mitchell's story was sad . . . and that meant Gwen's emotional burden was heavy.
The elf met Gwen's gaze steadily as she searched for something in his eyes. Rogue wasn't sure if she found it, but he was surprised when she rested her head against his shoulder.

"I'm sorry," Rogue said quietly. His words were completely honest and caring - and laced with hushed sympathy. His hand immediately stroked the woman's dark hair, and he rested his cheek against her head. His mind raced as he tried to think of something to say. "It isn't your fault." He didn't truly know that, but no guardian would let something happen to their charge without dying first. Gwen must have been completely destroyed when tragedy struck Mitchell's family. They sat there for many moments before he finally spoke.
"I was assigned to Pepper when she was fifteen," Rogue whispered, fingering a bit of Gwen's hair distractedly, "and she's almost twenty now. Nothing has really happened to her. She's gotten a job with the school for teaching the kids." The elf marveled at the softness of Gwen's hair momentarily. It must have had something to do with her cat form. Her fur was soft, too.
"Maybe Pepper will teach Mitchell." He just wanted Gwen to cheer up a bit.

Gwen gave a slight flash of a smile to Rogue. He was a nice boy even though he forgot who and what exactly what he was. When you spend more time being something that you are not and trying to hide your existence as elf in the Human world you will forget your true nature. If you are not with another elf to talk with occasionally you forget what you are and think you are the animal that shift into in the human world. He did however put on a good act for the humans as a dog. Lots of years of practice and being alone must be the reason. Maybe he was just lonely and this made her think about herself and how lonely she feels sometimes with nobody supporting her and her not being a successful guardian. This remind her that she must always be alert and vigilant against others that might attack Mitchell, and look out for herself and all others that she will protect in the future. She looked out the window to make sure that nobody was coming.

"There is no reason to be sorry for me." She said coldly with no tone or emotion. She appreciated his sympathy and concern but in all honesty she just wanted to forget all these past actions and events and focus on the future and enjoying her time with Rogue. Despite how she acted when she first met him, her feelings for him were growing for him and she felt like he was more of a friend. "I know it is not my fault, but I still want to protect Mitchell, since I could not protect his parents." She sighed after saying it. It really was a tragedy to happen at for such a young boy.

She enjoyed her time next Rogue and listened to his story about Pepper. It felt weird that he was playing with her hair as he was talking but she did not mind it. It was good feeling. He really seemed to appreciate Pepper maybe they had a special bond as Mitchell and her have. "It could happen, Do you know what she teaches?" Does He know everything about his human as she knows about Mitchell? Or not, sometimes it is better for a guardian not to get too close to their human so that they do not get hurt if something were to happen, or when they are no longer necessary they can move on to another human.

Whatever it happened to be she hoped that they would get along, and that Pepper did not teach Math to Mitchell since he does not like it at all and never has a good teacher or maybe she could be the one teacher that actually tries to work with him so that he can grasp a better understand of the material. Whatever the interact is Gwen hoped that they got along.

"Pepper really likes to teach History," Rogue said with a thoughtful look. "Though she can't make up her mind. She wants to teach art and writing, too." The blond elf sighed quietly, and then looked incredibly amused. "She can't make up her mind about pretty much anything." Tilting his head a bit, Rogue smiled. "She's always been like that."

He kept silent for a moment, and then looked up at the window. It was still midday - perhaps a half hour after noon. "This is going to sound a bit odd," he said, his golden-brown eyes filling with a playful look, "but have you ever gone to the tide pools after lunch? The kids leave all kinds of stuff there when they leave." That, and the tide pools were amazingly perfect to run around in. The shore near there had the finest sand, and it was softer than any other place on the entire beach.

"I do a lot of running around when Pepper's at school," Rogue said, winking at the girl beside him. "Please tell me you do it too." He didn't know if it was childish, or if a guardian was supposed to keep a constant watch on their target. Pepper was an adult now, so . . . she could take care of herself. It was still the guardian's job to keep her from harm, but it was hard to imagine what could possibly happen to Pepper between the school building and home. They were on the same street.

Gwen smiled as she listened to Rogue talk about his human pepper. He seemed to take good care of her and really wanted to protect her from any danger. She wondered if she was like that with Mitchell because she really did want to protect him from danger that might be lingering around any corner. However she felt he was safe when he was at school so she could relax then.

Gwen looked at Rogue a bit confused. "What do you mean the kids leave stuff there. Aren't you worried they might see you if you go to places where other humans are." She had never really frequented places where humans were for the fact that she had a mission to protect Mitchell from any harm that might find him. The only time she could relax was when he was around other humans generally no evil comes around when there are many humans together. "Do you go to any other places that humans frequent?" She was genuinely curious because she didn't know anything about what other humans did, just what Mitchell's habits were. She did not know if he was strange or normal, all she knew is that he had something that had hurt his parents and she was going to protect him even though these feelings for him might be more concerned then a normal guardian feels but she did not care. She was careless once but never again.

"What do you mean running. When Mitchell is at school its time for me to take naps and sleep, I need to be awake during the night when Mitchell is alone so that nothing happens to him." It must be a dog thing. They always like to run around and keep themselves amused with simple things. "It's probably a dog thing." she smirked how nice it was to be younger and carefree in your free time. He probably had it pretty easy with Pepper and nothing must have tried to hurt her at all. How nice it was to have a easy human that never gets into any trouble.

Rogue laughed at Gwen's expression. He couldn't help it. "You're sorta cute when you're confused." The elf immediately wished he would have kept his mouth shut. Instead of apologizing, he just swiftly moved to the next topic with hardly a breath between them. "I keep myself in animal form around the human places. It's too dangerous to be looking elven around them."
He cleared his throat again, moistening his lips in embarrassment. "I go to a lot of places with humans. It's kind of interesting to see what they talk about. I've learned more about dress sizes and books than I ever did with the elves." Rogue seemed to recover from his earlier slip up easily. "I have been around the beach a lot. And then there's the market in the middle of the village. That's the best place to be."

The male finally pulled away from Gwen, eying the other elf for a moment. "What do I mean by running?" He would have wagged his tail had he had one available at the time. "I mean I run around. Everywhere." His smile grew. "I . . . guess it's a dog thing." With a small chuckle, the blond shook his head. "I have always done it, so . . . I guess it's a dog thing. I'm not really all too sure. It might just be a restless energy thing."
Rogue laughed at the thought that his dog life was really converging on his elven thoughts. Honestly, it was so easy to be a puppy. He'd been one for so long he had to tell himself that he wasn't truly an animal. It took a lot of telling, really. He forgot so often . . . and it was just so much more interesting to run around as a dog.

Standing, the elf moved toward the window. He wasn't careful, but somehow his bravery and nonchalance was alright. No humans would be looking into the house. "We should go to the market. There is a lot to do there." It sounded like Gwen hadn't really been around the people of the village much. It was a shame: they were all very friendly. Or, most of them.

((So sorry i haven't replied in forever! I got swamped with school! and I had written an reply before but accidentally got deleted when i pulled out my internet cord on accident))

Gwen raised her eye when Rogue said that. It confused her and she thought he must be hitting on her in a way. "It is good you stay in human form, you don't want to be caught up in some accidentally and lose your ability to be a guardian and not be allowed to stay in the human world." She looked over and noticed his embarrassment he must be self conscious about all this and taking what she says to heart.

"It is very interesting, I suppose, but it is not our purpose here to learn more about their world. We are suppose to take care of them and guard them from potential danger that they can put themselves in or that can occur naturally." She really had no idea what happens in their lives and didn't know if she should learn more about it.

She however felt like she had been rude by mention that he was acting more like an animal instead of his elf form. "It's nice to have that much energy." She never had much energy to do things that were not necessary. Protect during the night and whenever Mitchell was around, when he is not around she could do things for herself, like sleep or lazy about the beach. Atleast she used to be able to sleep at the beach until Rogue had come around. She didn't know if it was a good thing or a bad thing just a change in her life.

Gwen grabbed Rogue's arm and took him away from the window. "I don't think that is such a good idea." She knew he was not as cautious, but maybe was because he knew the humans and their habits. Maybe he truly had a point to go the market and you can learn more about the humans by doing it, "Actually, never mind, I know you know the human's and their habits so lets do it. I need to know more about them too."

However before she went into her animal form. "Please show me the way!" She then transformed into her cat form.

Esmme 05-09-2012 05:32 PM

He'd felt a bit reprimanded when Gwen mentioned their purpose. Yes, he was supposed to be focused on Pepper's safety. Sadly, it also left him with plenty of spare time while the woman was in school. "It is not our purpose to learn more about their world." She was right. But . . . still. That didn't keep Rogue from learning or wanting to learn.

The tall male shifted uncomfortably, and was completely startled when the woman grasped his arm. "I . . . know what I'm doing," he whispered, not wanting to offend his new friend, yet wishing to say that he wasn't as foolish as he appeared to be. It was a difficult task - for he wasn't the most cautious individual ever.

As Gwen gave in, finally asking the way, Rogue gave her a wolfish grin. "This way!" He changed to his pup form, shaking himself thoroughly before trotting to the door. He wouldn't run, for Gwen's sake. With a tiny bark, the canine headed down the porch steps and toward the middle of town. It wasn't far - but it was busy. If one wanted to learn about the public habits of humans, that was the place to do it.

Rogue's golden brown eyes flit over the various vendors. There were clothing stalls, scrimshaw vendors, trinket mongers, shoe hoarders, artists' shops, and toy makers everywhere. The market life was a busy one. With a happy smile, Rogue let his tongue loll out to the side as they approached the best part of the entire market area: the food court.
Smells of meats, breads, sweets, frying food, and various spices filled the air. It was heaven. And Rogue seemed to have the stomach of a bear. He loved this area. The meat vendor had a soft spot for the tiny pup, and would usually share some scraps. That was exactly where Rogue headed.

Upon arrival, Rogue sent a fiendish grin back to Gwen before putting on the best (and I'm not kidding) puppy face imaginable. With a heart-wrenching little while, he caught the meat seller's attention. The heft man said a few things that people would usually say to an adorable little animal before tossing a few strips of meat in his direction. Rogue scarfed one piece of cold meat down, barely managing to stop himself from eating the second piece. He nudged it his nose, pushing it toward Gwen.

Judging by the almost-whine he was making, and the light trembling of the pup, Rogue was straining his limits. Self-control wasn't always his strong point.
